For all you members of Onepocket.org, don't forget to vote in this year's Bank Pool and Onepocket Hall of Fame class. The voting will end in a couple of days.
Both categories are going down to the wire with three way races in each. In 1pkt, Allen Hopkins, Buddy Hall and Dick McMorran are in a virtual tie. In the Bank Pool, Buddy Hall, Nick Varner and John Brumback are also in a virtual tie. Every vote is important now.

If anyone is interested, I voted for Hopkins in the Onepocket and Buddy and Varner in the banks.

How can Allen Hopkins be in a tie with Buddy Hall and Dick McMorran in 1pkt? I always thought Allen was a click (or two) above either playing 1-hole for the cash.

He is/was Dave! back when I used to help run the annual 14.1 tourney at the cue corner, I sat and listened to all the top guys....Sigel, Rempe, Varner, Maidoff, Barouti, Calovito etc......they all said....well maybe not Sigel ;) said Allen was THE MOST avoided/ducked road player for more then a few years! They said all the road dogs made a very wide arch around Allen.

Hell, Allen won the 14.1, and the 9ball worlds in the same year right?....AND he was what? 19 or 20 years old? crazy!

I am lucky enough to be heading to Jersey Tuesday nite with a buddy to meet up with Allen. I'll ask for a few more road stories. He is the best to hang out with!

you know where my vote is going.

Each player provides a beautiful, and sometimes different, hue of color to the fabric of pool. It is truly difficult to compare players of various eras and regions of the country.

Some people feel that players they saw up front and close in their area are *the* best, never having seen players in other regions, not knowing how good they may be.

Some of the names on that list, I have never seen play pool; in fact, I have only read their name in the history books. There are no videos or Accu-Stat films of them playing pool because that technology didn't exist. Those who may have seen some of those players may be dead today. So how can somebody vote for a name on a list that they have no idea of their strengths?

The technology has come a long way and is helping to create a record, but these players from yesteryear, like Vernon Elliott as an example, are truly pool's unsung heroes. Their accomplishments, feats, and pool playing strengths may never been known by today's young'ns. So the younger folk will vote for who they know, and the older folk will vote for who they know, but is it balanced and fair? It's about as fair as it can get, I guess.

It is hurtful to read words that demean one player and elevate another, when every player on a list of prospective inductees are, indeed, lifetime members of the brethren of pool players. JMHO, FWIW.

For me, Hopkins and Worst are the most intriguing players of the past 50-60 years.
I watched Allen play in about 80-81 out in Vegas at the old Crystal Palace and never miss a ball. It was noisy crowded and lot's of distractions. Nothing rattled that man.
The next night they moved hm to the old Serene Room on a piece of crap bar table with the grapefruit. They were all so curious saying he couldn't play with the big ball. WELL, guess what, he never missed a ball. HE was playing Surfer Rodd for $1000 a game last pocket 8 ball. It was the best I ever saw Rod play!! He lost 22K!

I'll be happy when we come up with an 8 ball HOF. I'm voting for Bernie Friend!!

Hmmm

He was !! Hopkins has been in pool his entire life...ran over 100 balls at age 12 not too mention his numerous titles in 9ball, straight pool and 1P. He should be a shoo in for the 1P hall of fame !!

Please vote today if you are a verified member of one.pocket.org.....

I voted for San Jose Dick. He is a great player and in his prime he played top guys like Ronnie Allen, Jersey Red and others for real cash. He was a true die hard road player, not a nut hunting lock smith looking to hustle young punks like me. He played within one ball of Ronnie Allen in their primes! Dick is a humble guy and all class when it comes to who he has beaten and played. He beat Cliff Joyner on Accustats 10 years ago and he was in his 60's. He is featured more than any other player in Eddie Robin's one pocket book so pick one up and have a good read. Lenny----OUT! ;)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Hopkins gets in from here.
