U.S Open Escrowed by Accu-Stats

This is what drives me crazy.... All the talk about the players being screwed, "what are we going to do about the players being screwed" How about the people paying for this shindig???? The (SPECTATORS) They (we) keep getting a raw deal every year with seating nightmares & 45 minute drunkin speaches before each match. Without people in the bleachers there is no US Open.

Totally agree. For sure multiple groups/people will be screwed this year.

The thing that makes this agreement unique is that for the first time for this event, there will be an honest and accurate assessment of where things stand monetarily, 90 days out.

So while this doesn't guarantee the prize money, it does guarantee the truth, and everyone can plan accordingly. That's pretty strong.

I don't understand pinklady why the mention of the venue expenses, vip refunds, etc.

The press release was very clear that Pat is handling the player prize fund. Pat's language was very direct and specifically targeted towards the prize fund.

Barry is sure to mess things up. But the point of Pats involvement is to not shortchange the players. Where the shortage will come this year is anyone's guess.

i agree that Pat's responsibility is to the player's prize money, as it should be, and it will be.

but in the past, Barry has "floated" this money to spin any/all other expenses. if all of this money is tied-up (locked-down) in escrow, then WHERE is he going to get the extra $$$$$ to prepay the bills to "öpen"?

and yes, without asses in seats buying tickets - there is no venue.

The truth will set you free...

I agree with you that the truth is pretty strong.

Im just not sure people want to know the truth.

Nothing will change.
Pat is doing a good thing by stepping in.
But Barry will find some way to screw Pat over or mess everything up like he always does.
Spectators will be screwed over.
Players will be screwed over.

And Roberta will mysteriously vanish from the forums when everything goes down the toilet...again.

and as i recall, Barry stated that they would refund anyone who got screwed from last year's VIP tickets. has anyone received their money? and if not, do these claims come off the top for Pat to reimburse?

For the little that I know it seems to me that Pat is trying to step up as a solid and honest individual to handle the money in a transparent and trusted fashion to make sure this event moves forward. I can't in any way see how Pat would be responsible for any promises that Barry made in the past regarding VIP tickets.

He is stepping up to make sure that no funny business happens with entry fees or guaranteed money for THIS year. It is very clear that he has mentioned a drop dead date that if the proper amount of money isn't available that he can immediately notify people about the shortage and back out if need be.... or at the very least communicate and discuss options.

If you can't trust Pat, you can't trust anyone.

Good on Pat for saving the Open because after last year thats exactly what this is IMO. I have complete faith in Accu-Stats to hold up their end. History says that they will be thrown some curve balls so if things do go pear shaped I hope they don't take any heat for things outside their control.

Anyone else think 300 VIP and 600 GA seats sounds kind of optimistic?

I would've loved to have bought a few of those 300 VIP seats for my 18th straight event but I'd only have myself to blame for being treated like a fool again.
If I were a player I'd be very happy knowing a man of unquestionable charictor (Pat) would be holding the prize money.

It MAY have been doable 15-18 years ago or so for the FINAL. When Earl played Efren in the finals, there was no AS arena and the only available seats were all the way down at the wrong end of the far bleachers where you couldnt possibly see a thing. Otherwise they were crunched in there everywhere.

Since that time however, someone has caused a lot of ill will around this event. It's no longer possible.

Your common sense is amazing Unc ! tyvm

from the ABR thread -

This.
So if Shane is owed $120,000 for the past 3 years and is being paid installments of $16,000 per year what happens if he files a ckaim against the $75,000 to collect asap?

He probably received 10K or so at the event and he only won 85K the last 3 years 25+30+30

this would explain why you never got your prorated refund on your VIP tickets.

i'd love to see Barry's balance sheet, before he GOBs.

The Open

hehehehe - you caught that, too? are you going?

I personally havent been in 2 yrs before that a general admission all they got to see was a big screen, I can stay home and do that so whats the point.

If you have a big event I would tend to think that the idea is to make Pool accessible and promote the sport. Its a shame when that isnt done.

1)New Venue that has room to do what was done at the convention center... 2)Pat handling the escrow....
3)Shane going for a 4th in a row
4)It's the Open

I know I may be fooling myself but here is to hoping for the best US Open ever... I know the history says Barry will manage to mess the seating up or something else but where else will you reallly realllly want to be in October when it's going on.......

I would like to add to my feelings and this post that the best Ive been to was Edison NJ at the Expo.

There were 8 tables and bleacher on the side, People could see some really great matches and were free to come and go and go buy stuff!

That was the best I had been to and I hope more are along the same lines up to an including the next US Open. My opinion that any promotional event put on should be about appealing to the fans, advertising to the fans, delivering the game to the fans.

The fans pay the bills.

Nothing this year. While I admire all the efforts you've put into creating what is, arguably, the best pool tournament in the country (and you've had to overcome quite a bit), your mishandling of it (funds, seating, lack of professionalism, etc) has worn on me to the point where I just don't enjoy coming. And I won't spend that much money (~$750 for about 3 or 4 days) on something I don't enjoy.

Show me a couple of years where things improve and I might consider returning but only because it's a 2 hour drive.

Best of luck for a great event.
