Update on the "Schmidt List"

I talked to John Schmidt this evening. He once again expressed his gratitude.

As most everybody knows, John had a good tournament. He did not win, but he did finish ninth cashing at $1,500. In a field this strong, no other way to look at this than as a strong showing. Congratulations John!

The deal with the backers was that for supplying $1,000 we get half the winnings. Well, to the nits that were critical about all this please read the next sentence carefully. John insists on sending us $1,000, not $750. I tried to talk him out of it, but he insisted. John wanted to make it clear that he is an honest and upstanding player. He did not want any of the backers to take a loss, no matter how small, on backing him.

So, again, John sends out a big “Thank You” to everybody that is supporting him. His very grateful for the support of the fans and will continue to try and represent the sport with professionalism and integrity.
 
That is a heck of a lot more than most players would do given the same circumstances. Good luck in the future Mr. Schmidt.

From what I've seen, Shmidt deserves as much and more than any player, he's got the skills and a better attitude than most players; I hope he gets the hookup quick.
 
A great guy and smart!

John is a great guy and smart. I suspect that it won't be real hard to find backers on these forums the next time he decides to go that route if he does. If not, many will still remember the class he has shown.

John is $250 out of pocket that he didn't agree to cover. The good will?

What a guy. Although I wish you would have taken your full 50%(you did all the work) I thank you for giving us the chance to back you. As I said before I would do it again in a haert beat. Good luck in the tournaments ahead and everything else in life. Johnnyt
 
Amazing.....

It was a real thrill to be one of "The 10".....and I would do it again without even taking a split-second to consider it.

Mr. Schmidt is a real class act.....and an example for others to follow, for sure. I hope he got a sponsor this time around......he, above all, has shown that he deserves one.

Congrats on the tourney, John. We're proud of you.

What an absolute star of a guy! I hope he gets a full time sponsor soon, he deserves it. Whatever happens I'm sure he'll always have the backing & support of the AZB crowd.
 
I Must Say It!

John is the classiest act in pooldom today. I can assure you he is out of pocket more than $250. There are great things in store for John Schmidt. These kinds of acts do not go unrewarded. He has demonstrated once again that he is a great player and a wonderful human being. There is nothing I wouldn't do for him if he needed help in any way. God bless you my friend.

Perhaps some of the naysayers could follow his example even if they don't support him. That would be a good thing.
 
Can someone please send me John's address in a PM I will not publish it. A deal is a DEAL. I was in for 5% of the take. According to my calculations that's $75. I don't want or need the other $25. I wouldn't have expected any extra jelly if he'd won the whole shooting match, and I don't think it's appropriate for him to suck up my loss. They do call it gambling for a reason.
I for one am only looking for $75. If he really feels the need to do more, let him include a thank you note, or a copy of his dvd. Money is hard to come by, and he deserves his fair share. We win together, We lose together. We should be sending him a thank you note for the thrill ride.

I agree with this post. I will certainly buy the DVD one way or the other.

It is so great for pro billiards to have such an upstanding representative.

I am certain "The Schmidt Listers" will be "IN" anytime John requests assistance.

That's an extremely classy and intelligent move for John Schmidt to pay back his backers in full, even when the business agreement doesn't require it. He's guaranteed that whenever he needs backing in the future, he doesn't have to look any further than this board.

This post is for John. I was too late to get in as a backer but in the future, I certainly don't want to cut out any of those who did back you but if and when you need a backer or any portion thereof, please pm me.
 
Not that I think there was any ill-intent (I really don't). I just don't think John's business transactions should be posted here, even if it's by someone who was involved in the transaction. It sets a bad precedent for this forum and has the potential to undermine any future business transactions John may have and possibly sour any business transactions that happened prior.

Just to reiterate, I don't think there was any ill-will. I just think that transactions such as these should remain private.

I think Jude's point is, it might get people thinking that they should get the same deal the next time they back someone - that suddenly there's "no risk".

I don't think it's that. A very big % of pool player's on here know what gamble means. Johnnyt
