Use pool table as carom table

I am looking for advises on how to use a normal 9 ft pool able for carom play - how to block the pockets temporarily.

Any suggestions or any on market products available?

there are products available that block the pockets. dont have a website off hand though.

That would be great to find. It should block the pockets in a way which extends the cushions, and in the corners there should also be a solution for the part of the pockets that should be playable surface to make the table rectangular.

Someone should be able to help you out here.
Maybe try a Search for blocking pockets or carom tables.
I know someone posted pictures of home made blockers as well as
manufactured ones.
Edit. Darn, I know the guy who did it but I can't think of his AZ name just because I want to. It will come to me.

My local pool hall has this, although I'm not sure if it is a 9' carom or if it is smaller, basically the rails are set up in a way that if the carom ball was on the corner rails it would still be resting on the slate and not be in the pocket.

Of course I suspect this sacrifices table size and I will ask the owner how it was achieved next Tuesday during League.

edit: sorry this is a permanent solution and not temp.

I am thankful to all comments, and I have found several carom plugs on the net, but still not found a dealer's web site selling the plugs.

One thing I'd like to mention is that It will definitely be hard to replicate the speed and rails of a real carom table, especially with the corner pockets where the CB and OB often travel and come off of.

While It may be good in a pinch, it is hard to play serious carom with that equipment.

An analogy might be you taping a weight to your 5 iron and using it as your driver.

I see that. Do you think it will be better to play with pool balls 57,2 mm instead of carom balls 61,5 mm?

I would stick with carom balls, to get the same juice on pool table balls (2.25in) is definitely tougher. At the same time know:

1. your rails may not be at the right height
2. you'll get losses whenever you hit a rail that is using a blocker (due to compression of rail into the pocket w/o a solid support such as a beam of wood)
3. and that you will have to pray you don't like the crack between the blocker and the rail, since you'll get erratic behavior due to two different ages of rubber, different compression characteristics, and the gap in between.

I'm by no means an experienced carom player, but these are the problems I foresee. Whether or not this matters to you is your own personal preference, and these are just my 2cents.

@Jobba786

Did you find any inserts that block pockets?

Prices? And did they ship to Norway?

I found some, but they were quite expensive.

I have tried carom balls, but they jump off of the rails because of the heigth of the rails.

I play danish Five-pin billiards (Keglebillard) though, but with pool sized balls (57.2 mm) and 120 mm pins.

We used to play a modified game of Carom. We would rack the (10) balls, with the cue ball at the apex of the rack.

The purpose of the game was to cause the numbered object ball you were shooting to scratch off the cue ball hit, either straight off the ball, or one rail & two or three rails. The 1st player to 6 was the winner.

it was a fun game & I learned a few things...

I have seen and played with several carom pocket inserts over the years. The ones shown in mnorwood's video are superior to any others on the market. They play superior, and fit better, with more adjustments. The inventor has spent a substancial amount of time and money to create the best product you can buy, imo. He has also invented a material that overlays your pool cloth, to create a 3-c playing surface that rivals billiard cloth...so a pool table can function well for both pocket billiards and carom billiards. Contact mnorwood for more information on these products.

I have a set and I love them. Here is a link to a video I made about how to install them.
