***WARNING***DO NOT deal with blowfish16

Sorry to hear man...but seriously...he's been a member for only about a couple of months and you sent a gift paypal that can't get refunded? No escrow? I know it isn't much $, but still...maybe lesson learned here. Hopefully it all get's taken care of.

I knew I was making a risky decision when I gifted the money, but really, the $80 doesn't even bother me much at all. Heck, I waste more money than that in a week playing in APA leagues ;)!!! I am (or WAS) the trusting type. I can assure all that have posted that it won't happen again. Fool me once, shame on you........fool me twice, shame on me.

I just hope for Bob to be made right!!!

I have been a member of AZB for a long time but don't post very much. I have bought, sold and traded cues on here. This is a great place to buy and sell cues. It pisses me off that a few scammers are screwing it up for everyone. I won't send money or a cue to someone with no feedback/new member. If they do have POS itrader, I try to find out what the deals were. If they have a pos itraders but only bought some inexpensive items and then suddenly they are selling a cue for a few hundred, no way am I sending them money. I only have a 4 itrader but I am sure that everyone that I have dealt with would vouch for me and I have bought, sold and traded for some fairly expensve cues.

Solid approach and advice.

More bad news for a good az member.

Just have to use appropriate caution *every* time, *every* step of the way.

Hope it gets straightened out for you, Mr. Maniac.

Recently I had two offers to buy an item I had for sale. In both cases I told the prospective buyer that because they had no Itrader rating that I would only do it if they paid first. Oddly enough...neither ever responded.

Makes no sense to make a deal if you aren't ever getting paid.

As a newbie here I really think this SUCKS.I have been checking out AZ for a while now, only registered for about a month and a half and as you can see no trades and hardly any posts. I guess I take the time to look stuff up here before I just post something. This being said though brings me to the reason I have yet to do any trades. When I see these people that are ripping people off I feel there is pretty much no chance I will be able to make a transaction or sell something on the forum. Unfortunately, these people not only leave a bad taste for the people here who make honest trades and sales over and over but also effect others (like me) who have yet to make a trade or sale. People are now hesitant to deal with a newbie and I ,as a newbie, have NOT jumped in on a few things I would have otherwise made an offer on or bought because I dont want to be nailed either as I may have been if I had completed a deal without noticing the person I was going to sell a cue to had scammed a few before. Arent these people booted after the first time they screw someone?

This is what I don't get. If someone orders something from any online place, Amazon etc. You PAY FIRST, then they ship your product. Why would a buyer expect anything different here?

Jason just e-mailed me a USPS tracking number 23 numbers long and said let me know when you get the cue. Funny boy here. I told him if i didn't get the cue friday that he is toast.

Whats it comeing to here.

He contacted me about buying cues and he got the Sly J/b from me. I know he didnt spell well and wrote in broken english thru pm's. I made sure his money was in my paypal for days before I even shipped the cue because just the way he acted thru pm's and was thinking he may try to cancel the transaction once I shipped the cue. I even contacted paypal that time to make sure he couldn't pull his money back out after I sent the cue. Then he kept asking if I had any more expensive cues to sell and just something told me he was bad news and I never bothered contacting him back after the transaction. I hope whatever happends he does whats right and realizes its not worth it to scam someone. Hopefully he will read this and realize what a dick move he is doing and make good on all this,<< ED

I will send someone with no I trader, any amount which I'm ok with losing...60/80 bucks no problem...I treat it like gambling...I only gamble what I'm willing to lose...chalk it off to my entertainment fund.

Anything that would ruin my week, amounts in the hundreds or thousands...and I need to talk to the person...ON THE PHONE.
I FEEL LIKE YOU CAN GET A PRETTY GOOD HANDLE ON SOMEONE'S MOTIVES BY TALKING FOR A BIT.

if they spook me on the phone, acting weird, then it's ESCROW TIME.
I also take Itrader into account, and do a search on that persons name before committing to buy.

Haven't had a problem yet, knock on wood-done business with some SOLID great people on here-common sense prevails.

This kind of thing sucks, and could happen to anyone- hope he makes it right.

If I'm buying from somebody like that, they'd got to send the product first, plain and simple. It's just not worth the risk these days with so many scammers.

Sean, I've actually had a guy ship a Mobley to me first before payment as I didn't know who he was. Of course he was taken care by me right away.

But then again, I've had one seller (whom I've never dealt with) who got offended (it was for another Mobley cue) when I asked for his name, address and contact phone number. This deal was never consummated.

I've bought a bunch (and sold a little) in last 10 years and have never been scammed out of money (once on eBay but I got my credit card to reverse the charge). I ain't bragging or pressing my luck. I just want to say that I ain't the bright bulb around so it's possible with some due diligence and figuring out who to deal with. Often, I ask for some sort to mutual reference if I am not comfortable ... and I try to stick with dealing with good and known folks.

I just think if a newer member is not willing to send first to someone that has been a member for a long time with a good itrader, then they are likely trying to pull something.

Really? Why? Because they are smart enough to be worried about sending something expensive to somebody they met on an internet forum?

I think it's fine that people ask a new person to send the item first. I also thing it is EXTREMELY reasonable for them to refuse.

Use escrow if it really matters, but don't judge somebody for not wanting to send something without payment first.

High iTrader? I don't care. If one has a great iTrader that helps but it sure does not mean they are a saint.

Picture a conversation with your best friend or your brother. Let's say they are telling you they met somebody on an internet forum and sent the person a $1500 cue without payment. What would you be thinking?

OK, now picture the same thing but this time, best friend or brother, they refuse to send the cue without payment. What would you be thinking? Are you thinking they want to pull something? I didn't think so...

Why is it that when it is somebody you don't know you suspect they are likely going to pull something?

I once had an AZER send me 11 cues worth thousands for my inspection. He said choose what you want and send the rest back. Of course, we talked on the phone 1st and he had my home address. BTW, this was for a trade!
My requirement now is simple, if you want to me to send you money or a cue...I will need your phone number and your home address. I use veromi.com to verify identities. If you are unwilling to verify the identity of the person you are going to deal with, you have no one to blame but yourself when you get burned!
I also use Paypal and have never got burned, here or on ebay! Of course, you don't need veromi to verify my identity...just type my name in Google or Bing (Randy Pollak)!
Anyone who is unwilling to provide their address and phone number is hiding something!
We are a community here, and weeding out the scammers is imperative!

Is it me or have you guys also noticed that lately there has been a lot of post from new people selling really nice cues with 0 itrader,,

Seems to me that every day I'm seeing more new people listing sweet cues, Does not make sence if some one ownes a exspensive nice cue and playes pool or is selling, Why they have not been here long before they make there first post selling big money cues. HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMM

When I do a successfull transaction with some one, I put them on my friends contact list, The only people I will do business with are people on my list or Long standing menbers who have a great rep.....

I will always bend over backwards to make a person happy, Here on AZ it's very simple, Your rep is everything here, Do the wrong thing ,say the wrong thing, Screw some one, and your dead in the water for life.

IMO, there should be a sticky up top that explains in great detail how not to get stuck in deals done here, both as a buyer *and* as a seller.

Not just a suggestion to use an escrow service (a great idea, btw) when dealing with cues or anything above a certain dollare amount but I mean a comprehensive guide on how to conduct biz while enjoying as much protection as possible.

Where's that sticky? :idea2:

I'm really happy that I was able to conduct my first purchase yesterday and it went pretty flawless so far. I haven't actually received the shaft I purchased yet but did already get a tracking number.

Since I'm new to the board I paid through paypal with my Amex card right away and the member I'm dealing with has a positive 2 iTrader rating but has also only been around a month or so like me. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping everything goes smooth and as planned. However if it doesn't Amex is usually pretty good about refunding money to it's members. So I tried to safeguard myself in as many ways as possible.

I can certainly understand why there is doubt around dealing with 'new people' some of us are good guys though.
