if Schmidt declines for the second year in row he should not be considered again

That's a little too harsh. Flying off to another country is not a cheap proposition.

thanks smashmouth

ive been invited the last 5 years and i went once in 05.anyway the reason i turn down the invite is not because im lazy its because i have no sponsors .therefore i cannot justify getting off the plane and having to come in like 8th to break even.and thats after a 20 hour flight, jet lag ,food and sleep problems and if i do manage to finnish high i have to split the money with a stakehorse. i have a great record against the pinoys in tourney play so i feel i could represent the usa and myself well.instead i will have to decline the invite and let the upa send guys in my place that i could give the six to .then listen to how america sucks at pool because nobody finnished in the top sixteen etc.anyway i had really hoped that winning the usopen 9ball would have gotten me sponsored but its a year later and nothing has happened and believe me ive tried.anyway im lucky and thankful for everything i have and i will make itfinancially sponsors or no sponsors.one thing i dont like though is guys like smashmouth saying i should not be invited like im lazy or something.he does not understand how much effort and money it takes to go over there or like i have not paid my dues or something. no hard feelings smashmouth but there is more than meets the eye on this one.

John

A player of your stature does not need to give anybody an explanation about anything. Your track record speaks for itself. No sponsor? Not for long, I hope.

John,
How much money do you need to pay your expenses for this tournament?

I know that you've previously posted here looking for stakehorse/backers. Is there any reason why you can't open a thread looking for stakehorses/backers for this tournament?

Don't listen to 'em John. You are one of the most impressive players I've had the chance to watch. Just keep doin what ya can.

John, No one said you were lazy. That was your choice of words. I just don't like the fact that you demean the players, other than yourself, who were selected. I'm looking for the ones you could give the six to. Please tell us who they are.

First prize is only a hundred grand, so I can understand you not wanting half of that. It is only $10,000 more than first place in the U.S. Open. Should I go on? You and I both know there is a lot more I could say if I wanted to.

John, I respect you as a player and I know you are quite popular on here. But get off your high horse. If you don't want to go to the most important pool tournament in the world, that's your call. Just don't knock the guys who do.

Wow, reading John Schmidt’s post is really depressing. It’s probably the saddest post I’ve seen on this forum.

I think he summed up the state of professional pool in the US all in that one post. After all that he’s accomplished and the level he plays at, it’s so bad that it prevents him from competing in a tournament that he belongs in.

Really, really depressing.
