Trying to get even for being hustled

Funny how hustling someone tries to comeback and bite you in the a$$. My central air went out last night at around 7pm. I went out and pulled a cover off the outside unit. I found the motor capacitor to be bad. Problem was all the parts places were closed at that hour.

My wife saw me outside and started screaming at me to call an A/C repair guy to fix it. “What do you want to do, have another heart attack?” she asked.
Anyway I call a a/c repair company up to shut her up. I figure it can’t cost me more the $150 for the guy to replace the capacitor. The guy comes. He was someone I hustled for a few $100 over 10 years ago at a bar in Tampa. I make believe I don’t recognize him and he made believe he didn‘t remember me, but I saw his eyes get real wide when let him in the house.. He checks around for a few minutes and tells me I need a new motor, a capacitor, Freon, and a coil cleaning to the tune of $900+. I calmly asked him to write out the estimate and I would show it to my wife in her home office to talk it over real quick.

I called his company from her office and told them I was a retired A/C man (a lie) and knew it only needed a capacitor and that his company would be on channel 10 tonight for trying to rip-off the elderly. Long story shorter, the owner said he would fix it free of charge with no service charge. I told him to call his man and tell him to get the hell out of my house…which he did fast.

I went down to the parts place, bought a new capacitor for $11.02 with tax and put it in in 10 minutes. Cools like a dream. I hate a poor sports. Johnnyt

Johnny a man after my own heart, I love it. I absolutely cannot understand anyone paying full price for anything, I piss the wife off because I even ask for a discount in Walmart! I got $50 off a small flat screen TV just by asking, what can they say, only Yes or No, right?

Thats gotta feel real good knowing that it was only a small part & you could do it yourself & save your $$$ for something else that comes along.
The best part would be seeing that repairman beat his feet after his boss called him on the phone. That would have been priceless to see that. Way to go Johnny.

Well played, Johnny.
Once again, age and treachery triumph over youth and inexperience.

What a great story. Man Johnnt not only can you kick butt you keep-em in your book. Wow

That's why I don't play money games against people that are helpless on the pool table, the risk that they might try to take their money back from me off the pool table isn't worth anything I could possibly earn from them.

Thanks for the advice Mommy. Who said he was helpless? He just wasn't good enough. Johnnyt

So it's ok to hijack that guy but not ok for him to take a shot at you?

You can't blame him for that, sheesh. You should be giggling about it instead of calling his boss up.

Yeah, I'm always the bad guy. Johnnyt

If the roll was reversed and someone hustled you and you were called to that guy's house, you'd give him an $11 fix-it quote? Of course not. That's all I'm saying. What that guy did was totally within fair-play. That said, you out-moved the "move" and for that you deserve an atta-boy.

Shit, if you ran into that guy at a restaurant, he'd probably rub his nuts on your burger back in the kitchen. So all in all, at least you ran into him in your environment with something you can control....right? :)

If he were smart, he would have asked... "if you're a retired A/C man, and know the problem, DO IT YOURSELF! Why you callin' us to begin with?"

Instead of callin' his boss, you should have played him a little on your table and beat him out of the $900.

Just goes to show ya......

Never try to con a conman, especially one who's better than you are.
