There is a plethora of "open" events that the everyday player can enter and rub elbows with the big boys. We should not be selling out the prestige of a US Open. There must be a better way.
When I think US Open, I think 9 ball in Virginia. These have a title but they are still infants without the prestige of the 9 ball event. Heck most of the players were at the Townsend Memorial instead of US Open One Pocket. There very well would have been a different champion as most or the best were at the Townsend.
It seems at this point they should try to get as many entries as possible to obtain a strong following. Why does it matter if fees are staggered and lower level players play? One of five players will win it anyway.
