Trouble with Kamui tips?

I was about to order a few medium Kamui Blacks. A friend told me he was using one on a Predator and had a lot of trouble with miscues and keeping chalk on the tip. I asked him to bring it the next time we played so that I could see what he was talking about. I hit a few balls with it and it felt fine, but when you wipe the chalk off of the tip, it appeared to be polished. He said he would scuff the tip more than he had to do with others, but couldn't keep it from being too slick.

Anyone else have issues?

You just need to use there $25 chalk:D

I just put on a BLACK Soft..
It feels like an Everest Med .
I have only played once with it ...Let you know later...

Used a 314-2 with a kamui medium on it for about a week. Sold it to a buddy. I'll ask if he is having a prob like that. I have noticed this happens with mooris.

I had an issue with the Kamui black soft where it glazed over.
I did not happen for the first couple of months of play and then I had one miscue.
Then I have like 3 more miscues in a week.
Got so irriated that I pulled it off and I now have the regular or tan medium.

For what it is worth I think it was a mental thing for me and really not the tips fault. But I got to the point in my head that I could not trust the tip anymore.

Well that is my $.02

No trouble with my two Kamui Tan Mediums. I even left one of them high instead of cutting them down like I normally do. I played the whole weekend without a miscue and use the 11.75 ferrule/tip from OB cues.

The Blue Diamond chalk that I was using seemed to adhere pretty good to the Kamui tips.

Maybe if I had some Kamui chalk, I might have won some more matches. ;-)

Buy 2 times the amount-

Don't even think twice- I have seen or installed thousands since 2005 and the tips have change some- offering more options. They are the best tips in the world bar none. and Kamui doesn't pay me a thing!!!!! If I counted the shafts with Kamui tips (different softness- over 25 shafts.

Hmmmm

I had the same issues. Glaze over way too much. Now i use the old Moori's and problem solved.

Exactly what he said !!! Too many miscues, the tip seems very slick without chalk on it. Hitting low draw killed me.....never had a problem with a Moori or any other tip I used in past.

Maybe I got a bad one, but I never got a bad Moori. I gave Kamui a shot, but can't stay with them based on the performance of my tip.

Kamui SS - Flattened and mushroomed after every couple of games. Tip was done in a month. Played very nice so worth it if you want to install a new tip every month.

Kamui MS - Started out ok. After a couple of games, I reshaped. Stayed that way for a while but now it does what it feels like. Always fussing with it. It will last a bit longer but not as long as a person should expect for a tip of this quality and expense.

I don't shoot hard so that is not an issue.
I have one Kamui Med left and I will give that a whirl. I suspect that will perform better altho I do like the action I get with the MS somewhat.
I mean, its ok but nothing that will blow your hair back and make your eyebrows stand out straight.

So far, I stock several other brands that I would recommend to players before these two. Talisman soft, Wizard, Moori, Everest and Sniper.

I used to switch out tips quite regularly so I could give honest feed back to my customers so I know these tips will perform.

I am planning on trying a Kamui Black MS and pretty sure this will be the third time charm. If it isn't, I'm done with them, period.

I'll give you guys a heads up. There is a tip available on EBay. Its called a California, sold by Delta Sports.
They are a medium. 5 layers. They are well made but if you put one up beside a Talisman or a Moori, you can tell a huge difference.
They will out play and outlast the 2 Kamui tips that I have tried by a country mile.
The kicker is, they cost less than one dollar a piece when 10 are purchased.

I am sending one off to a fellow in California tomorrow so hopefully he will have it installed and be able to give a second opinion on it in time. I know there are a couple of other cue peairman on AZ that will also attest to these tips.

I have a old black soft on one shaft that doesn't has have any of the problems you describe. I just recently scuffed it after a few months of use. I also have a newer version black medium on another shaft that is holding up just fine. Although I've never let the surface be used for more than a couple weeks because I'm slowly working down the height of it to what I want. I'm sure if you talk to the kamui tip rep on these boards he'll be happy to resolve your issue.

If the tips are glazing over. Why can't they be scuffed and/or re-shaped?
I am checking my tip's radius prior to every session, and if needed, they get re-shaped and the sides burnished.

I have never miscued with a Kamui tip and use Masters' chalk.

Every session?

I'm not willing to fool with a tip that much. I've been using the same Moori medium for over a year and I almost never fool with it. I suppose that's why it lasts so long.

I guess I'll be staying with Moori mediums. Thanks for the feedback.

Kamui Black Hard

I have used these tips for over a year with no problems at all. I have one on my Tascarella playing cue since last March and it hasn't glazed over, changed shape, or caused miscues. Again, I rarely hit with both high speed and extreme english (14.1 and 8-Ball) but my experience is that these are some of the best tips ever made, and I have used the Mooris and Kamui reg extensively.

IMO, most miscues are stroke-related, not caused by tip properties.

Here's a big cause of the glazing problems with Master chalk, FAKE MASTER CHALK.
I bought a box on Ebay. ALL FRKN fake . They have no porousity.

Over time, any tip will eventually get glazed over, smoothed surface.

That comes from the inconsistencies of bad chalk. To fix this problem is to scuff this surface.

We realized this problem 2 years ago and looked at the tools used to maintain tips. The tools out there were too aggressive on the Kamui leather and we decided to make our own tool to solve this glazed problem.

The Kamui Gator Grip... Please watch this video.

What are Kamuis made from, pig hide?
So are many other tips. So what makes Kamui tips more sensitive than others?

So let me guess, in order for the Kamui tip to work at its optimum performance, we have to invest in Kamui chalk and a Kamui scuffer.
Whats the scuffer equivalent to, 1500, 2000 grit sandpaper?

Players have been using the same chalk and tip tools for years without a hitch.

Is this your answer to a legitimate question regarding the glazing over of your tips? Basically, regular chalk and tips tools suck?

When i first put on the ss black it was by far the best tip iv used. I never had prblems with misscues until now and i believe its because its wore down so much. but im pretty sure 75% of it is opperator error... for the record i am going back with the same tip;)
