I do not know much about newer Meucci Cues.... could be true. I have a Gambler from 1990 that is straight as an arrow and hits well. Dont care for Meucci shafts, never shot with a DOT shaft they came out with since then, but I'm guessing they are pretty much the same feel.... rubbery and inconsistent (just my experience).
Mezz makes an exceedingly well-made cue and it hits very solid. I put their cues on par with Tiger Cues... Tigers are around them same price as the lowest priced Mezz Cues and hit solid with good feedback especially with the XL pro shaft.
McDermott is likely the safest bet in my opinion for a solid Cue for little cash. I own a D-19 that has served me well for a long time and hits just as good today as it did when I got it. I also have a newer G501 with the G-Core Shaft and a got a Predator Z shaft for it as well. Nice Cue, precision instrument with the Z Shaft on it.... takes a bit to get accustomed to a Z-shafts tricks and temper.
Ive been through a few cues... Huebler, Joss West, Richard Black, Adams, Corsair, Helmstetter, Timmy Scruggs. My favorite cue ever is an old Predator 8-point semi-sneaky-pete with a tiger XL shaft on it. Hits like a weapon of mass destruction and can dance with grace when I need to look like I dont have anger issues.
Go with what feels right and strokes your ego to a cozy level.... there-in lies paradise.
