U.S Open 10-ball

Why is it so hard to update the bracket within 10 minutes of a match being over ? No one can seem to do it at any tournament. even though years ago a company ran a tournament and the scores were kept by the players on a laptop and that updated the scores online instantly. A french co i think-Kazoo or something

On the amateur tournaments the score sheets are barcoded. The brackets are instantly updated as soon as you bring the sheet back to the refs.

From my experience, I walked no less than 10 paces when I checked my iPhone and saw my match update. Perhaps the players are still mulling around, talking about the last bad shot.

Kazoom does things on a pretty big scale. From what I understand they are losing their ass at it but have some money behind them. No one in this country seems to be willing to fire a few 100K so I wouldnt look for the laptop scoring and stream of every table in the US anytime soon.

Us open 10-ball scoring

This is the procedure.
The pro arena and matches are located in the Royale (back) ballroom.
After the ROUND is finished, the score sheets go to the counter in the front ballroom and usually get entered within 2-3 minutes - unless all amateur matches have been completed for the evening and IT guy has gone to bed.

It is not practical to run the score sheet every match - in addition, stickers have to be printed and put on the 3 sets of flow charts.

Hope this helps.
It is never as easy as it seems.

In the Final arena for the Japan Open last year, they were using an Ipad at each table as a scoreboard. I bet you could write an app that updates a website directly from the Ipad and the players would essentially be doing all the work themselves. Streaming every table would be difficult because lack of bandwidth would become a problem, but scores shouldn't be all that difficult with a little creativity.

No i wasnt asking for stream on every table Justin but last night watching TAR, i got a few scores/results there and at least an hour later went to the charts and the match i had watched had not been updated nor any of the others in the same round. It is not the first time i have noted this -It's every tournament CSI WPBA etc. Wait- I think the DCC updates their non brackets pretty darn quick-they are the exception.

Wonder how CW was able to pay Kazoom all that 4-5 years ago. Im guessing it was a loss leader/foot-in-the door type deal for Capt America.

All the things you have to overcome doing a tournament, I'd think finding a way to run the sheets up every 15 minutes would be easy. Anyway Thanks for all you do.

PS- Im supposed to be there but due to a bad stomach i had to cancel and lose ALL of my $$ on the plane tickets and hotel as they were prepaid and non refundable.

what about Rain Chiang ? Never heard of that guy....Jay, any infos ?

Another new guy from Taiwan I've been told. Taiwan is like the Philippines in that they constantly turn out new players. And good ones too! Plus many more emerging from China. That's a good thing imo. Pool is growing over there.

thats right...too bad Li Wen Lo did not come back this time, he was strong last time....
