Just made my hotel, car rental and flight reservations for LA.

Who else from the forum is going? Bnkunderme you still here?

Where in LA? If it's near Shreveport, I can stay at my grandmother's, in a nearby town. I bet it's down near New Orleans, though. Not sure we can make a trip that far. I can hope, though. When will it be?

It's about time they had something close enough we can go!

It start July 2nd in Los Angeles, CA. I'm sorry to say there seems to be not a single snooker hall big enough left in the middle of the country. It's either NY or LA. The Chicago venue's closed too!

Wow. Sorry to hear it's in L.A., not LA. Was sure hoping for some good stuff nearby. Not a lot happening in the middle, here.

Good luck, tho!

Not sure who the favorite is. Aly is the reigning champion (made the first snooker tour century this year) Fung beat him to win the NY stop of the tour.
There are/were some really strong players from LA, but they haven't participated in the tour this year.

The first round is a round-robin group stage. So all players traveling to LA get to play at least 4 or 5 matches before packing their bags. After that it's single elimination. Round robin is best of three. Upto and including the quarter finals it's best of 5, semis is best of 7, final is best of 9.

As of right now, there are 18 entries. That's a lot for a month ahead of the start, so we might end up with a full field of 32.

I got a room at the Rodeway Inn & Suites on N. Del Mar in Rosemead. The reviews on-line look OK and it's only $48/night (tax included) with kitchen and free wireless. It's about a 6-minute drive to the Embassy Club.

I can't wait! I guess with 12 tables available, even going through an 8 person round robin could be done pretty quickly.

It's gonna be great!

Please take pictures and post them here. I'm really looking forward to hearing about the tournament.

im going down

im going down thjis week to try out the tables and to determine if im going to play. I may even consider streaming it live if there's enough interest. If i play in it i might need some help to stream it though. I have one friend who might help me and imight try and pimp the foprums for some help. I may end up being the official streamer of the off beat games. 3c, 14.1 and snooker. Lol

We now have 25 entries, with several others expected to enter. The draw will take place at the Embassy Club in San Gabriel about 9PM on Thursday night, July 1st. All entries must be paid before the draw. It's a little late to pay by mail, so if you want to enter but are not certain to arrive before the draw, please contact me. Jaden- sent you a PM regarding streaming/broadcast.

I'm almost packed. Just a little light practice (and a whole day at work tomorrow) then I'm off. See you all there!

Too bad it is scheduled at the same time as the Hollywood Jack Memorial One Pocket Tournament at Hardtimes in Bellflower, CA.

I just came from the event.

Embassy Billiards is a decent room with lots of tables: over a dozen 6' x 12' Riley's and about seventeen 9' pool tables. There is no question that's it's a snooker first club though - the pool tables really need some renovations and TLC.

I don't really know anyone in the event; except Tony Annigoni (competing) and Bob Jewett that is tournament director.

There is no cover charge to watch, and with decent A/C, it's a relaxing environment to spectate.

It's true that it's a little bit of a bummer that the Hollywood Jack Memorial One Pocket event at Hard Times in Bellflower is also this weekend; however there was very little promotion from the snooker people, so no one really knew about the events colliding. Great billiards all over the greater Los Angeles area this weeekend!!!

Here's some pics...

Edit:

P.S. It was very cool to see these two employees cleaning the tables following every match!
