True Confessions

Hiya, Playboy. I got the head's up from another member here on AZB by the name of Banks... the tourney is at Wichita Pub in Milwaukie... I believe it's on Kings Road. Be there by 7pm, play begins at 7:30. It's a $5 buy in that the house doubles. I understand that they have 8 tables. The game is 8 ball Wednesday nights and 9 ball Tuesday nights. That's really all I know. I've never been there myself, so I'm going in cold, never played in a tournament before... no idea what to expect. I'll be the girl swimming for her life in the shark tank, clutching the hot pink pool cue for all she's worth.

Hey Atomic.

The tourney is at Wichita on King Rd. @ 7:30. They play on Diamonds over there now. It has a decent amount of talent in it usually (at least they did the few times I went). And, yeah, I think that they match the $5 entry. I may go just to see if I can stir up some trouble. :D

Ok, so it only takes me like 15 minutes to post a short message apparently!

I'm feeling kinda bad about myself after reading this.
I've owned my Olhausen table for about 3 years, never vacuumed it, only brushed it every, say 2~3 months, only covered the table when I went on vocation trips.... I think my table will hate me if it could read this post...

Okay, I have not been playing pool for very long. I first picked up a cue on May 1st of 2009. One week later I purchased my first cue... a McDermott MG14. Five weeks after that I purchased an 8x4 Goldenwest pool table and converted my living room into a billiards room (I got tired of hanging out in bars every night.)

So, here's my confession... for the first year I was so good about taking care of that table. I brushed it at the end of every day, and covered it too. Every other week I vacuumed the table, wiped it down with a damp cloth and polished the Aramith Super Pro balls. In the past 6 or 7 months I've gotten kind of lazy. I brush the table every couple of weeks; I never cover it anymore, and I vacuum the table and polish the balls when I notice that they're getting grubby. I play the table every single day for at least 2 or 3 hours. So, there's a question that goes with this confession... What are the consequences of neglecting a table in this way? I expect to need to replace the cloth sometime soon... as much as I play the table, I'm surprised that the cloth is still in as good of shape as it is. The balls are holding up fine. And the table seems to play just fine for my purposes... helping me to get my chops up to speed to hold my own in league.

I'd love to hear some perspective on the error of my ways.

Thank you all.
Katie

Katie Girl is a cute name for the board, and if you are looking for a sucker, but when you start fishing in shark infested waters, you need a back up name, how about Katie the Killer (last name) or Hell On Heels (last name).

Actually, Irock, my cue case says "Puppy Girl" on it... and it's bright pink too... it can't be help.

Everyone has something that defines them, and for you Katie Girl, if it is Pink, then Pink it is. Look out pool world.

Pink panties, pink bra, heels, pink stick and my pink table, huh KingCobra? Funny you should say... (true story) I happen to be wearing pink panties and bra today... and heels.. under my short brown dress... promise me that you won't hold your breath for those pictures though.:p

That's Okay sweetheart, I already have a pretty good picture;):D

Glen - You do realize this is the internet right! The sad reality is that Katie Girl could weigh 400lbs and have a mole the size of Dallas/Ft. WOrth on her nose...

Chris

Yeah...but, understand...I live in a TRUCK...on the road:D

I know a LOT of pro players, and don't know ANY that replace their tip "weekly". Who are they?

Mark Jarvis may not be your typical pro, but at the 2005 us open, he ran out of the room after every match and had Joe Blackburn change his tip. I've known him for over 30 years and this isn't the most foolish thing he has done.;)

Dallas Ft Worth, Chris? Really? It's hardly bigger than Waco.

I played my first non-league tournament tonight. I did awesome! I really surprised the heck out of myself and everyone else. I believe that 14 people entered the tourney, and I tied for 5th place. I was told that the top 4 players got cash prizes... so I was a single win from being in the money.

My first match (8 ball race to 2) I was nervous, tense, hitting the cue ball way too hard. And my opponent was an awesome pool player. He ripped me a new one. The next 2 matches I won 2 to 0 and 2 to 1 against very strong players with a lot of experience over me. My fourth and final match I lost 0 to 2 against a very good player... but I played awesome pool, only narrowly missing the win in both games of that race by choking on my final ball at the end of good long runs.

I think I have the competition bug now. I'm ready for the next one. What a great group of guys I played with tonight! Life does not get any better.

(Thanks, Banks, for coming out and playing tonight. It was fun to visit and hang out. Tell KingCobra all about my mole. Hugs!)

OK Banks, where are the pictures?

;)

It sounds as if you did exceptionally well at your first tournament, congrats! Most people are so overwhelmed by just keeping track of who they are playing and when they are up that the first try at a tournament is a mess. And being a mostly league player (which I am guessing), shooting for instant money might of also put extra pressure on you.

Even though it was a small local tournament, you still did very well for your "virgin experience." You will only get better at it over time, keep practicing and exposing yourself to new ventures.

P.S. Notice how I mentioned "virgin experience" and also "exposing yourself" in the same paragraph ... yet somehow kept it relatively clean?

your table doesn't have to read this post ~ it already knows . . . . . :sorry:

but don't worry - that pile of dirty laundry you have stacked on there will protect it . . . .
