Turning Stone no longer a ranking event.

In reference to a college degree, something like 1 in 4 strippers are college graduates... Is it just me, or does that not make them even more awesome?

This is interesting: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/295688

I saw a game show where a Harvard grad couldn't name 2 States on the East Coast that border the Ocean. College aint what it used to be. I'm pretty sure her second guess was Nevada. If it wasn't, it was equally as dumb.

That's easy, New York and Boston!

I respect what top players are trying to do but you do have to realize that Zulgan has giving them EVERYTHING from day one.

Runout can't agree with you on this one. The "pro's" are not very well informed or good business people. What is the strength of their position? Give us what we demand, or... we won't come? Pretty weak. Do you know what the #1 reason for being in business is? The only reason? To make money! So, when the question is asked, "Can I make money without Archer, Morris and "the pro's"? The answer is a resounding YES! The Turning Stone event did it in the past. It has a track record of making money without "the pros". Therefor the "pro's" position has no impact or standing.

Sadly, this is not the time to be pulling this crap. The game is almost dead here in the northeast. I understand some parts of the country are doing ok, but where I am it is dead. Plus there is a huge economic upheaval going on. Ultimately this could work for pool and bring it back. But for now, the idea of someone crying "Gimme!" is falling on very resentful ears.

Bob

What are you not agreeing with again???

You been hanging around Barry too much. One of his press releases a few years ago said "players are coming from such countries as Russia, London, Mexico, Britain..... etc.

I thought it particularly funny that the Harvard grad didnt come up with Massachusetts.

ABP information

poolmag web site posted the following from the ABP. Speaks to some of the questions that were raised earlier in the thread

The Association of Billiard Professionals board of directors has released the organization's mission statement:

"To continually improve the sport of pocket billiards as measured by the Fans, Tournament Promoters, Sponsors and Players. We will accomplish our goals through a relentless commitment to open and clear two way communications, by constantly searching for opportunities for cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships and by making fact based decisions using industry input and research. Always, with the good of our sport and it's constituents being foremost in our thoughts and actions."

"To the fans, the ABP's goal will be "to consistently provide a top quality sporting experience delivered by professional players and promoters and to expand the opportunities to follow professional pocket billiards via the internet and television as well as live events."

"To our Tournament Promoters and Sponsors, our goal is to maximize your return on your investment in tournament and event production. We will achieve this by providing the full cooperation of the touring professionals. We will help maximize interest and attendance through advance communication and planning, demonstrating the highest level of professional behavior at all times and providing access to billiard professionals for promotional opportunities."

"To our Players, our goal is to provide a platform, similar to other professional sports, where touring professionals can pursue the sport they love as a full time career and achieve reasonable financial success. By doing so we hope to increase the number of billiard professionals, tournament events, and sponsorships thus providing incentive for the growth of our sport. We will achieve this by supporting our Tournament Promoters and Sponsors while providing exciting and engaging performances for the Fans. We will achieve this by cooperation and partnership with all Players and Tournament Promoters so that we may develop a consistently fair, equitable and reliable system of play and rewards."

Thanks for sharing that. They have 12 board members. I wonder if there are any members aside from board members? Just curious.

Somebody should advise the ABP that they need a proofreader for their communication documents. There are some punctuation blunders in that statement. I mean, I read it and knew what it meant, but if they want to be a professional organization, their statements should be presented in that manner as well.

It's probably the racket I'm in, but sometimes typos and mistakes, wrong word usage, just stick out like a sore thumb to my eye. :o

And, no, I'm not asking for the job. LOL

I knew you were joking so was I (except about Barry's PR). Im no genius but i didnt think i appeared that dumb.

I personally believe the players are at least trying to do the right thing. IMHO unless someone gets hold of it and shakes it up big time, the sport is doomed to be, at best medicore and stay where it is and at worst to continue it's downward spiral. With so many tours, associations etc it's simply too fragmented for any sane person to contemplate putting good money into.

Any sport or business for that matter must have a product or brand to get sponsors on board and retain them. Those sponsors cannot come sloely from within the game either, that is a recipe for disaster. It's not a bad time for them to set this up, at least they have time to get it up and running, so that when the economy does turn around they have something to pitch to potential promoters and sponsors.

Their Board though cannot simply contain players, it must contain more than that. What the players see as important is obviously just that, important to the players. They need people from the Business world and also at least one representative from the poeple who support the sport, the fans. The needs of all three groups are completely different, but the goals are the same, the betterment of our sport, more money in the sport, I could go on but it would be very boring listing them all here. Only with all these in place though can anyone hope to make any sort of significant impact.

If JA, RM or any of the others wants a fan rep on the board they only have to ask!
