Here's the list of players who are signed up in this tournament so far, a perfect field of 16. However, the tournament is hoping to get 32 signed-up players.

This is an interesting potpourri of pool talent, and I have made some remarks by each name. Who do you think will shine the brightest? The cream always rises to the top, as they say! Here's my Tout Sheet :p

2005 U.S. Open Champion Gabe OwenMulti-talented on a variety of equipment and can play all games.
Shane "South Dakota Kid" Van BoeningShown strength in recent times and has experience on bar box, usually comes out of the gate blazing.
2006 BCA Open Champion Dennis OcolloHigh percentage track record to make the semi-finals and finals of any event he enters.
BCA Hall of Famer Buddy HallWouldn't be in this event if he didn't think he could win, The Rifleman is a bar table machine and has executable gears.
Action Man James WaldenAlways a formidable opponent in any tournament he sets foot in.

Tony "T-Rex" ChohanYoung gun with a lot of heart and is comfortable playing all games.
Legendary Texan C.J. WileyThough no recent stats to go by, this is the dark horse to watch.
Shannon "The Cannon" DaultonBreaks like a cannon and loves bar tables.
Bar Box Champ David MatlockHow can you not like Matlock in this event? Definitely a favorite.
Young Gun Jamie BarracksWill he be able to keep up with the big guns? His strong killer instinct may carry him through.
Ronnie "Everything's Funny When Your'e Winning Big Money" WisemanNever underestimate this veteran, an old-school player who will be pulling out every shot in his arsenal.
Rob "Rob'n Hood' SaezQuiet and unassuming kind of guy until he steps up to the plate and will be looking to take no prisoners.
Minnesota Legend Jimmy WetchVeteran who can play and looks good when he's doing it, always dressed to the nines.
Roadster Scotty TownsendOne of my favorite bar table players of all time, and he can get there.
"Marvelous Marlon" ManaloA threat in any tournament he steps foot in and he's a Filipino to boot, seems to always excel in the bigger payout tournaments.

Well, there you have mine. So far, this is a $48,000 total purse, and it will still be growing as the tournament draws near. What say you? Any favorites?

That is quite a mix of some of pools brightest shining stars. Hopefully they can fill a 32 man field for a $96,000 prize pool! That could turn into quite a lucrative payday for one lucky shooter. Hopefully we will see more events like this with high stakes and high rewards, I really think this could grow into something bigger (qualifiers;) ) and even better.

It's not easy to pick anyone to win this event but I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with my dough on Manalo, not that I would bet on such a wide open field in the first place!

Good pick on Manalo. He's a favorite in any tournament he steps foot in for sure! :)

The one thing that I like about this event, which is somewhat unique I guess you could say, is that this is a truly OPEN competition, one which is not restricted to players who are listed on a so-called "ranking system" as well as it being open to players of all caliber.

There are MANY pool greats who don't compete on the tournament trail and can give some of the so-called "ranked players" a great deal of weight.

So, in essence, one pool room owner in Olathe decided to make things happen. He built it, and they are a coming. :p

And to hell with ESPN, we've got TheActionReport.com giving us all the juicy details. It doesn't get any better than this!

I don't know how he's playing these days, but 15 years ago I would have liked Scotty's action there. Now, I would think it's a toss up between Dennis, Matlock, Manalo and SVB.
 
Who needs ESPN anyways JAM, they have to have the worst quality of pool coverage out there:o You might as well watch their pool matches on a black and white TV.

I have to agree with you, Sniper. You know, this inaugural live update being provided by TheActionReport.com staff -- FREE OF CHARGE, by the way -- may be fulfilling a niche in this pool world. The wheels are in motion, and I think we are all going to enjoy a very good ride watching this Olathe event unfold! :)

Let me tell ya', Buddy's got an excellent chance to win this. He's a bar player from way back and has multiple GEARS, something that can only be developed from years of experience on bar tables, at least that's what I heard from a good source! ;)

Well ...

A lot to do with it starting out will be the draw since there will be 4 players to a table with only the winner moving on. I would gues that there will be 2 tables (if filled) that won't be particularly strong, and a couple more than might be really really strong.

Some players could get bumped out just because they landed on a really strong field starting out.

Matlock is a wizard at ring games, and they are playing on his tables.
(Saw him one time run 9 10 ball racks on a 9 footer with 7 guys in).

I think you have to watch for Shannon Daulton, who always seems to bring that killer instinct with him in situations like this. Will be interesting to see Walden and Daulton on a playing field since they have never matched up, but James told me that once in Kentucky his backer put him up against Daulton, and Daulton's backer wouldn't put Shannon up.

Interesting mix, to be sure, but I don't think Buddy will get there, and the last 4 or 5 on the list won't get there either except for Manalo.

I think Jamie Baraks could surprise a few players.

Kicking in this event could become a make or break deal for some players.
 
I had heard -- and I'm not sure how to explain it right -- that after each round, they will throw all the names in a hat and start over again by picking new categories of players. I mean, if you don't make it past the first round, then you're screwed. However, let's say you do get in a tough group, if you survive, the next round will be new and different competitors.

Very good pick! I gotta tell you, I'd be hard-pressed to put lines on these players in Olathe. This is a tough one to call for sure! This is what separates the lions from the lambs, and the best man will win! :)

It states

on the Action Report website that they will 'group 4 players to a table'.

Is this by random draw or will there be seedings to start out?

I am glad to see Gabe in this. He has been laying low lately for tournaments.

the draw will be a random draw! it shoild be a fun ride! the players list that we posted is all the players that have expressed intrest in the tournament!!!!
its hard to get people to put up 3k 3 weeks ahead of an event! i talked to dan last night he said they are getting more calls from players and stakehorses asking if certain players are in and how to get in touch with them! dan told me last night that the entries are starting to come in now! he thinks that if some of these pros wait to long they might not make the field becouse off all the lesser known players interest! get it in boys you dont want to miss this one! :D
 
Where's WU ?

Well, current U.S.Open winner John Schmidt went through a field of over 100 players UNDEFEATED at Breakers Billiards in Mobile Ala. on the barbox tables. Five (or maybe 6) of the 16 players listed above by JAM played in that event also.

Man, this is a strong field! How can you pick a favorite here? Tell you what, Buddy is the "dog" here. I wish I was there for this one. Someone will have to play great (maybe a few someones) to take this one off. This may be the Bar Table slug-out of the year, or the decade!
