The US Open is now on the Matchroom schedule page. No word of qualifiers yet.

Booking through the link on the Matchroom website sends you to passkey.com. If you include taxes and the resort fee (which they don't show you, but is about $32 per night) the rooms at Harrah's total about $186/night for six nights. I couldn't find anything much cheaper in AC for hotels.

Bob, any entry info yet for players?
Matchroom has stated that the Open events will be filled first by the touring/signed pros and then by qualifiers held at various venues. There are no qualifiers listed for the US Open yet. Updates should be announced on the link above.

So what's your take on the other 1/2 of field?
Will they qualify two players from each venue?
Any idea how many qualifiers will be in our country?
Can one send in entry?

There is no US open 9 ball tournament anymore.....
There's a matchroom 9 ball open held in the US that's titled US open but really its just an abomination.
Matchroom has dubbed it the "US Open Pool Championship," and it is one of the world's foremost pool events. While it is fine to wish that certain things about it were different, and to discuss those things, I find it strange that someone would deem the tournament to be an abomination. What is your thinking?

name me a us open in a pro sport that allows anyone to play if they haven’t won a qualifying event. Golf doesn’t. Bowling doesn’t . If there is one other then pool I’m unaware.
Matchroom is building pool into something larger then guys playing a major tournament in a pool hall in the middle of no where for a small check they may or may not get. It seems like the only person that has a problem with it aren’t the players lol

Maybe that is what makes it so special?

I agree. MR is doing a great job of trying to create value for professional pool. Time will tell if they can succeed. I hope so, but I would bet my best plug nickel that if they don't turn it into a revenue producer sooner rather than later, they will shut it down or scale it back.

Then we will be left with pool hall tournaments in the middle of nowhere. And some folks would be just fine with that.

You don’t want guys who can’t put 3 balls together playing in a tournament as big as the us open Just because they can pay the entry fee.

They are already generating revenue. They are starting to get bigger sponsors and it’s a big world out there lol they watch pool more then we do and they are making money streaming to those countries. It’s actually on tv In other parts of the world 😃If you don’t know who Barry Hearn is the man made snooker to what it is by doing what he’s doing to 9 ball. In 10 years he took darts from nothing to guys making a million a year in winnings and sponsors. if he can do it for darts he will do it for pool lol

Do they still mandate, if you play, you must stay at the venue hotel?

I suspect that they will mandate that you make reservations through the separate reservation company they have partnered with. If you follow the reservation link on the Matchroom website you will land on passkey.com. Matchroom announced the partnership with Passkey a few weeks ago.

Last year when signing up it was Mandatory to reserve a room. Being in NJ and 30 minutes away i found it ridiclous to reserve a room for a week and a half. And buy the time MR responded to my email two hours later it was booked

So looking like they will have to hold 30+ qualifiers if only a max of 4 make it from each one. Thats a lot of qualifiers to schedule. Wonder how many will be in the US?

Does it say anywhere how many will qualify from each event?
Will all qualified have entry pre-paid?

For this one it’s 2 if 32, 4 if 64. 128 max field, but does not explicitly state 8 if 128.

Idk if this was determined by the local Philly promoter or by MR.

Yes, those who qualify will have the $750 entry paid.

''Remaining entry fees will be paid out to 20% of the field.''

32 players X 150 + $4,800- $1,500 to 1st and 2nd.

So $3,300 is the remaining.

So do 1st and 2nd get paid entry only, and the next 6 players divvy up the $3,300 is that whats being said?
