Turning Stone Classic XXXVI

Interesting controversy in the Gorst-morra match regarding the score. Apparently fedor forgot to mark a game early in the match and in reality ended up having to win 10 games to win the match
When you play TS the beads are up high above lights on the side away from the players. When you sit there, you can't even see your score. Very easy to forget...especially if you usually mark games just before breaking.

I mark as soon as I win...cuz I'll forget what day it is.

It’s Yednak. He can’t keep his mouth shut. He tries to anticipate every shot yet he’s never in the money when he plays. He’s in the booth every time they play at Turningstone. Just tiresome. Has to prove how smart he is. He’s not the only one. Just the most obnoxious. Where does Al find these yahoos? Great pool deserves better.

preferences, obviously. i thought del sim and yednak were ok

We spent the day there yesterday. Bought a cue case for my girl and she asked Jason Shaw to sign it for her. Thanks Jason.
Lots of really good pool happening, and I was impressed with Dylan Spohr, he lost to Oi and finished in the 12-16 group. I hope he continues playing these points events.

It looks like Shaw is about to dispatch Gorst for the second time. Down to just three--Shaw vs. Sossei for the right to play Skyler for the title.

The best I've ever seen Sky play for such a prolonged period. Hope he can finish it off, but even if he doesn't -- his game my have permanently jumped a notch.

Dumb and Dumber...

Just what everyone wants to see, the back of players' heads as they examine the rack.

3-0 Sky breaking in the fourth rack. He comes up dry. Jayson is up and rolling along!

3 -1 Sky ahead and Jayson breaking.

Jayson runs out two racks like, Cool Hand Luke, and it is tied at 3-3…

Don’t blink. Jayson gets out 4-3 Shaw!

After a safety battle Sky gets er done. Tied again 4-4….

Someone call the police! These guys are making it look so easy it’s gotta be illegal!
Jayson wins another after Sky scratched on the break. 5-4 Jayson….

I musta missed one or two on my way for a beer. Now it is Jayson 7 - 4.. Looking real strong!

The unlucky shot of the match so far goes to Sky. In rack twelve he kicks out of a tough spot and combos the nine in,,,,, and scratches… Yikes. Jayson gets out 8-4 Shaw.

After winning another game Shaw makes a mistake and Sky gets another game . 9 - 5 Shaw, Sky breaking!

These guys are slugging it out and playing solid pool. Sky gets another it is 9 - 6 Sky coming back…

Jayson shooting the lights out, up now 11-6…

What kind of tip does Jsyson use , what kind of socks does he wear??? Holy hell what did he eat for breakfast?? Jayson on the hill!!!!

Sky is not done yet! He gets a couple back and it is 12-8 Sky breaking.

Sky musta missed the memo on Shaw being on the hill. He is running out like a theif. It’s now 12-10 with Sky still at the table breaking!!!

Yes sir Sky is playing pool!!! 12 -11 Sky breaking !!!!!!

Sky is on THE HILL!!!! Hill Hill with Sky breaking!!!!!

Puttin the fone down….

Sky missed a six ball and Shaw finishes it off!!! Heart breaker for Sky but a tremendous final by both men…WOW !!!!

The thing that sits with me the most is Zuglan’s rant at the players meeting.

He said he was never approached regarding TS being a ranking event for MR. He made it abundantly clear he’s not affiliated with what MR is doing. He mocked the MC as being only $30k for the winners and how players could spend that just to try to be on it, just for what, to want to be on TV.

He rebukes the sentiment it would make his tournament any better, citing how over half the field for this event filled up on site at the last event and then sold out within 3 days.

He said he’d change his racking rules only if everyone else did. Then he spread a rumor that Matchroom was going back to one on the spot just for the purposes of insinuating that it’s pointless for him to change because they’re already flip-flopping. That left a dishonest taste in my mouth.

I don’t see Zuglan ever falling in line with “Nineball.” I know the event does have a strong history and tradition to it. But honestly it feels to me that it’s a regional amateur event that gets robbed by a handful or pros more than it feels like a bonafide pro event. The field leaves a bit to be desired. I really am questioning whether it should be or will continue to be a MR ranking event. Something feels incongruous to me.

Yes, especially because this is the only event in America that runs on schedule year after year after year. Mike's the best tournament director in the Northeast US and is in the discussion for the best tournament director in America.

There's a reason that the Joss Tour has been around for about 25 years and there are usually dozens on the wait list to get in.
Midwest Bar Table runs on time every time.

Another B&R for Sky to make it 12-11. The balls are breaking great for him during this run. If he keeps his focus he's got a chance.
