We did many small things wrong at the MC, but IMO we are way too aggressive when it comes to taking a safe or going for the hero shot. I know it's short races, but a lock-up safe get's you back to the table even in a race to 0ne. They out played us in when to fold or when to go for it. Short races with alt-break are not won by 90% offense and 10% defense. Johnnyt

Spoken by a true critic, and somebody who was never even close to the skill level of these players. I guess you must have missed the really great back and forth safety play. When is the last time you actually started a positive thread?

Sorry Scott, but if you think the safety play of the US in the 2015 Mosconi Cup was even passable, you are mistaken. Where I disagree with JohnnyT, though, is that the problem was largely in defensive execution more than avoidance of defense when it was called for.

Oddly enough, it wasn't until the very final match of the Mosconi that we had a Team USA player clearly outplay his European opponent in defense and kicking and that was Skyler Woodward in his match against Albin Ouschan. Ironically, Skyler lost to an improbable kick in at double hill and the Mosconi was over.

I'll write my own trip report and get into some of this in greater detail.

Looking forward to what you write. I did not see all the matches.

Stu...I was referring to Skyler's last match with my post to johnnyt. He implied that there was NO good safety play by Team USA...simply not true. Yes, we got outplayed, but all of those Team USA members have played far more capable safeties than what we saw during this tournament, and each of them played SOME great safes. Some were answered back, some got some lucky or unlucky rolls. Some clearly dogged it. But to say there was none is simply ridiculous. BTW, I really was talking more about johnnyt's negative attitude here than anything else (you know, that thing your momma taught you about what to do if you have nothing good to say ...:ignore:). Sadly I wasn't able to be there like you, but I did watch every match.
