There is more to winning than just technique. Mental strength, shot selection, break all play a part. for example there are tons of excellent golfers, possibly technically as good as Rory or Tiger but only a few that have the ability to win.

btw Ronnie modeled himself on Steve Davis.

WOW, really, please tell us more  But that is exactly what PJ failed to understand.... 99.9% of the folks on AZB do not want to be, or do not have the time, skills or patience to be World Champions......

Folks just wanna get a little better, see some imporvement, and enjoy the game a little more, and see if they can win the next match at league. But you guys think everyone is here to be a champion, and then "heckle those who dare offer it advice from the very same champions.....

Guys like PJ are upset because the "advice" is not up to their standards, as if they "made" stuff up on how to shoot, how to aim, how to stand.....

There are more than one way to teach and learn something.... Look at major league baseball, many diff stances, many diff approaches to the plate...

If Ichiro Suzuki was on a baseball site giving "hitting" tips, I can't imagine he would get "lit" up.... even though his hitting style is very unorthodox, and obviously it works for him since he will be a first ballot HOF'er... If you don't wanna do it "his" way, I would think folks would just click out of the forum, not call Ichiro a "no good hack" trying to decieve little kids of their lunch money.

That is the part I don't understand..... If you have a better way then offer it up, but to say someone elses way is bad or "dishonest" is completely over the top, and should NEVER have been allowed here to begin with....and quite frankly, he got away with it for MUCH too long.

I agree there is no need to be overly critical and run them off but john you seem like a pretty smart fellow and surely you have to agree some of the utter nonsense that has been spouted needed to be challenged.

I don't have to agree with that at all. You see it's terms like "utter nonsense" that are themselves fighting words. A person comes on here with their perspective and they get attacked. Is that really the right way to go about it.

Example, CJ said that being x-amount off center makes the ball deflect x-amount over x-distance. Instead of asking for clarification Pat assumed that CJ meant that cueball deflection. CJ actually meant that being off on the cb hit could throw the object ball that far off line. And it IS 100% true that you can throw an object ball off off a center to center line with an off center cueball hit by more than half the width of the table over a 7ftish distance. In other words you can line up center to center down the middle of the table and make the object ball in the corner by throwing it in.

So if you can do that INTENTIONALLY then you can certainly do it unintentionally. And instead of being part of the conversation and seeking clarity Pat just jumped down CJ's throat accusing him of spreading lies because CJ wasn't up on the latest CB-Deflection charts.

I mean here is a guy who comes here with the goal of sharing his approach to playing pool and his method of staying on center ball and instead of embracing that and trying it out Pat immediately discounted it as nonsense.

I absolutely don't have to agree that anything a pro says is "utter nonsense". What I do think is that if someone takes exception to anything anyone says then they can certainly use an approach that is conversational and not confrontational.

You have me at a disadvantage as I do not have a catalog of Pats posts, but if you don't consider mystical pie charts and druid chanting nonsense then I am sorry I misjudged you.

I have no idea what you mean about mystical pie charts and druid chanting.

Apparently we are not talking about the same thing.

I am talking about playing pool.

Then you need to go back and read some of the threads CJ posted to get an idea where some of this got started.

I'm thinking that no one should be worried what the forum is gonna be like without PJ, as it appears we have someone ready to take his place.

29 guys telling everyone how to think and muzzling those they don't agree with.

Once again... I have to repeat myself and say no one is muzzling anyone based on whether or not they agree. I'm just saying if you disagree, do it with some class and without the ass hat on. It's easy to get into a healthy debate without implying the person you're debating is a pinhead or scamming people.

You seem to think you're checking the unchecked, but you're only defending people's right to be disrespectful to pros for no good reason. Disrespectful and disagreeing are two things entirely. If someone is having fun bashing and trolling a pro, they shouldn't be muzzled, they should be banned.

I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree then on where "it" all started.

And I suppose you are referring to CJ responding to the heckling with images expressing his opinion of the heckler's statements?

Imagine for a moment that things had gone a different way and the critics had attempted to speak to CJ with civil dialog? I bet it would all look much different with a lot less posts and certainly no aggression.

I simply correct the misinformation you spread, CJ. As you've discovered (to your profit) many here are unable to see past your semi-celebrity status and snappy infomercial patter without somebody like me pointing out your factual errors. Of course the Forum Fanboys mostly don't care to see, but other readers might...

Someone who can play, and is therefore worth listening to.

Sorry.

My gut is more basic than that.

What I hear is "Look at me!!!! I know something too!!" and then when they don't get the pat on the back they're craving.......

are you serious, grown men seriously talking about "squirt ratios".

Nah-- kind of like:

Hanging out on Porn Star Island and every time a helicopter drops off the woman of your dreams, a crew of azzes next to you insults her to the point where she swims away, choosing to risk getting killed by a shark than to EVER return to the island again. Eventually, one makes it back to shore and tells the rest of the porn stars around the world to NEVER EVER take the helicopter ride to that island EVER again.

In the end, you have a bunch of guys WISHING porn stars would show up since "that's why they're on Porn Star Island" and whatnot. However, that same crew of azzes make it their job to scare them away; thus ruining it for everyone.

The ironic thing is the crew of azzes clearly NEVER got any in their entire life (unless they paid for it), but for SOME reason they're the experts on having sex as long as the porn stars are forced off the island. After many years of being porn-star-less, people forget why they stopped showing up and over time the crew of azzes become the local sex experts--- you name it: positions, boobs, kissing, enlargement pills --- these guys know it ALL and people believe them. However, nobody ever saw them in any pornos. Whenever confronted about that, they say "BAH - you don't need to be in a video to clearly know I'm right about everything having to do with sex!"

If that happens, why call it Porn Star Island to begin with? Might as well call it the Azz Crew Island.

Hopefully that makes a little more sense than your strange China/Communist analogy.

I get your point of the analogy, however, can we change it to "dropping off the man of their dreams to a island filled with beautiful women?" :groucho:

I urge anyone to go back and see when pjslasher was attacking me, saying I was this and that and I started posting pictures. Posting funny pictures instead of responding to their childishness was the best way to handle the situation. They never have anything positive to say, and I could see that right away.

The best "weapon" against bitter people is using "sense of humor," they really have a difficult time because they want to laugh.....and of course they don't know how to take a joke, just dish out sarcasm.

When you see the context that the pictures and verbiage was posted you will clearly see it was humorous. Did they see the humor? Of course not, they were to busy trying to think of ways to discredit me and "take back their forum" so they could continue to post stimulating posts about pendulum/piston stroking and spin/deflection ratios and 35.134* angles ....not to mention "squirt"....are you serious, grown men seriously talking about "squirt ratios".

I can't even use that "technical pool term" with a straight face. Go back and look for the post where I advised using more "manly terms" than squirt, I think I went over several - Squowerful - Squintense - Squirtacular - Etc. and pjslasher, if you're reading this: DO NOT CLICK SQUIRT PIC.

As I perused these aiming threads and reading the posts of the banned individual, my mental image is of Sheldon Cooper lecturing the members of the MOSCONI CUP teams on how they are all doing it wrong.
