Was Beaten By Man With An Ove Glove & Fiberglass Stick...

OK...so exactly what brand of cue was it? :embarrassed2:
.

I was too dazzled to take note. Next week I will attempt not only to get an answer, but maybe even pics.

You're not gonna need a pic from under the bumper, are you? :)

Probably tired of spending good money on gloves and having them spring holes in a week or two.

I'm thinking of going to a welding glove

I'm going all the way. It's a gauntlet for me.

On Tuesdays there is an 8b practice league that I play in that usually attracts between 40-50 players. It's a fun format with races to 1 with teams selected by computer based on everyone's averages.

A new guy came yesterday and he was wearing what appeared to be an Ove-Glove on his bridge hand. I remember them from infomercials some years ago.

In addition to that glove; he was shooting with a fiberglass cue with a metal ferrule and what sounded like a phenolic tip.

He kicked my ass.

I know it was a race to 1 and anything can happen but I've made up my mind and it's final...

I'm not going pro. :o  :o

That's a really funny story!

About 10 years ago there was a player I knew who shot with a Cuetec Earl Strickland model cue (fiberglass). He was absolutely convinced it was the greatest cue ever made, and would make that point several times every night of playing. If it wasnt the best, then Earl wouldn't use it, was his line of reasoning. The sheer fanatical conviction he had in his belief was actually hillarious, but I and others suffered defeats at the hands of this guy. At the time he was a really strong B player. I haven't seen him since, but if he still plays, you'd better believe that he does so with a javelin, assweights and earmuffs!

Moderators please lock this thread before Earl sees it :-)

Some people seem to hate it when an old thread gets resurrected, but as a newer member I enjoy these pearls of wisdom dug up from the bowels of AZB.

I am sad that I will never know the true answer to the poser question.

how could this be? has to be untrue.

first off that ferrule will squirt too much and he cant make a ball.
and certainly not a low deflection shaft.
and no kamui tip or moori

to make up for all of that he must of had a 20 dollar piece of chalk.

I lost to a guy with one arm once. He held the table until everybody but me left and I decided to give it a try.

Wow, very strange looking glove to be using for pool. Any thoughts as to why? I guess maybe because that was the only glove he had, and he needed it to shoot with the fiberglass shaft. Funny story though.

It is a race to 1 though. Shane Van Boening could have lost to the same guy.

What the hell is a "practice" league?

I assume it is a an experiment, to see if it would be popular among the players.

Maybe it was a Round Robin, where all players play each other a game, and they get points for wins.

Maybe it was a Singles experiment league.

Whatever you do for a living now is almost certain to pay more than pro pool player.

So, worse case scenario is that your team loses and you had an afternoon of pool for $6.50.

If your team wins, it cost $1.50.

Sounds like a good business plan for a pool player.
