How many are willing to chip in to a fund, say $5000

So Barry can barr the top ABP players if need be, we can get thier spots filled.

I got the first $500

Enough B.S. is enough from these guys

Good effort, but it won't happen that way.

I hope Barry tells the ABP to shove it where the sun don't shine and move forward with grace. There's more people in the pool world who support Barry in this regard than the ABP, and the ABP better wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late.

Personally, I think Barry should bite the bullet this year and ban all ABP members for that outrageous press release 2 weeks before the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. If the ABP thinks what they're doing is good for pool, well, it is having an opposite effect. In fact, at the time of this writing, I think the ABP is nothing more than a vehicle for Charlie Williams to control. Somebody needs to knock him off his proverbial pedestal and take the reins of the ABP and make it a good organization, one which shows no favoritism and is transparent. As long as Charlie Williams is involved, the ABP is a pariah in my book, and that includes all its members.

They're all following Charlie Williams like trained little pigs.

This whole seeding thing is total BS for pool. I don't care what OTHER sports do, seeding doesn't belong in pool tournaments. Depending on how many players in a tournament and how many get seeded, the top players get a free ride for an average of 2 matches and sometimes many more. Is this fair? Stop the seeding all together. Maybe the top pros will not play in the first few unseeded ones, but will be back playing in all of them when they have no source of income. When the fans start seeing the young guns in the semi's or finals they will come around to like it more than if it were seeded. Seeding in pool is like giving a dragster a 20 yard lead over a stock car. Johnnyt

Seed only good for single elimination, US open is double elimination, which means there is 2nd chance for top guns.

I think it is better if they can do it this way:
I think they should make two brackets double elimination, one bracket all seeded players play each other, and the other bracket none seeded players (or better yet give a chance to those players that never advanced past 2nd round in previous tournaments)

Top 20 or 30 winners of both brackets go into a new bracket in random double elimination

This way they give a chance for young new guns to advance, and we watch the top dogs fight it out.

Why should great players play each other the first couple rounds? Seems like people want to punish those who put in work over the years to reach their high level. Svb and souquet should never be a first rd match. Mean while a rookie makes it to the third rd cause he got lucky with an easy draw.

It is double elimination, they have second chance, unlike Tennis single elimination..

Haven't you heard? Billiards doesn't even need professionals, much less seeding! Let's just ban 'em outright because of minor differences in seeding and/or because we don't like CW or those who don't blindly rage at him every morning on these forums (literally). Then we'll finally have a US Open full of half-drunk league players, and we can all sleep easy.

It makes all the sense in the world to me. :duck:

Nice first post! Are you from Orlando too?

Hi, Mr. RedEyeJedi from Orlando. How's Mickey doing?

If you're really that good, it shouldn't matter.

Mickey's trying to take over billiards, too! He, Charlie and I were just at Epcot discussing our plans!

How's Keither with the Ether? :D

You're a cutie pie! :grin-loving:

I have it on good authority that Minnie Mouse put Mickey in the doghouse with Goofy. Mickey won't be participating in any of this ABP nonsense.

amateur hour.....

You know, the ABP guys really need to understand how unprofessional this all looks. A few weeks before the event......come on really? Barry should tell them all to pound sand, at least this one year, and tell them if they want to discuss things for next year, it needs to be well in advance of the event. In fact, he could even begin discussions the week following the event.

It's shameful how this appears to be being handled. You know the old saying.......something about how you shouldn't $hit where you eat.

I absolutely hate to see this too, because there's a bunch of guys in the ABP that I admire and respect individually. Collectively, this isn't working though. I think it's safe to say that most if not all of us (fans) truly want to see pro pool rise in its stature and grow into a well-respected aura again, but these kind of juvenile shenanigans aren't the right vehicle to get it there imo.

Damn, the men in black hats from Dragon Promotions were just telling me they were about to release a new seeding with Mickey at #1; I had him as a lock for the US Open this year! Minnie ruins it all again! :rotflmao1:

You fail to realize everyone pays the same and should have equal chances of a tough draw! Your assuming ryan mccreesh and larry nevel did not work just as hard if not harder then those seeded

I use those two names because they are strong players that don't play enough events to be seeded sometimes. So its OK for nevel to get svb or ralf first round but not Charlie or Rodney or Johnny??? What about Chris bartram? Gary aboud? Donny mills? All just: under the radar but good enough to send any seeded player packing and there are tons of those! Every non-seeded player is not Elmer fudd! That's just domestic, international players what about them are they better then those seeded? Just no way to say seeding is fair when oceans prevent them from playing often enough to determine a fair seeding order.

There is just not enough tournaments and data to seed and it be fair!

Work and expenses and etc. Limit some to attend few tournaments but they are deserving of equal treatment and a fair chance at the draw.

I agree. Ronnie Wiseman told me at the 2004 Open that he thinks they should throw all the names in a hat for the draw.

It was unsettling that year to see Grady Mathews and Dave Bollman get a seed and a bye while other, maybe "more deserving" players didn't get the seed and the bye they should have. Grady, may he rest in peace, got a bye because he played in one senior tournament. Behind the closed curtain of the draw, he demanded that he and other seniors like him that played in that one and only senior event should get a seed and a bye. And the powers-that-be in 2004 kowtowed Grady and granted his request.

Dave Bollman is/was -- not sure -- House Pro at Barry Behrman's Q-Masters pool room. Was he deserving of a seed and a bye because of that reason?

Seeds suck.

Well said.

Exactly. It's almost like strong players like Nevel and McCreesh, who refuse to act like trained little pigs following Charlie the Piped Piper, are discriminated against because they are not members of the ABP.

Yeah, and that's just two names. There are literally hundreds of players worldwide that coud go on that list.

Drawing names out of a hat is the only way to go!!!

Please excuse my ignorance on the whole ABP saga, I've not read too much into the threads other than opinions. But could somebody briefly explain what the ABP's official line is for wanting the tournament seeded? I'm struggling to fathom a plausable scenario.

I agree that this tournament should not be seeded.
