I'm very excited to announce the release of the first DVD in an instructional series I've been working on with Tom Ross this past year. The series is called: The Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots. If you are interested in checking it out, I have a video trailer for the entire series near the bottom of the page here:

The first disc, which includes 1 hour and 27 minutes of video, covers basic shot making and position play. Video excerpts for a collection of shots from the DVD can be viewed online here:

Here's the outline of the entire series, and here's the complete list of shot categories included on Disc I. The series includes over 750 shot categories within 50 different major categories, with over 250 "gems" of the game. We think, and we hope you agree, that the series is the most comprehensive collection of useful pool shots ever published (and demonstrated).

I think Tom and I made a good team for this project because he is an experienced player, coach, and instructional columnist, and I have more skills on the understanding, illustration, and explanation side of things. I hope you guys like our stuff. We have worked really hard on this project ... months of planning, months of filming, and months of editing and production. It has truly been a labor of love.

Please check out all of the video clips online, and let us know what you think. Also, please help spread the word.

Regards,
Dave

Nice looking series of shots. If the detailed explanations are equal to the video, you have a WINNER here.

Good Luck...

Have any of you guys watched any of the clips yet? What do you think so far? I will post many more clips as I finish the remaining disks over the next few months.

I look forward to reading you comments and/or suggestions.

Thanks,
Dave

Were you not able to listen to the audio? The audio is there. Or were you referring to the descriptions on the DVD? All descriptions and video are similar to the examples posted, throughout the entire 1 hour and 27 minutes of Disc I (and on the other discs, which are not ready yet).

Good Luck...
Thanks.

Ceebee,

Since you were the first person to respond, please PM or e-mail me your address and I'll send you a free copy of the first DVD.

Thanks,

Nice job Dave! Very clearly explained and demonstrated well. I love the lines showing the different cut angles and the same CB path. Well done! This will be a great addition to any poolplayer's library of instructional material.

It looks real good Dave! I even learned something from the clips! They are well done, and I can't see anyone complaining about them. The average shooter should learn a LOT from them!
Thanks Neil. I would expect that many above "average" players might also learn a thing or two from our series. If that is not the case, Tom and I would certainly be disappointed.

That power draw video you posted a while back helped inspire me to practice and improve my stroke. Tom did most of the shooting on the tough shots in the series (because he is a top player with lots of tournament experience), but he let me try the power-draw shot since he knew I had been practicing. I nailed the shot on the first attempt. I doubt the result is acceptable under Spidey's standards, but Tom was impressed. Here it is:

Dave...Nice to see your stroke has improved! Also nice to see that you proved that, although you have to hit that shot VERY firm, you did not need (nor do) an exxagerated followthrough...just a normal finish, for your stroke template! Good job, and nice shot!

Unreal

WOW. That is some great stuff. I can't see how it can't help most people. The graphics, vocals, pace of production are perfect. Three thumbs up.

I'm not easily impressed and must admit that it is at times hard to follow your written monthly BD stuff. I'm extremely impressed and didn't feel like I missed anything.

You two have possibly put together the best pool DVD ever. I know it's going to be part of my library.

Paul........I'm shaking my head and saying WOW over and over.

This is a major accomplishment and should be a resource for every level of player for many years to come. I looked at the clips and am impressed. Congrats Dave and Tom! I think you've got a real winner.
:p

Checked out clips. I am impressed.Keep up the great work.
Thanks. Tom and I just finished the first draft of Disc II, so we hope to have it out within a month or so. I'll post a bunch of clips from each DVD as they become available.

Dave

Do you plan to make them available via download?
I haven't considered this option. I also don't know much about it. How does this work? Is this something I can do through iTunes or some other service that offers copy protection? Would I make a whole DVD a single download or break it up into chunks that people could pick and choose? What were you thinking?

Thanks,
Dave

Tom and I are very excited, and we hope people respond well to the series. We have put in a lot of work over this past year. Thank you for the encouragement and support.

Thank you Scott. That means a lot coming from you, given that we haven't always "related well" on the online forums in the past. I appreciate your supportive words.

Thanks. I did not drop my elbow one bit and I was able to easily generate the power needed, in a controlled fashion. Go SPF!

Tom and I had originally planned and filmed a whole DVD's worth of stuff on fundamentals (grip, bridge, stance, stroke), but we later decided to can all of this stuff since it is covered so much in so many books and DVDs (although, not as well as in your DVDs with Randy). Also, because our approaches to these concepts were often very different, it was difficult to decide how to present it in a way acceptable to both of us. Different strokes for different folks. I think that's actually one reason why we were a good fit to work on such a large project together. We often thought about things in totally different ways, and brought totally different experiences and perspectives to the table, allowing us to come up with creative, inclusive, and complete approaches, shots, and presentations.

Dave
