National Championship Series Announced by CueSports International, LLC

CueSports International, LLC (CSI), the parent company of the BCA Pool League (www.playbca.com), the United States Bar Table Championships (USBTC) and the Jay Swanson Memorial Tournament, would like to announce the National Championship Series (NCS). The NCS will be a series of five national events in the following cue sport disciplines: 8-Ball, 9-Ball, 10-Ball, 14.1Continuous and One Pocket.

The first NCS event will be the 8-Ball Division. For players to participate in the 8-Ball Division they must be either a U.S. resident or possess a U.S. passport. The winner will receive all paid expenses to the prestigious World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) 2009 World 8-Ball Championship. Last year?s world event was held in Fujairah, UAE. The 2009 event is anticipated to be held in mid-April.

The following information applies to all five NCS events. Qualifier tournaments will be held at billiard rooms throughout the United States. All NCS events will be open to men and women - both amateurs and professionals. Players are not required to be a member of any national league or association. In the initial years of the NCS, everyone must qualify - there will not be any invited players.

Mark Griffin, CEO of CSI expressed the need for a more formalized national championship system, ?The U.S. is one of the few countries that does not conduct national championships. CSI saw the possibility of creating opportunities for pool players while offering national exposure for the billiards industry. This structure will determine for the first time a true national champion in all five disciplines.?

More information will be released in the next few weeks.

Room owners with any questions, interest in hosting a qualifier in your state or region, or in hosting the national event, please contact Holly Ryan at holly@cuesportsintl.com or at 702-719-7665.

CueSports International, LLC, goal is to create and improve opportunities for pool players of all abilities through fair governance and equitable policies.

Your right. i know. It just seems for some reason these things never work out. doesnt matter who is running them. the ipt was just an example. theres at least 10 others out there that have failed as well. I hope it works though

Youll have to pardon me if im cynical. thats just me.

The IPT never sounded good. KT is a con man. Mark Griffin has a proven track record and a great reputation and lets not forget he owns a GREAT Pool League. All I wanna know is if this means that TAR is gonna be covering these great events.

Pretty good odds of TAR

TAR covering the NCS sounds like a win-win deal! I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

when there is something bad happening in the pool world it stays on the front page for days but when there is something good happening it gets stuck at the back of the pack. What's up with that?

This is a great thing. I've been hearing bits and pieces of this idea for a while now. I'm very excited to see it all finally come together.

I agree 100%.

Structure is a big part in moving the game forward IMO and this is a great step in the right direction. I can't wait to be there streaming the first US Championships.

NCS (National Championship Series)

CSI will have several press releases over the next few weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Holly@cuesportsintl.com or call 702-791-7665. Input is encouraged.

The NCS (National Championship Series) is a method to establish 5 National champions in 5 different games. The US has never had true National Champions. Each state will be offered at least one qualifier-with a total of 64qualifers to be scheduled. We hope to help establish several State Championships through these efforts. These events will be help in pool rooms throughout the US.

The first event is 8-Ball. The regional qualifier winners will receive $500 entry to Nationals. The National winner of the 8-Ball will be allowed to represent the US at the WPA world's 8-ball event. The winner will receive an ALL EXPENSES trip - including air fare, hotel, and food. The remaining money will be paid to other high finishers - or to help fund more US players to other World events.

These are all low entry (under $100) events. These events are about 'titles and recognition'-not prize funds. They will look good on a player's resume. The pool rooms, players and the events will get substantial exposure. This becomes a win-win for everyone involved.

CSI will provide current info on the upcoming events and eventual winners of all qualifiers. Hopefully everyone can help support this concept. The original press release can be viewed here: http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.php?storynum=5638.

Is it your intentions for this to evolve into an actual pro tour? I was under the impression that that was the idea from the start. I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of the top pro's are more interested in prize funds rather than titles and recognition. I am assuming that this is just the beginning and this tour will continue to evolve if it's successful, and of course, I wish you all the success possible.

Shouldn't a 'Nationl Championship' only be open to citizens of the country? Having a passport allows pros from any country to win 'our' national championship. Shouldn't that be called a 'world' championship?

I believe she said a US passport. They don't just give 'em out at the border...

NCS is not a pro tour

Roy-

The NCS is NOT going to evolve into a pro tour. They are two different things. NCS (National Championship Series) is only supposed to create a method of determning who the National Champ is.

We are still in process of trying to put the pro tour together. The biggest probem with the Pro side is finding venues. Thought I had a couple but it did not work out.

We are starting several USA Pool Leagues which will help fund the pro tour. So that is progresssing as it should. We ar not trying to rush into the USAPL thing because there is still a lot of paperwork that has to worked through.

The systems are all functioning fine - but there is a lot to starting a new league and we would rather go a little slower and keep everything trouble free.

Thanks for your interest.

NCS - National Championship Series

Neil,

You are basically right about being US. But you are wrong about calling anything 'world championship', unless that is what it really is. We support the basic WPA concept and would like see to 'real' world champions.

The WPA is trying to set standards because they have conflict at times. Example is Jose Parica - would he play for the US or the PHillipines??

I believe the WPA basically says if your home country allows you to play, then you can not play for your 'adopted' country (or something like that. I am NOT trying to talk for the WPA).

This is to create a US National Champion. So in the 4 disciplines (8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, 14.1) we will try to comply with WPA standards to try and get our champions the ability to represent the US in the future world events. One Pocket is different because it is not recognized by WPA. So we could let anyone play.

I appreciate the comments and questions. We may not know the answers-but we will try. I think this is a huge step in the right direction. Hope everyone support the idea.

If you are a room owner and is interested in having a qualifier, please contact Holly@cuesportsintl.com or call 702-7197-665.
