Way Too Mamy Free Ads

:) What?.... this will eliminate seeing Avatars? and Signature lines.. for all that post in any section of AZ Billiards Forums?

Gee...if you have a dialup modem connection and don't have to download the avatar and signatures wouldn't that make it QUICKER?

How do all these people handle all the different channels on TV? there must be some kind of decision making process they follow at home on what to watch.....or do they just tune into AZ TV?

Mr. Aunty Dan... me thinks you ask too much.... :)

Also note you can simply disable seeing both Signature and Avatars in your User Profile.

lmao... what brand guillotine would you recommend? Do you have a top five? We don't want a mess from some cheap brand getting all over my Simoniz 860, the greatest pool table cloth ever made, imho.

Ugh, you just made me throw up a little in my mouth by using that disgusting phrase. As far as I'm concerned dial-up is just ancient horror like the Boogey-man that you threaten the children with if they don't eat their greens or brush their teeth. ;-)

And yes, I'm sure I am expecting far too much for people to actually use the options provided to them already instead of complaining about it.

No, I do not favor closing that. A wanted/for sale (classifieds) section is commonplace on any internet forum for member to buy/sell/trade stuff.

I was only speaking of the Main Forum section.

Me <---------------------hates it when words are put in his mouth! :nono:

Thanks for your clarification of your post CCC.

I'm perplexed....

I hope I contribute to the forum. I check out the threads and respond to many of them. Yes, I have a photo in my signature - maybe some think it is spam. I did join the fourm and am a club member.

While I am new, I have learned a lot here. I personally like seeing photos in the signature section or links to business' . This lets me know a little about you and you a little about me.

My image needs to be resized and I will do that soon.

I have to say that most everyone I've met here on this fourm have been very nice and helpful with me, the rookie...

Just like TV - Well Even Better than TV

You can turn the signatures off.

Under thread options you can elect to not see avatars, signatures, or images.

See the attachment.

Now the last thing I want to say about this is this. You all know that the billiard industry is small. You all want to see it grow.

In fact 95% of the businesses in the billiard industry are mom and pop operations.

Why do we begrudge them for using a free forum to post ads in their signatures? Some of those mom and pops have grown to the point where they can afford to place regular ads. Others offer all kinds of free stuff to the membership.

Are we a community or aren't we. Seriously. If Johnny Archer were to post here then NOT ONE OF YOU would begrudge him advertising lessons in his signature. Why? Because you want the knowledge and experience that is in his head.

I have been a part of this business for 20 years. Have been playing pool for around 25. I think that I share a lot of my experiences with the community for community good. If you don't think that me spending time with you is worth allowing an "ad" in my signature then perhaps this forum is better off without any of the business people in the industry participating. There are very few of us who can fade the "heat" anyway and want to participate. It's my opinion that you should welcome the few that do and not worry about their "ads" as long as they are contributing to the overall knowledge.

I will gladly leave this forum. My wife and everyone around me would be happy if I spent less (or no time) here. If it's the consensus of the forum that business people should not be allowed to tell people what their business is in their signatures then I don't need to be SPENDING my time contributing to the forum. They say time is money and I have INVESTED a lot of time into this and other forums.

So, you tell me.

Thanks a lot, Johnnyt, for this thread. I should red rep your a$$ - I never noticed them until now!! :p

Spamming

Spamming is annoying.

Good advertising is entertaining. It embraces our emotions. It teases our basic wants, needs and desires.

I like a good ad. Who hasn't watched an entire show about the Superbowl commercials?

I love the Alltel commercial with Chad and the Wizard having dinner!! I LMAO every time I see it!!:rotflmao1:

Ray

Watch it now!

Well.....I think that there are some advertisers who contribute to the forum in a positive manner other than providing products for sale however, I think that ANY advertising in the Main Forum should have a higher advertising cost than in the regular For Sale section.

Those advertisers who participate in the Main Forum discussion in a positive manner do so because (at least its what I believe) they enjoy the forum for what it provides and the enjoyment that they get out of regular communication with other forum members.

I actually make an effort to help certain business people who have a positive impact on the forum to advertise their products. Some of the advertisers are a big positive for the Main Forum. Others are simply parasitic and contribute very little if anything to the Main Forum.

Bottom line: Signatures, avatars are any other communication on the main Forum should cost a premium to advertise a business that is a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS. If you're just giving your product away then God Bless You!

I sell printing and promotional products to other businesses. (JoeyA trying to get in under the wire) :woot: :D :D

The Fiat Mamy; a Panda for eco-conscious moms

You know that Europeans have the option to use minivans with decent mileage to haul around their children but still, for just a child or two on those tight and narrow streets, one might want something smaller, no? How about a Fiat Panda adapted for a mothers' needs? Fiat has a new model called the Fiat Mamy (read it like "mummy"), which is fitted with specific equipment for mothers: an additional rear view mirror to check out the kids in the back seat, hooks in the trunk to hold bags or rucksacks, washable upholstery, extra door pockets, anti skid floors and funky exterior paint such as eggplant and orange. And before you think this is a sexist post, I agree: we dads could use some of these features too! Regarding powertrains, the Panda can use the existing 1.2-liter gasoline or the impressive 1.3 JTD diesel which get around 5.5 l/100 km (more than 42 mpg U.S.). Prices start at ?10,600 in Spain.

Hmmm...tough call

I haven't posted much on here, but I do read and follow a lot of the threads and I have found so much useful information and entertainment. From my point of view I have a hard time deciding where the line should be. There are posters that have a lot of different information in their sig lines, avatars and even their titles. Where do you draw the line? Is saying such-and-such cue is the best in the world advertising? Is posting a link to your business or favorite website advertising? Is including a picture of a product or service you sell advertising? Is posting a picture of some hot chick's rump advertising? Well, that one I know, but I'm just saying, I'd rather see a SMALL ad for a POOL-BILLIARD product than somebody's rear end or cleavage or two chicks (or dudes) fondling each other. JMHO

I gotta say that I am with John on this one. TAR was started here because I was doing updates and photos for free and people seemed to like it so I thought "There might be a need for this type of thing" and a few other people agreed and we put time and money into making it happen.

I guess my point of view is that it is symbiotic. Because we were able to reach people here we were able to create matches and events that never would have happened if we had to pay up front for ads. At the same time people here would never have gotten to see pretty cool things many of them for free. While we gain value from the forum we also add value to the forum. I wonder if paying a couple a $100 a month for banner is more valuable than the traffic and interest from all the action things? If it is decided that an advertiser adds more to the forum I and our business does then we will just have to make some choices.

I can see now that I shouldn't have made this a blanket statement. I really didn't know you could turn the sigs off. There are a lot of good people on the main forum that have a small sig about their business that I and many others here enjoy reading. So I see there is a Grey area here. Glad I'm not Mike. Johnnyt

Johnny, I totally agree with you, and I said so many times, in fact I even started a thread similar to this one. But, I found out quickly that the forum owner and Moderators will not enforce this policy, because they will lose membership. I think anyone who uses the forum as their advertising vehicle for profit or other financial gain should pay the forum for advertising.

Many of these same people also have not purchased Club membership either. This is in no way a dig or a knock against those who can't afford, my comments are only directed at those who are after personal gain and nothing else.

However, until those who have the power decide that this is in their best interests, were all just pissing in the wind, and no changes will be made.

Good Post Johnny, I really like your thoughts on this matter.

I don't see anything wrong with people putting that stuff in their sig or page. It is easy enough to ignore, and I would think that we would want to support each other as a community. If I need something that someone here offers, I would just assume get it from them. These ads are easy enough to ignore when reading posts.

Oh hell, just shoot me. It was a bad thread. Johnnyt

No, it's a good thread. There have been opinions stated for both sides. I personally think that sigs should be limited in size -- when the sig is consistently larger than the content of the post, that's a bit much. And they should be limited in commercial content too. If the sigs start to compete with the paid advertising, they should go.

The overall attitude and contributions of the poster has a lot to do with how others receive sigs too.
