I don't think seeding implies that the higher seeds get the bye. Looking at the brackets they did the seeding for the top players for sure - Dennis and Shane (the two players) won't meet until the end of the A side. I think they did the fair thing - put the top 16 players in the spots and then randomly assign everyone else - including Mr. Bye.

It looks to me that the top players all were spaced apart. And each of their opponents is much lower ranked. In other words the whole top 16 were treated equally, and not further subdivided.

Seeding 100% means you put the top 16 players in spots 1 through 16 on the bracket as seeds (just like the NCAA tourney) and then you fill in the rest with entrees. With 45 players all top 16 players should have gotten a bye. Sullivan Clark doesn’t get a bye and Chip Compton gets stuck playing SVB.

James Arianas as the third best player should be in the bottom bracket with Orcullo and wouldn’t play til the 5-6 place match. Instead you also have SVB Aranas and Klenti all in the top half of the bracket.

The top sixteen seeds should have gotten the byes first. Only 26 players will play a first round match. The other 19 players received byes. That way there are 32 players left in the second round on the winner's side. This is not rocket science. :wink:
 
It’s still seeding the way they did it. Who decides to make the NCAA tournament as the gospel? It’s arbitrary.

I think the second paragraph reflects a bigger issue than the first. I certainly understand why it makes sense to give the byes to the top seeds and why that might be the preferable system, but I don't think it is required, even acknowledging that I've never run a seeded event in my life. On the other hand, I do think it is messed up to have the #3 seed in the top half of the draw.

Separating the pro events from the amateur events at the Rio was a major mistake. Dramatically diminished my interest in attending the BCA nationals. Probably will hurt both events. That whole hotel casino pool city is a pretty cool thing. I'd bet the BCA attendance is down also. Too bad, that used to be one of the best pool events I've ever been to.

I get what you’re saying but I’d rather have them play at griff’s if that’s what it takes to have 9 footers for the pros.

I’m disappointed too in the turnout. My friends and I booked flights and hotels mainly to watch the 8 ball. We did it last year and enjoyed it, but I wish more guys showed up. Where is Shaw? Earl? Bergman? Morris? Dechaine? Morra? Bustamante? Appleton? Ouschan? Mika?

I understand you, believe me. But your first post made it sound to me like CSI was lying and did not seed, period. I was pointing out that there are many ways to seed, and that CSI did in fact, seed.

I also just took your advice, and looked up seeding on google and it took me to a tennis seeding Wikipedia. In that article alone, they list several different ways of seeding. Even one way with re-seeding after every round. They also give an example of a tennis where only the top 32 are seeded, and the rest are randomly placed. One year, the world number 1 met the world number 33 in the first round, and everyone was crying about it.

So that is about what we have here. There are probably 100 different ways to seed a tournament. CSI did seed it. They used their own method. But they did it.
 
Yes the format rules stated Top 16 seeded based on FargoRate. So #1 could have played #17 in the second round. But the way Jay described it is the
way it should have been done. And the format didn’t say reseeded each round (that would be a completely different description as well).
 
I have seen previous pool tournaments that were seeded for maybe a quarter or eighth of the players but no seeded player got a bye. In some sense that's fair because in return for seeding the top players, the lower players get a chance at a bye. And some top players prefer to have the extra match to get used to the equipment.

Personally, I prefer the standard seeding arrangement where byes go to the seeded players first.
 
Seeding = making sure top players don’t play each other until late in the tournament. That is how NCAA basketball works too. Byes going to seeded players = optional.
 
First of all thanks for the draw, been looking for it all day.

yes it was stated first 16 rated by fargo rate but some how top rated players did not get bye, when some unrated players did?
 
not a cheap tournament to play in, 500 entry only 10k added / event. im thinking 1000 to play in each event after expenses. Maybe better odds of making money closer to home. But very sad lots of top players MIA
