Vegas baby Vegas!!!

Rewards Club Card

Don't forget to sign up for your Rewards Club Card. And, remember to present it when gambling. If you do plan on gambling, set a limit, and don't break it. Also, pick up a book on the games you may try if you've never been before. It will give you stategies, and casino expectations. Have a great time, and congrats on being a Dad!

A 24 hr bus pass on the double decker deuces costs $7.
They will take you from one end of the strip and back. Good service as theres one every few minutes. From the Luxor you can go right downtown to Freemont St. Be sure to take in the laser light show on the canopy on Freemont. Starts every night around 11. Usually a cigar wagon there so grab a beer and a cigar (Dad). Usually some good cover bands playing, and lots to see.
Have fun!

What Jay said, and whatever you do - don't use the Casino ATMs their rake is more than gambling - you can't win.:(

If I see this guy at the blackjack table I'll just keep walking. I've done my fair share of gambling at Foxwoods, and learned that poker might have the best odds. I do like a little roulette and maybe a few hands of blackjack here and there. I've seen the movie "21" and just watched the Hangover so I should be allset. If you guys want to start a gambling/birthday fund and send it via paypal before I leave that would be great! :)

One thing not to do and yet everyone does - GAMBLE! It looks like fun (that's the whole idea) but it isn't much fun when you're busted and using credit cards and your ATM to get cash. One word of advice which is doubtful you'll heed - Leave all the casino games alone! They're for suckers!

Play some poker if you must. That's probably your best bet, but kind of a waste of time if you're there with your girl. Have fun, go to some shows, walk the strip, go downtown. Even the casino lounge acts are great. Lots of good music everywhere. Go to the lounges/bars, listen to some great music and have a ball. Your money will go much farther that way too.

Jay, this is the best advice i've read in this thread. Every time i've gone to Vegas except one lucky trip i've left most of my cash in the casinos. Those fancy hotels and casinos weren't built to hand out money, to the contrary, they were built to get your cash. I had a friend tell me one time that Las Vegas was built for people to spend money.

It's a great place to visit, but like Jay said you'd enjoy your trip more if you don't gamble in the casinos and spent your money on good food and shows and seeing the sights.

vegas too

Congrats on the kid....and Vegas trip.

I will be traveling there from the 21 - leaving the 25th so I will be in for only one night of your trip. I go 2-3 times a year.

Funny thing is my daughter is just turned 7 and this is my midlife crisis trip:eek: turning 40 on the 27th....

going solo just to go and do what I want when I want. left the wife and kids behind to have a wild time.

My $0.02 worth is just take it as it comes. try and pick a show that interests you - they are all pretty good and enjoy the experience. Golf is good, but like I can play at home (florida) and don't go to Vegas for that.

on a side note- Eric (can you hook me up with a ticket or 2) never know - might find a "friend" that wants to go see Carrot Top.....lol J/K

I saw him years ago when he was just starting on the college circuit in Florida at BCC College

When you check in at the Luxor request a Tower room. They are definitely nicer than the rooms in the pyramid, by a good margin. Worth it even if they cost a little more.

Vegas is not like it used to be. Everything now is a profit center. If the weather cooperates, one of the best ways to kill time, relax from the sensory overload that is Las Vegas, not spend money, and feel like you are actually on vacation, is to hit the pool for a few hours during the day.

I have neveer been to Vegas in January (first time next week) but I am thinking the pools are closed...... unless you are a polar bear:grin:

but there are plenty of sights to see during the day:
bellagio fountains
bellagio conservatory
mgm lions
:grin:carnival court for a drink:grin:

just to name a few......

True but it is so cool to look down on the lobby from the railing wayyy upstairs. Luxor is a unique hotel that way, where you can see down to the lobby from any floor. Disney World has a similar hotel, The Contemporary Inn.

The pools are heated at the large hotels. Have to be!

Imo

I have been three times and I have to tell you ,we had the most fun on Freemont Street .I also recommend going and drinking a nice cold adult beverage by the pool at the Golden Nugget !! The shark tank is the coolest pool I have ever partied at .
One other thing is check out the bus passes ,,alot cheeper than cabs,,spend that money on a few drinks !

A pool player telling someone not to gamble?

I have now, officially, heard it all!:(:(:(:(

Thanks for the link!!!

I like 17 the best

This one is self explanatory. Everyone in Las Vegas steals Mike's tiger at least once. Not only that, but we all get involved in hilarious hi-jinx while trying to return it. Don't be the only person to forgo this ritual. For bonus points, attempt this caper in a stolen police car while high on the fictitious drug known as Roofilyn. If you get caught, smile, pop a Mentos into your mouth and shout "What Happens Here Stays Here!". The cops will laugh and release you so long as you consent to be electrocuted in the genitals by a 12 year old boy.

You'd be surprised. Both by how warm it can get during the day but also by how cold it can get at night.

The fountains at the Bellagio are more spectacular at night. As for the carnival court, if you are talking about at the Rio, the hot ticket is to go to the bar at the top (The Voodoo Lounge I think). The views are something else.

As for entertainment, there is so much to choose from I would stay away from the typical review shows or song and dance stuff. Go see something more unique like BM Group or one of the Cirque shows. If you are going to see the volcano at the Mirage one evening then you might as well catch the outside show at the TI too.

When you leave the Luxor to do some hotel hopping, wear a good pair of walking shoes. Trust me, even if you are taking cabs to the front door of each property you will be hoofing it plenty. These places are enormous.

If you have a car you will be better off using valet than self park. Valet is free (couple of dollar tip is all) and it will save you a ton of trekking as the self park at all these places is a hell of a walk to the casino. The only issue with valet is if it is particularly crowded, or right after a show, it can take over a 1/2 hour to get your car sometimes. I don't think Vegas has been real crowded lately.

One more tip. As for hotel hopping on the strip, keep in mind when walking that generally speaking a hotel across the street is closer than one next door.
