I saw all the Americans except Sky. Corey is there -- with a beard! Why are men growing beards these days? Everywhere you go, I see men with long beards in my neck of the woods. Even the basketball players. I guess it's the style.

And the last US player Corey is out, Kazakis won against Corey 8:5 in the last 16..

As for US team the only one US player left in the tournament is Corey now in last 16 single elimination. Oscar lost 5:8 to Kazakis, Dennis 1:8 to Kaci, Billy 4:8 also to Kaci and Shane 5:8 to Szewczyk. From these euro opponents only Szewczyk has a slim chance to make it into Euro team for Mosconi Cup (basically he has to win US Open to make the team), others are 2nd-3rd tier pros in Europe. I think Johann Ruijsink basically expected such outcome (maybe Corey can make it further though), he wanted his players to see the reality how tough and deep talent in Europe is atm to motivate them to work harder and on the right things. Like Einstein said: "Failure is the success in progress." - I believe Kremlin Cup is/was the needed piece of the puzzle for US team play the best pool in December at MC. I am really looking forward to it! ;)

That's a good strategy, if the players are 17 and they're going to be playing in the Mosconi Cup in 10 years. These guys are not going to see how tough the competition is and get better in 10 weeks.

IDK, but I scanned that match in the link and it looked like Shane wasn't playing at his normal high level.

The Russians seem to focus LONGER on the object ball than do the Americans. Or is that my imagination?

To add a little perspective, here are the top 32 players at the event (out of 101) by Fargo Rating. Having 4 of 5 US players make the final 32 and 1 make the final 16 is roughly what is to be expected.

I watched some of the matches on YouTube. From what I saw of Shane he looked like he was at the Mosconi Cup. Uncharacteristically missing. On the other hand Kazakis break is spectacular and his game is right up there. Should be quite a final match.
USA team needs to up there game and hopefully that is what they'll do.
