I'm going on last notice. My first tournament of serious consequence, EVER (so far).
Outta here very early tomorrow morn to drive with 3 friends - Wednes and Thurs.
I am f'g psyched! Thanks to AZ, "whom" I found while looking for something pool related earlier this year. Without which, I am surely staying home doing something far more socially productive and far less memorable. :grin: and Here's to you!
If there are any AZBers that are there (Chestapeake), I'll be the one with the discerning, peering, road-rashed beady eyes in the Hustlin' shirt. (that's enuf to recognize, eh?)

Watch out for the Finland's Petri Makkonen, he's still in the winner side and just beat Larry Nevel 11-8 and now is facing Hohmann. I've heard Petri has been playing almost flawlessly. He's a former junior European Champion and definitely one of young guns to keep an eye on. Mika is also in the winner side. Go Finland !

BTW, don't know where to post this but John Schmidt had no problems with James Roberts on table 8 (so close to me that I had to move my beer. I'm crammed at the end of the front row of the Jacoby seats 39 & 40). Started slowish, then John rolled over him. Schmidt 11-6
Then at the 11:00PM match (still Wednesday) John had a back and forth time with Elio D'Andrea until John sunk the 9 on the break in his 10th win, then did the exact same thing on his 11th! (JS 11-8)
Also btw, either Nick Varner is the slowest player in the world, or was trying to play some mind game with Mika Immonen. It didn't work. Immonen 11-6. I felt like Ralph Cramden wanting to scream at Norton, "WOULD YOU JUST HIT IT!!!"

I like Alcano, simply because I think he is tougher than Van Van, not taking anything away from Van Van. Besides it has been a while since Ronato has won any major stuff.
Ronnie ""Easy Money" Alcano may be very hungry and that is one of the things that it takes to be number one and that's also the reason why you don't see champions finishing in first place at consecutive tournaments for a very long time. There are always others waiting in line for a shot at the crown or attempting to climb the mountain just one more time or maybe just hoping to play their best match against a great player.

Some real good match-ups here. I am very surprised to see the kid from Finland, Petri Makkonen, doing so well. I have seen him in 2 tournaments earlier, and he played awesome in the final of the European Youth 8-ball Championships, but I didn't think his skills were good enough for a performance like this. Well done Petri, and good luck against Thorsten!
For some reason I think that Jose Parica will beat Shane Van Boening. No matter what happen, I believe it will be a very close match. Jose Parica is perhaps the player that wants this title the most. (Imagine if he wins the whole event, I guess that the first thing people will tell him is: Well, Efren didn't play this year

The most interesting match here is definitely between the two Filipino superstars, Lee Van Corteza and Ronato Alcano.
I have just finished watching two matches on YouTube, Lee Van Corteza - Shane Van Boening (race to 25), and last year US Open match Lee Van Corteza - Niels Feijen.
Lee Van is playing some serious pool right now, but I think that Ronato Alcano is still a hair or three better than him, and that Alcano will win this matchup. However, my guess is that both these players, no matter who will win, will end up in Top 8 in this tournament.
