Unknown "monster" players

Do you know how I might get in touch with Harold?? I was in Sanford for a while while he was there and he had a picture that I wanted. We were going to get it duplicated and framed like his but I lost contact.
Last I heard he had moved and lost alot of weight.

Great picture BTW --- a bunch of champions all together with all of their names. Pretty sure it was from Johnson City.
I would love to still go through with the deal that Harold and I made.

I was looking at old material and saw this article. Of course, I realize this is an old request; however, I believe I have this photo. My AZ tag is
gaterc@shentel.net.

The Miz gave him the 7 playing 9 ball and they broke even.
And that was told to me by the guy that backed him and was there.
I have seen Brian play and was in a Chicago (1 & 5) game with him in the mid 80's and Brian could play.
I think that would be a tough road for the 'Miz' with that game!

That's ironic, Frank got so mad after Melton beat em, he snapped his shaft and threw the butt in the trash. I retrieved it, put a shaft on it and made $80. The guy had a frikkin' temper that's for sure.
I used to ship him cues from Canada…..he broke a few. Knew him since he was a kid…pretty sure he was the best 12 year old player I ever saw….but he got into bad habits young…drank himself to death a couple years ago.
I had a soft spot for him….gone too soon.

Watching some of these guys train is nuts. They'd be identified as having a touch of the 'tism in the context of most other countries lol
While I totally respect the dedication it takes to reach the pinnacle in pool, and just about any competitive sport, it's also in a weird way ruining my love of sports. All sports are becoming a never-ending slog, where every aspect of the game is broken down, focused on, and practiced none stop all year long. The beauty of the natural athlete is sort of being lost in my view. Maybe it's just me or maybe I'm just getting old. In a way, I'm more impressed by those listed in this thread that became great at pool while not totally dedicating their every waking hour to it.

He's not playing anymore, but a player from up in the NE area, SE CT to be exact, was extremely strong. Greg Hoagland. He had so much natural talent, but was just bored with the game so stopped playing. He just concentrates on his plumbing business and golf's occasionally. When he was playing, he was beating Chicken George (spotted him 3 games to 9 and gave him the first break), Wayne Collins(9 ball and 1 hole), and if I remember correctly, had a perfect record against Ginky in the All About Pool tournaments and early Joss events. I know that I've seen him run through Alex Lely in 9 ball and 1 hole, and was only taking 2 points from Parica when Jose was playing out of CT.

Another player who I don't think has been mentioned here is Ian Costello. He's probably a little better known, but he's originally from the NY area and was living in the San Jose area last I saw him. He's also not playing as often, (cards), but can hit them pretty sporty.

In TX, he's probably also more of a "name", but JR Harris doesn't play too shabby...

edit: I'm forgetting Billy "the kid" Lanna too... havne't heard from him in some time.
Ian was living around Charlotte in the 90s when I met him, he's been in vegas for a while playing poker

Poochie

Harry "Poochie" Sexton from the Detroit area. Out of great respect the late "Poochie" should be part of this thread. In his early days he ran with Buddy Hall. He told me once that Buddy told Pooch that he could give him the eight, and Poochie respectfully said that "He probably could." Not a whole lot of weight from Buddy. A GREAT nineball player! Didn't play the other games though, other than maybe straight pool. When breaking, he'd set the cueball almost at the headstring and bridge off the backrail (LONG stretch). He would come out of his shoes, cueball crushing the 1, flying straight up in the air a foot or two or three, then squatting it in the center of the table. Over and over and over again. Position play was maestro-like. A fierce competitor that truly enjoyed watching his opponents "crack." (He told me so) A big, big heart too, though. Miss him. Maybe some of the old timers has a story or two about a player many of you haven't even heard of.
I played poochie once and every shot was a kick, I won 1 rack

This thread has to be the greatest ever on AZB!..It spans over 8 years, and over 800 posts..For any pool nut (like me} it is well worth the time it takes to read the entire thread..More good stories, etc. than any other collection ever!..Do yourself a favor, and read them all!
The Detroit poolroom thread might be better(can't remember the name, started by my boy Fsutton)

I played poochie once and every shot was a kick, I won 1 rack
Sadly Poochie's alcoholism got the best of him ... way too early. He always struggled because of it. If you saw what I saw .... he had one of the most controlled, powerful breaks in his day. A time when power and control were far more important than they are today.

We exaggerate a lot sometimes in our stories. Some get handed down from one to another and you know how that goes. But the Rack in Detroit thread? No exaggerations there.
The guys I know from MI who were there all say the same thing- If you heard about something happening there, it was probably true.
