US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

Yes - at the BCA/CSI Nationals at the Rio last February- because they were streaming all the Pro event tables - they continually played the royalty free music at the entire venue - and it absolutely sucked.

Did everyone demand more Taylor Swift, Snoop Dogg, Rolling Stones and other music at the event?

Another tough loss for Neils in this tournament. I believe he has said plenty of times in the past that the US Open is the one tournament he practices and prepares for the most as this title is the one he has always been after.

didn't know that. same with ko pin yi i believe, no green jacket there either?

morra leading 5-0 over roland garcia

Shame for Neils. At 5-2 I was about to post that he was on fire and a good bet to win it all. He got a couple of rolls where the ball needed to stop a hair earlier. Also the panda maybe the best jumper, he makes it look very easy. His jump stick got him out of trouble 4 or 5 times

Sanjin is taking forever to do anything.
The last 64 needs to be played with at least a chess clock if they can't have a ref to manage the time.

I'm going with a Gorst-Filler finals prediction. Really going out on a limb here...right?
Yes , two limbs probably
Filler just won last previous European Open and it is next to impossible to win consecutive
Gorst has to beat 4x800+ just to get to final and he has not been performing in MR majors
biado vs chang or shane

if pia was there i would pick josh
Like JJ, one of my picks is lil ko . Great clutch performance v Kazakis after being down 0-5 or 0-6. He has been top 3 or top 5 most consistent performer in MR events and is due another major.
I have feeling that it will be first time winner again like with few majors this year

lil ko through. big brother still in trouble vs viet guy
big ko possible big comeback like lil ko now hill hill
Yeah he did blow it but props to Marc, he has elevated his game big time in the last year or so. I always looked at him at a journey man but again, he's really stepped it up in these super events.
Marc B is king of hill hill. Probably most number of key hill hill matches won-couple in Spanish Open then here

I've been catching up on this thread and figure I'll comment.

1.
First, we agree on hosting qualifying tournaments for the big events.
I don't want these to all become invitationals -especially not the US Open, which has always been a place for an unknown to possibly make a splash in the US pool world.
I also don't want to watch a pro play a 500 fargo. A qualifier would weed out most of those who cannot run 5 balls.

2.
I find it difficult to watch the robots play this game, even at the highest level.
Tighten up the equipment if you like, but try to make the matches watchable LIVE.
Robotic pool is boring to watch, and is unbearable without a shot clock.
I cannot watch most of the Europeans without the <skip ahead 10 sec> button.
Shaw and Filler can play at the highest level without walking around the table between every shot, taking 5 seconds to get into their stance, 15 slow practice strokes, etc.
Let's say we clock their average shot time and double it. No player is allowed more time than that to take their shot.

3.
I'm no fan of leagues, but I imagine they generate more than 70% of the pool industry's total revenue in the US.
The industry sponsors would be wise to make as many reasons for those league players to be excited about pool at every level as they possible can.
Maybe YOU will not buy a Mezz, but thousands of players will, and do. They sponsor events to get their name out there and to engage with their customers.
I don't shoot with a Predator but they are the best thing that has happened to pool in years imo.
They run pro events along with amateur championships to get the entire pool community together.
They created the pred ONE series for fans to get their fix of pro pool during the scamdemic. I am thankful they are involved in pool.

4.
It is hard to teach new players discipline and dedication to what is 99.9% likely to be a hobby.
Any tradesman in America makes more money per year than any US pro besides Shane and perhaps 2 or 3 others.
If there was a reasonable chance for a career in pool here in the US, more players would have that level of dedication.

5.
While I don't share the idea, some amateurs are happy to spend the entry fee into the Open for the chance to play with a pro.
To say that is crying to receive a participation trophy is laughable. Rather, it's a form of meet and greet for the amateur/fan.
If a pro tour stop is in the area, amateurs are likely to want to be in on the action any way they can.

When it comes to Matchroom, I am neutral.
It is clear they want to grow the game, just not in America.
Agree with most of it, but if you're playing pool for a living already, you can't claim there's no money in it and don't put in the effort, if that's the case just quit and get a job.

This is extremely noticeable in American pool - the results are in and cannot be denied.

Don’t know exactly what happened but Ko Pin Yi was down like 3-8 at one point and battled back to make it hill-hill.

John Morra 8-0 leading Roland Garcia is mighty impressive.

I see MR keeps advertising the Hanoi Open. I think that might end up being the best event, based on how popular the youtube streams are when there is a Vietnamese player. I anticipate packed houses and lots of cheering.
There was a recent 3c event in Vietnam and the usually reserved spectators were replaced by loudly enthusiastic fans.

So...CONFIRMED. you'll hear that if a Viet goes deep.
