USPPA Reno players, did they get paid?

actioncentral...Hmmm. Let's see...a pound of flesh per player, times how many players? Ouch...wouldn't want to be Tony! LOL

Yes I will be there, and we will see what happens. I would like to see what Annigoni has to say, but quite frankly at this point, I think I might have to stand in line due to other players that are going to confront him and ask where the money is....

I spoke with a player from the LOS ANGELES Area. He told me they are still running USPPA tournaments down there, but are keeping the money that would go to the USPPA and when they reach a certain amount, they are going to try and pay the local players who got stiffed their money at the Reno Tourney. Sounds like a great idea.

eeesh

Sucks that the players who've already paid into the USPPA have to pay AGAIN to cover the lost money.

After the local tournament pays the winners, I wonder how much leftover was being sent to the USPPA foundation. $5 per player? Just curious how long it will take to raise sufficient funds to pay off the players. What a mess.

Were there any signs or clues that you noticed before the Reno event?

Any suggestions you can give other players about cautions to look out for?

There was some talk about Tony's business dealings, but when does word about how a person does business travel in a pool room?

If you could be more specific about bridges burned by Tony or deals gone bad that could help future players.

Some facts u should know.

First of all the money already paid into the USPPA has nothing to do with the tournament in Reno. That is seperate. The Reno money comes from entry fees and added money. The Sands always added the $15.000 don't know what happend with the Peppermill deal.
Also each player pays an extra $2.00 per week. This supposedly goes for administration costs and I am sure a buck toward profit.
I am also sure Tony was depending on that income to help payoff what is owed but since hardly anyone playing usppa now it could take awhle.

How can he afford to play a tournament????????

How is it that Tony has the money to play in a snooker tournament, yet he has no money to pay his obligations. He also won money!!! Will his winnings go toward the players payoff???????????????

That is what an American corporation (OR a LLC limited liability corporation OR incorporated corporation) can do the USPPA owes players money not Tony A. Therefore if Tony A. has money he has no legal obligation to give it to the USPPA debt. The movie phrase to remember is "shell corporation" not the "Shell Corporation."

The common problem is what if the CEO pays himself from the company profits and then doesn't pay off the bills. You are receiving first hand exposure of how people can cheat the system.

Please don't chime in on things you have no idea about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Know the situation personally, it is not a corporation it's a Tony A. Screw-up and Tony should make this right not put it on someone or something else.

Until these guys take legal action against Tony, Two Cushion, Peppermill, no money will be collected. Waiting for Tony to "step up" and pay is absurd at best. I will be old, crippled, and grey before these guys collect. Get to an attorney, get a frigging court order, get paid.

Your words of advice is nothing but true, and they (ones owed money)might also contact the City of Reno City/Washoe/Story County District Attorney, (not sure what count the property is located) and the Neveda Gaming Comission to find out if because the Event was held in Reno, and a Licensed Game Establishment if the authorities have any way to assist.

USPPA and non payment

Well, ya got me to comment once more. . . .lol

I agree that some legal action - or contacting authorities should be done.

BUT - it is not the Peppermill's responsibility!

They did all they were supposed to do for this event. (Poker table event added money etc).

To add them in any discussions OR legal action is not productive - and could be detrimental to future events.

Tony owes the money - go after him!

mark Griffin

PS - I think he owes the Peppermill money, too!

Well said Mark.

The last thing we need to do is make things more difficult for the good promoters and leagues who want to run their events

Since there is a lot of concern about effecting other people's business, it seems the best course of action is to admit loss. And not consider Tony or the USPPA as able to make good on their debt, ie consider them bankrupt.

Any support business people could have offered was in terms of making sure they protect themselves instead of help out. And that was obvious because people don't want to discuss the downside of business and that is when times aren't profitable and consequentially a full loss.

Some businesses make good on deals and others don't. When they fall it is more for the survivors to take.

Bump-o-matic

Just a bump for all the players that didn't get paid.

What a total bummer!

take him to court and make him pay - sweep it under the rug worrying about other peoples' business makes it easier for this to happen again. By court action it will make future promotors think about running something and not having the funds for payments.

This means that people should be productive and target the entities that had the most involvement in the event, like Tony. All other parties like the host of the event or the organization that runs the event shouldn't be targeted, because that would be a black eye on the organizations.

The reality of the situation seems to be that bad people do bad things on their own and that shouldn't effect the organization or businesses that they involved through the professional organization they worked for.

Instead of worrying about it happening again, like Mark said we just have to stay positive for the people putting money into the business because without them there would be nothing. We would just be a bunch of guys playing pool at a room for fun, without them. Or even worse pool players that don't cash in.

Fine but he did say go after Tony and that is what should be done - make him an example if you don't - it will happen again - You run a tournament and don't pay up you got to pay the piper.
