Weirdest Stroke?

I played with Mike Davis' running partner last some cheap pool and was watching Mike's stroke on the table beside us. Man, if I didn't know him, I'd probably jump all over him. That is a weird stroke. But, it gets him there. Who has the weirdest stroke, or most unorthodox, that you have ever seen? McCready's sidearm cracks me up also.

When I first saw Efren (Caesar Morales) play, I thought who is this sucker. After one tournament, I found out who the sucker was. ME!

Yes, Mikes' stroke looks unusual but I've seen a similar stroke from a fella in San Diego.

Keith got his stroke from starting as a youngster when the pool table was higher. He shares this stroke with Ralph Greenleaf, Willie Hoppe and his Southern California rival, King Kong.

Oh yeah.

I rock my stroke and jump a little after contact on tough shots, but Efren?! He might line up with bottom, and use top-left. Works just a little for him, though, doesn't it?

I noticed a few years ago that Buste does that. He aims at the bottom left of the CB on his practice strokes and raises his tip to whatever part of the CB he intends to hit on the delivery!

I suppose if my stroke were that fluid that I wouldn't find it difficult to do either.

The weirdest stroke, huh?

That's getting a little personal, isn't it, because the weirdest stroke I have ever seen is mine!

I always thought I had a conventional stroke until I saw a tape of myself. Good Lord, it looked like an unfolding lawn chair! My stroke gives Mike Davis's and Keith's the 7 ball.

To add insult to injury, the other night at the pool room, a young man can up to me and introduced himself as Rick Morales. I told him I used to play with a guy by the same name.

He said, "I know. That's my father." He told his dad had neck surgery five years ago and couldn't play anymore.

Then, he said, "My father told me if I ever ran into ol' CHICKEN WING to say hello for him."

Before I read the post and just saw the title, I thought Mike Davis; thought it was funny when I opened the thread and saw that it was about him. I think Allen Hopkins has a weird stroke too; never thought anybody could have such a short swing.

nick hickerson

if you have never seen nick play its a miracle he play as well as he does.the way he holds his stroking arm is unreal.it looks like he learned to stroke while hanging on to a five gallon bucket.

Ive spent years trying to develop the "Perfect Stroke" Then I realized Hey, what if I just go with what comes natural, Since then Ive played much better. It that then looks weird to people, then you know you proboly wont have any trouble finding a game.. :)

I don't think the table was higher back then, I think Keith was lower. :D

From all accounts a gentleman from Seattle / Tacoma Washington had one of the oddest strokes ever. The guy's name was Whitey "Tacoma Whitey" Michaels. Many of the old timers most likely know of, or have heard of him, he was a World Class player and real nice guy to boot. People use to Marvel that he could even make balls with his Pump handle stroke, from all accounts it was truly outrageous. His arm would be going this way and that until he made contact with the cue and then it was smooth, fast, and loose.

Tacoma Whitey, is deceased now but I am certain that he is banging balls with the best of them in that big pool hall in the sky!!!!!!!!!!!

The All Time weirdest stroke award goes to..........

CISERO MURPHY!!! You had to see it to believe it. He held his cue way back at the end of the butt. On the final stroke he would take the cue way back up in the air and...STOP....he would hesitate for one full second, waggle the cue around a little and then come down and thru the cue ball. AND NEVER MISS A BALL!!!

Like I said, you had to see it. Ask any oldtimer who saw him play. Tell 'em Lucky, you know what I'm talking about. You too Freddie or Grady.

I never realized their was anything wrong with it till...

I gotta agree with you on this one. And when he takes his practice strokes, it's 100 mph. It looks like he's trying to start a weedeater or something. He plays very good though, just looks a little funny.

I believe that Cisero referred to it as the "Cobra Stroke", sort of coiling around at the top.......hesitating......and striking.....totally the weirdest stroke I ever saw. Does admitting I've seen him play make me an "oldtimer"?

Cisero Remembered

Now that I think about it. Cisero's hesitation and wiggling around at the top of his backstroke was due to the fact that he was regripping the butt of the cue, nothing smooth like a slipstroke, but a complete stop and then his fingers would start adjusting on the butt until he had it just between thumb and forefinger, and then he'd stroke the ball. I always thought it was a hustle, something to keep your mind occupied while he was running out all over you.
