What book to get now?

Practicing Pool by Capelle is a good book to have.

What I consider an absolute must is Modern Pool by Ralph Eckert. He is one of the greatest billiard coaches worldwide and his book proves that. I own several books on pool (about 15) and this is the best one by far.

I didn't put that on the list because it's expensive when and if you can find it.
Also, Billiards, Hustlers and Heroes, Legends and Lies, and the Search for Higher Truth on the Green Felt by John Grissim. The last time I saw this on Ebay it was $275.00.
Fensch (The Lions and the Lambs) you might be able to find for under $100.

Grissim (Billiards) is easier to find and not usually that high on Ebay. The last several I've noticed went for about $30-$40.

I have extra copies of both.

I have a book on fishing called Mastering Baiting. I'm sure its not anything like Mastering Pool.

But considering you listed Pool Wars, I would strongly suggest Danny Basevich's book, Running the Table. When you get to the end, you'll wish the book was twice as long.

And if that interests you try Confessions of a Pool Hustler by our own Bobby Cotton.

99 Critical Shots should be everyones shelf.

Pool Wars will be in my stocking this Christmas, I'm sure. I asked for it last Christmas and instead I got this stupid coffee table pool table.
I'm sure it was just a joke present. I played with it for 5 minutes and it went back in its box.
Its for sale if anyone wants it. 5 bucks. It might be good for practicing those Venom Trick Shots. It also comes with 2 ebony/maple full spliced cues. Just the right size if your GI Joes want to have a game.

Bob,
When I saw the one for $275 it was the lowest of three. That was some time ago and I haven't looked lately.

Got many books and DVD’s and out of the ones you don’t have I would pick:

Henning’s Advanced Pro-Book (way better than the Pro-Book)
Everything you need on creating a solid routine and much more.

Capelle's Play Your Best Pool is nice.

As for DVD’s

DR Dave’s Encyclopedia of Pool Shots

For entertainment

Confessions of a pool hustler by Robert LeBlanc is a good read but nothing about his book is instructional.

I feel that "The Science of Pocket Billiards" by Jack Koehler is a very good read.

I didn't see anyone mention them, and they are very game specific. But, if you are into one pocket you should look at Winning One Pocket and Shots Moves and Strategies, both by Eddie Robin. These are the most comprehensive pool books I have ever come across.

They are definitely not cheap, but even with the cost, they are a steal for the amount of information they contain.

Good advice!

Each of Ralph s books are excellent!
With Modern Pool from Eckert, 99 critical shots from Ray Martin and Mastering Pool from G. Fels you will have 3 *must-have-books* in your house. And so much to practice then :p lots of knowledge for sure!

Practicing Pool from Capelle is also nice- good stuff to practice.

Indeed a book that announces to change the perspectives of coaching pool, Lee Brett has something special and I'm looking forward to his book.
Hope that he has it ready until Christmas, it will be a nice gift for any pool enthusiast ;-)

Any suggestions? Feel free to suggest your own book if you have one. I know there is a few that I wanted but cant think of it off the top of my head so help me out! Please!
A good list of "must-have" pool books, with brief descriptions, can be found here:

I particularly like this list because of the book at the top of the list.

Dave
