USPPA Reno players, did they get paid?

yep

I would like to add San Mateo's "The Great Entertainer" USPPA tournament, Daly City's "Town & Country", Shoreline billiards, & Cambell Billiards. I used to play tournament every day of the week when Gene Stary owned the USPPA (Wayyyyy back then!). I remember my first USPPA tournament at the Palace Billiards in San Francisco where I met a first met Tony Annigoni and Dave Piona...ahhh, brings back great memories!

I think TGE in San Mateo was the first USPPA tournament I ever won.......I went on to win some at TGE in San Francisco, T&C in Daly City, and once at the "Q" club in San Francisco. Yes, when Gene Stary was owner of the USPPA......The win at the "Q" Club was especially memorable for me, because I got by Keith McCready with the handicap he had to give me.....the memories are definitely sweet, but perhaps those days are gone forever.........I could have never predicted what happened at the Reno USPPA this past month......

Latest update

Yesterday on Facebook, Jeff posted that he would get paid in 2 weeks to 2 months and that Tony sounded very sincere. Whatever that means. I hope Jeff doesn't mind I posted this but since he put it on Facebook for all to see I thought I would share. I sent him a message asking if he had any information as to why this happened from what Tony told him. I mean I would think he had to give Jeff a reason for Jeff to be so calm and patient over this. But then what more can he do but go along with him.

geez..

.......2 weeks to 2 months? That doesn't sound too good......especially since some have been told before that the check will be in the mail 3-4 weeks ago....

I would agree with you, that's a pretty wide range there. Sounds like an IPT payment schedule. "We will pay you when we darn well please."

A sticky!!! :)

Hope the players get paid.

It is a real shame it has taken this long.

Don't worry, it will be promptly paid in 2 weeks to 2 months*

God, how this reminds me of the fiasco at the end of the IPT. Announcements about when announcements would be made. He dragged it out for month after month, keeping the players hanging out on a limb forever. I'll never forgive the guy for that.

2 weeks = 2 months = 2 years.......:deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

= maybe never!

This is total BS for a pool league that has been running for 20 years! Tony should sell it, give it up, or just move on. All he's doing is building ill will among the players.

I agree Scott, and quickly.

Soon there will be nothing left to sell. If someone with some cash took over, they could pay off the players and everbody could get on with their lives.

Chris

Glad to see this was made a Sticky. I've been following this one from the beginning and although I am not good enough to cash in tournaments I can tell you that this really irks me. Totally unfair to the players of course, but more importantly to the entire sport of pool.

Where is the motivation to our young folks and even to older enthusiasts like myself to strive for excellence to someday maybe get good enough to "cash" in a semi-major tournament if you don't even get paid.

What kind of a dream is that?

No thanks. Let me go pull out my golf clubs or maybe my bowling ball and join another bowling league.

Hell, maybe I should teach my son to play ping-pong so he can grow up to make more than the professional pool players. (sarcasm intended and nothing against ping-pong, great exercise and I enjoy it, but I think you get my point)

Not so fast

The problem is, it's not his to sell. It belongs to Gene Starry's widow and Tony probably has her bamboozled like everybody else.
Yesterday at the Chet Ito Memorial, everyone that has money coming was pretty closed mouth and those in the know refuse to talk due to an oral promise to Tony to stay quiet for now.

Actually, it probably would pay better. The problem is that he'd have to be able to beat the Chinese to do really well at it. Good luck at that. It's hard to compete against players coming from a program that actively seeks and trains them starting as children, and that has 20% of the world's population to draw from.

So this is the M.O.......

I fail to see the wisdom of keeping it a hush-hush issue; obviously, those who haven't been paid don't want to jeopardize their chances of getting paid, but it's not like this is a big secret to be kept; even if everyone gets paid in the end, it seems to me the damage to credibility has long been done....

nfty9er...Well if you know Mrs. Starry, why don't you send her here, so she can see what's going on, and maybe act on it. As far as people "keeping quiet", so they might get paid, that is total BS too.
