Us open bar table championships...go jose "amang" parica!!!

well a good run for jose i still can't see how shane beats him 7-1 playing alternate break format but that is the result for jose in the 10 ball event.

You must not have watched Shane play that match. The way he started breaking NO-ONE would beat him cause they would never shoot

Thank god someone beat Atwell I was beginning to get pissed off.
Why is that?

Yes, I would like to know also.

A bit puzzling ain't it fellers :scratchhead:. They don't come much better then Glen -- both on and off the table.

Because I'm entitled to my opinion and because I don't enjoy the way he plays. I figured Parica would be a better match up for SVB than Glenn so that's why I posted that in a "go parica" thread. If it offends the atwell lovers guess what, go to another thread for a guy he's not playing.

Jose, comes to NYC about two times a year and matches up with a friend of mine on a nice tight table. It usually takes Jose a set or so to get going than it is inch position the rest of the way. The man is a marvel to watch his patterns are impeccable and his decision making is perfect. It doesn't amaze me he can win at his age he still does everything extremely well.

Mikey,
As to your insinuation that I am an Atwell lover: I've never met Glen Atwell. He seems like a nice enough guy and is a hell of a competitor. Hell, I've never even spoken to the man and I was just curious as to why you would be pissed at Glen having a good day.

Jose, on the other hand, has a great first name and tells great stories about his prowess as a man, even if they are hard to believe. :D

Jose and I have hung out together for more than a few minutes on many occasions. Jose has even gone in with me on a bet (and he won). I like him a lot, even if he is an older gentleman. :D

So now, don't go getting pissy on me because I asked what you were pissed about..... I just didn't know.

Now that I think about it.....What is it about Glen's play that you dislike? Really, I'm not a sheet stirrer and am simply curious. I haven't watched Glen play much pool so I don't recall anything in particular that might irritate me.

Just so you don't think I am jumping on you: I don't like to see players doing the gentleman sharks. I don't like seeing players, delay the game just to get their opponent out of stroke. I don't like seeing players call fouls on their opponent when none was committed; just to get a rise of anger out of their opponent so they will lose their stroke. OK, that's enough of my "don't likes" but I've got plenty more.

If you don't want to answer in the thread, feel free to PM me.

Thanks,
JoeyA

Jose Parica - The best player not in the HOF!

Jay,

Please tell me that the "once" was as a result of a little potation ... or better yet, a splash of "Smorgism". Please quick tell me -- I gotta get some sleep over here!

I took a small bite to see how it tasted. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I don't like his patented 10 minute break he takes during a match as soon as his opponent gets going. He does it every match, even if he is up 6-0, if his opponent wins a rack, he takes his break.

I really don't like the way he plays position, he often takes the most dangerous path and barely gets there.

There is no 'ease' to his game, everything looks tough when he's playing even the simple layouts.

He's a little too deliberate for my tastes.

He's lucky he kicks balls in the way he does or he would have been in big trouble against Thorsten, he kicked out of 3 safes pocketing balls in that match. Toasty was sick.

How would he fair in a call shot/call safe game?

Anyways I hope Parica keeps it up and makes a run at the all around.

As for Atwell I'm sure he will do well I just pray I don't have to see anymore of it.

I've known Glen for years and he is one of the best players on the entire West Coast. He is a slow, methodical player who always takes the time to figure out the best path to victory. That's his normal pace. Kind of Archer style without the table cleaning and ball & chalk moving rituals that Johnny goes through. IMO Glen is a top speed professional player capable of beating ANY opponent. He managed somehow to stay under the national radar for a long time but those days are long over.

Additionally he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and is a good sportsman and competitor. I can only say good things about Glen and he has played in dozens of events I've put on. I've probably handed him close to 100K in checks and bills in that time. He's a winner anywhere he goes!

He reminds me a little of Lassiter the way he studies the table before shooting. And then executes to perfection. Luther was never in a hurry either. But everyone wanted to watch him shoot because he was so damn good. I also enjoy watching Glen play because he is damn good himself! Results don't lie.

Once was enough! UGH!!!!

You're a better man that I, Jay! I was married to a Filipina who had twin daughters. The girls loved Balut but I could barely stomach watching them eat the damn things. They also like deep fried Baluts which were crunchier they told me! If you want to try a very special fruit, try Durian! Looks kinda like 4 pineapples grown together at the hip but smells like dirty feet amplified 100 times. I wouldn't let my wife keep it in the house it smelled so bad! Ah but I love the Philippines! (And Filipinas too)

LOL, this post makes me laugh. I play with Glenn several times a month. He is a bit slower then most, but for me i like it. It allows me to try and see the out just as he does. And when he does it differently i often find i was wrong.

As for taking a break, i believe it's in the rules for each player to take a break during the match. Let me see, just about every pro sport allows for timeouts. And most of the time a team take them when they feel the game is getting away from them. So i really don't understand why pool is any different?

And finally, if you feel Glenn is not that good i'd like to point out his 2, 2, 1, place finishes last year here at this same tourny and so far a 3rd place again this year. On a barbox he is one of the best.

You may not like watching him, you may not even like him, but his results are better then MOST.

Whoa I never said he's not good, he's a monster. I just don't enjoy watching him play. He hit one of my buddies with a well timed break before while he was in trouble and didn't come back until the very last second of the break. He's got a lot of moves.

With that said I agree he's one of the best on the bar table no doubt about that. "Atwell in Reno" is a common phrase nowadays and I think he's on the poster for the event.

I still dislike him but yes he's a champion 100%. When I say dislike him I strictly mean as a pool player he's probably a great guy and family man.
