US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

Bullshit, a properly managed company can make events happen without such a requirement. Hell I have covered much bigger events for my music media company that involved multi day & multi week events & none of them required where I had to stay. The only requirement was to show up & do what you need to do.
99.9% of your posts are betting on sports. .1% is talking about how you feel Fargo ratings are BS.
I'll stick to what I know, which is what I posted.

What were the other sources of revenue for the organizers of those events? If there was a host hotel, did it fill up? Often there are room-night requirements that are not mentioned by the promoter, but the attendance is large enough that the rooms fill easily.

Casino's are a gaff.
They are good at fleecing.... charging excessively for goods or services.

What I post does not change the fact snowflake. If you choose to believe the BS, that is on you for your ignorance. You are comparing a niche sport with a small attendance to events demanding people stay at specific places to major yearly event with an average attendance of 6 figures, featuring high level people in all forms of entertainment down to even the President of the United States with no requirements of where to stay.

Yeah sure, you know what you are talking about. FOH

Dismissed....

Seems if they wanted too they could assign regular and preferred players registration windows and everyone else would be on standby. Would deposits work?
Agreed.

I really spend next to no time speculating what they could do to improve. Not that I don’t have ideas, but it isn’t my tour and I have absolutely zero influence in it.

As a player i make a habit of keeping my focus on things I can control and not chasing trains of thought that are out of my control. So I focus on playing my cards right to get signed up asap and give my best performance.

So you’re right but this is the turf we play on.

Maybe have qualifier tournaments with top 8 finishers eligible. I don't know but I watched several matches that looked like a APA match where the 2 got fed to the 7.

That's the Women's pro tour.

Some chick that would of been an APA3 was playing Kelly Fischer in some event in January. She got spanked 7-0 in both her matches. That chick would of gotten through one round of the TAP event across the room.

And how to do rate someone that is a "Pro" player? Do we get a Pro card like golf? They need to qualify every year.
Matchroom has a ranking list for pool. They can start from there. I imagine it could eventually turn into something like the snooker tour.

In the case of the pro snooker players, there are 128 (or so?) recognized pro players on the tour who are guaranteed spots in tournaments. If you finish near the bottom, you fall off the list. So far as I know, there are no entry fees to the pro snooker events.

Matchroom most definitely only opens up a certain amount of spots to the public. The rest are reserved for invite only players, aka highly ranked players. The issue with the day 1 streaming is that Matchroom chooses to put all the top big name players on the TV tables, regardless of who their opponent is, instead of putting the best matchups. Because the brackets are seeded, all the top players get non ranked players. There were a LOT of great matches on the outer tables that should of been on the TV tables. They need to hire or assign someone to be responsible for selecting the matches. Having 9-0 matches across the board on the TV tables is incredibly boring and not very smart of them.

Give each player a card at the beginning of the tournament.

Who do you most hate in pool?
Who do you most respect in pool?

You make sure you put the answer from question 1 on the TV table.

This news just in. I wonder how many juniors are affected.

That’s ambiguous. Are under 16 age banned from the main tournament, the SVB Junior, or both? All pool tournament press releases need proof readers, imo. Pat probably does the best job. No fluff on his, straight to the facts.

Hear, hear. A recent letter from Matchroom I pored through was riddled with missing commas and commas where they should not be. It was horrendous as far as punctuation goes. It hurt my eyes.

This banning gives me pause. How did they have the SVB Junior tournament last year under the "applicable laws and regulation" of the State of New Jersey? My thinking—and this is just a guess—is it has something to with it is illegal for persons of that age to earn/receive income, even from tournaments, due to labor laws. Just a guess, though.

Window's Open group on Facebook, Mike Molina, said he will try to find out by today what the reason is for the banning pertaining to age.

I know I wouldn't want/ALLOW my children....around/liquor/gambling and the goings on of a casino/Period.

When I helped run the Jr. Nationals at Magoos with John Lewis during the McMinn years....
It was wrong having kids/in a BAR.

They roped off the walkways for the kids some not as tall as their cue stick, the adults getting liquored up were 15 feet away.

maybe the junior event is at a different venue than a casino. still, part of the experience is to be among the pros, at least that's what they often are saying when they're interviewed. so that's a bummer. hopefully MR will stream their finals matches wherever they're played

Window's Open reported on their Facebook Group page that the age restriction at the U.S. Open 9-Ball event only affected two people.

I still do not understand the difference between an under-16-year-old competing in the U.S. Open and an under-16-year-old competing in the SVB Open if they are both held at the same venue, the Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In other words, why are under-16-year-olds okay to compete in one and not the other?

I remember years where they had a women pro tournament at the expo. Watching women play that couldn’t put 3 balls together. I’m not even exaggerating. Pool men or women at some point will need to do what golf and snooker does. Require people to prove they are good enough to play in it and not just anyone who can afford the buy in.
