update 3 NACPBA Tour table order

I've been doing web development for about 11 years now - design, development, database work, etc. etc.

IMHO, the NACPBA website is quite horrid.

That good enough for ya? :D

I like the bit about "restructuring" - how do you restructure what has yet to even HAVE a structure to start with? :)

Nevertheless, I hope this is just a bump in the road and that they are, indeed, the real deal.

As far as the site is concerned... I woudn't say it was put together by an 11 year old BUT there's definitely some polish missing and some things that make me suspicious as a technologist:
  • The banner is really poorly done. In particular the "North American Confederation of Professional Billiard Associations" part. The flash animation on the homepage is on the low low end of what you typically see being done with flash (look at the graphics for the 1-7 balls). The "kick off announement" animated gif is also poor.
  • Technically speaking, the logo gif is 3KB, the banner gif is 9KB and the cheesy animated announcement gif is a whopping 171KB. There's no way they should be wasting 171KB on that. This part of it at the very least was either done in haste or is amateurish.
  • Looking at the source code for the homepage I see a ton of references to "http://aleciabatson.com/music/new..." right after the opening <body> tag. Along with those references, there's a bunch of random garbage in there like "cialis vs levitra". What's this doing in there? Well if it's not in there by design (like for example to get search engine hits), which wouldn't seem right for a professional association site, it's either somoene cut and pasting html and not cleaning up after themselves, or a freeware editor inserting crap. You can see this for yourself, go to the homepage: http://www.nacpba.com/index.htm, in IE, right click and go to "View Source" then scroll down.
  • I'm somewhat surprised not to see any css files used. Instead I see the same or close to same <style> block used on every page. That makes the site really hard to maintain or facelift.
  • I found one broken link: Off the menu: About Us/Future Of Pool
This is all I see at first glance. I haven't done much web dev over the last few yrs, it's been mostly enterprise app dev, so I'm no sherlock holmes with this stuff. I know AZ has quite a few technologists so maybe someone else will notice whatever I've missed. :)

I picked up on that garbage in the link to http://aleciabatson.com/music/new and drug searches pages as well. The site however has been updated continually since the beginning of the month which means it is being updated as we speak. Why would anyone waste their time with all of this and a key question is when you look at the contact for promotional (marketing) here is Speer Mabry. Check out the following 2 links.

How many Speer Mabrys are in Atlanta??

http://www.nacpba.com/promcontact.asp

http://www.m-mlegal.com/attorneyinfo.asp

Too many questions really! Why would a ~75 yr old name partner in a law firm be the promotional contact for a professional pool tour. Odd

If you look at those two sites closely, they have a very similar layout. Both are center instead of left justified. Both have drop down menus for navigation, and both have their stylesheets embedded in the pages, rather than storing them externally. Both use asp. M-legal.com seems better designed, but I wouldn't be surprised if nacba.com was based off of the m-legal site.

I agree that the site is not that well designed, but it does have a great deal of information on it. A lot of stuff to put into a hoax on a relatively small community.

It's his son. I met him at the Mosconi Cup.

Received a call from Tim Dennis concerning the table order for the new tour. Was told that there was going to be some restructuring and the order is on hold. I asked for an email that I could post explaining the new direction for the tour in his words rather than mine. I will post the email as soon as I get it.
No need for me to say more at this time. I need to gather my thoughts and efforts towards something I have some sort of control. The Derby City Classic! The truth be known, I'm not sure how much control I actually have, the DCC seems to be getting a life of it's own. ha! Greg/Diamond

update: received this email today Dec. 31, 2007
Greg,

After all the research and valuable input we recieved from multiple
people in Las Vegas. We feel that we need to take a little more time to
evaluate, and restructure the tour. As we have stated many times we want
the input and frankly, greatly appreciate all the input. With everything
involved with the magnitude of the project we have undertaken we feel
that we need to take this extra time to make sure we do everything
correctly. After we decided to do this we felt that placing that order
for the tables right now would be pre-mature.

Hope your holidays were great, and I hope the Derby City Classic is
another awesome event for you.

Tim Dennis

I received another email from someone wondering if I should be posting the NCAPBA's business on the net so I think I should tell everyone that I got their approval before I ever posted on AZ.....Greg

Thanks for keeping us up to date Greg. I hope that folks will not make this project less viable with their negative assumptions and their ego-centric attempts to be shrewed operaters.

If a guy has doubts about whether this project is on the up and up why not just lay back, be quiet, and wait and see. When you run your mouth and put out poisenous seeds you are helping to kill any chance that it will ever come to pass. You squash the hopes and enthusiasm of the people that just might be sincere in their desire to make this happen. It just doesn't make sense.... except that when the dream does die completely you can tell everybody that you were right, that you were hip to that jive, that you were smart and recognized that con right from the start, etc.

I for one, have to acknowledge Greg for keeping the pool world up to date on his negotiations with this particular new group. It is in the best interest of everyone that he keeps us informed, more so considering the recent failure of the IPT to live up to its promises.

I wish them the best with their new tour, but will remain skeptical until something concrete is established. Another old saying, TALK IS CHEAP!

Russ, I notice that you are a critic of the NACPBA website itself and believe it is very rudimentary, and therefore it must be a ruse. Do you base this criticism on experience as a web developer? If so, please elaborate on your experience designing and building websites. I am in too many years in IT with little experience in Website desgn and development. I just like to know the technical credentials of someone criticizing technical work before I take it for gospel. Kind of like when a 11 year old says "Dad, I think you need a new engine in your car, this one sounds like it is about to die." And the dad replies "Yeah son, ain't that a sweet cam?"
Dont ever post on this website again, thats how bad that post was

nacpba tour

with the tables on hold, one has to believe that all is not ok in Denmark. I guess we have to go back to the individual tournaments around the country. Too bad, I hope Charlie Williams and Matchroom sports can help the guys in Phoenix with thier $ 25,000 added tournament.

KT and the IPT have finally made the pool world ask questions when someone seemingly wants to hustle the players and mfg.
In hindsight it will help us all, no more pie in the sky, pipe dreams must be filled with cash, put into escrow with full disclosure mandatory. And of course a few Lawyers.
