Video from 1979 Greenway Billiards in Baton Rouge, LA

I lived a few miles from Greenway back in that time. I never did go to their tournaments. Wish I had now. I did see Parica, Buddy, Keith, and no doubt quite a few more stars. As you know, Greenway was a hub of the pool world back then, wait long enough and almost any pool player would come through there. Danny Medina passed through, good fun when he was young!

Keith's hair looks like he's wearing a helmet, and that mustache. Hahahaha! Keith looks like he's been through a lot of road trips at action at a mere 20 years old. Wow!

Marlboro cigarettes, Master's chalk, and Brunswick tables. That's nostalgia right there.

The way they edited the pool playing in that video, it made it seem like I would have a shot to win that tournament. Every other shot shown was an easy miss.

The pockets on those old GC tables so big that today's players would be laughing. The game is so different today- everything evolves, becoming a top pro today requires a much higher skill level in every aspect of the game.

Some things harder, some things easier. Transport today's players back fifty or seventy-five years and they would look ridiculous trying to play on that equipment. They would look silly when their shots didn't even reach a pocket! Every aspect of the game included having a stroke with a cue so big you couldn't get your hand around it. A long rail bank required skill like today, but it required skill hitting with a force that would reveal falsity in some of today's strokes.

One thing, today's equipment, that from long ago, somehow the cream always manages to find it's way to the top. The greats would be great any era, and no matter what anyone thinks about equipment, nothing turns an also ran into a great.

Agree 100%. Champions of any era adjust to the equipment/conditions they are faced with.

Thats the first time I've seen you post anything that made sense... Guy

Best quote, "Just get down on your belly and play." -earthquake

But then again, I imagine you two could fill a book with stories and quotes. (hint, hint)

That was fun to watch. Surprised nobody mentioned that the Miz is playing with his famous “dove” Balabushka cue.
