Once or twice a week I play one pocket against the same guy, he is a beast to beat.
But sometimes when he is losing, he will go off that the table is off, the pocket is defective, yesterday I played very well and he made comments about how did I get in stroke,etc on and on.
So almost every time he went on a rant I went outside and had a smoke to give him more time to dwell on whatever he was complaining about.
We are two old guys in our '70's that pass the time at $5 a game, nothing to get upset about.
So anyway, I came out 8 games ahead and he said put it on the wire for next time, if there is one.

Well if he quits you for good, text me. I will try and get down to the room you are now playing at and keep you in stroke. :cool:

Next time ask him if he looks at the cue ball or object ball last. That should be enough to confuse him.
 
Me walking into any bar to play pool on league night could be considered psychological warfare as I've got my pool cue case in one hand my big stainless steel tumbler and a portable oxygen machine with me ha ha !

So yes I get to hear Aw hell I hoped he quit playing pool ! Or something similar while watching their expression change when they see me walk it is fun also .
As for the tumbler I drink a lot of water !

There’s a guy that’s a total go off artist in my area. He loves to bet it up and he always finds a way to lose, the problem is his antics.

He’s a large, physically imposing guy, drinks a dozen beers or more every session he plays which doesn’t help him any. He throws temper tantrums, throws chalk, balls, cues, I’ve seen him destroy 2 in the last 5 months. He’s a good score, not smart enough to quit when he should, and gets his nose wide open and generally loses $500 to $1000 every time he plays. There’s only a few guys that are willing to play him. He once asked me why I never try to match up with him. I told him the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, that if he could learn to curb his histrionic outbursts that I’d be happy to give him a nice spot and rob him, but that I won’t put up with his childlike behavior, I’m not the kind of guy that you want to try and tush hog.

To be avoided imo. I wouldn't play guys like that.

Is he throwing a tantrum, or trying to really tush hog his opponents? You're in the DC area right? I wonder if I knew him.

Probably the best advice these days. Not worth getting into anything physical or involving the law and courts.

Anybody that acts out with equipment is a gnat's ass away from violence with a person. Aside from injuries you might suffer there is the danger of defending yourself too well which can get you in deep doo-doo with the law.

That guy sounds like bad news from any direction.

You want pro psychological warfare? Do like I do.
Pull a house cue off the wall and play just as well as if it were a $5,000.00 cue.

Your opponent brings in a large case with: a break cue, low-deflection playing cue(s) with "special" tip(s), jump stick (I'm personally anti-jump), cue extension(s), "personal" chalk, towel(s), bridge connector, burnishing paper, etc.

Your opponent might think, "all this equipment and my opponent has nothing but a cue and playing jam-up."

A good one i heard yrs ago was "Damn you really play good considering how off your eyes are" Some can blow that off but it can destroy others. Those little seeds can totally mind-fk some people.

One of my doctors took up shooting competition. I mentored him, built a few guns for him, helped him be well grounded. He was a big athletic guy who had paid his way through college with a tennis scholarship.

One day he laid down a nice run then froze, gun still out. I looked at him. "Do you always cant your gun like that when you shoot?"

He looked at me, he looked at the gun, he looked at me, back to the gun, and burst out laughing. He had arrived to the point he could handle some ragging! I wouldn't do that to somebody that couldn't handle it.

It galled him bad enough I was ten years or more older and disabled and he still couldn't beat me! The event shooting steel plates down in the parish was broken into divisions. Doc and I started in the same division and were finishing first and second for awhile. I always had the bigger chunk of chrome in the backseat heading home!(grin) After six wins in a row I volunteered to move up a division.
