What cuemaker would you have do a Titliest Conversion?

Hey all. I can get my hands onto two old school Titliest blanks.
I was tinkering with the idea of having one of them converted. I was just
wondering who you would recommend to do the job. I'm not looking for the
greatest resale value here. I'm just looking to get the best bang for my buck,
and not wait years to get it.:o

By the way, in your opinion, what would be a fair price to pay for these?

Thanks for your time. Dom.

Here's what I have to work with:

Update: Well, I took a good luck at both of the Blanks. One of them had a bunch
of cracks in the handle. About 5 or 6 of them, and they were about 6 to 9 inches
long. You can see a few of them in the top cue in the picture of the butt section.
I did hit the side of the cue, and there was no buzzing or noises of any kind. Are
these just surface cracks, and can they be sanded out? I don't want to buy it if
it's not a blank that can be converted. Thanks all.

I will tell you the truth what you should do;

Sell both titlists as they are now. Folks are paying stupid amounts of money for them. (If you can get for $200 OR LESS they would be a good buy to sell again)

If you want one, just buy one of the thousands that are already converted for less than what you will have in one if you have it converted....

Years ago you could get titlists for nothing and get them converted. Now you can sell them. Have a cuemaker buy a new blank or make one that is 100 times better than doing the conversion.

Finished Titlist cues sell for $600-1000 on here all the time, IMO, that is what you are going to pay for a conversion and then have titlist that you could have sold going into it. One for a little more money was an AE converted ebony titlist that someone on here had that was just beautiful. But it seems it didnt sell quickly either, and might still be available. IF I was wanting a titlist, I would be looking that one up.

Checkers sells better than chess.

Thanks Ken, I appreciate the input. I think half the fun is in the build. I've only had a few cues made so far, and I'm not the most patient guy out there. The few guys that I had in mind to do the conversion are very busy, and I'm looking at waiting a while. BTW, I still haven't purchased these. I'm wondering what a fair price on both would be. What would you venture a fair price would be? Thanks again.

In my opinion, you can't get a bigger bang for the buck than Joe Callaluca. Joe makes a great playing cue, reasonably, and fast. Joe C on azb. One of the cues I keep going back to is a Bear blank that Joe converted for me, really a great playing cue that I will never sell, and he's one of those guys that will do what ever you want, check him out, you'll be glad.

If you can buy one $200 or less.

If you can buy two for $350 or less.

Otherwise I wouldnt mess with them.

I used to enjoy having cues built but my latest experience with Showman and others have ruinned the fun, and I will just stay mostly on the secondary market.

So I understand your desire to work with a cue maker. In the past I could do that and then eventually sell on secondary market making money or breaking even. Now its a loser. But as long as you accept it, thats cool too.

Now I get excited about seeing the bargin basement prices on cues that 10 years ago sold for thousands more than they sell for currently.

I am thinning my herd.

As far as who I would use? Its a no brainer for me.

Rick Howard, but thats just me. He did one for $take_horse here on AZ that was incredible for not much on the money. Again, my advice is not to tie up alot of money in them. Previously, premire cuemakers conversions came with premire money on market. That isnt the case as much now.

I wish you the best of rolls my friend,

Now, that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you sir. I really appreciate it.

I will definitely keep Joe in mind if I decide to do a conversion. Thank you sir.

Call Steve Klapp. He has done one for me, two more currently, 2 for a buddy, and 1 currently for a dealer. Flawless comes to mind.

to me the value changes a good bit based on measurements of cue.

They key measurement is diameter at 29" from the bottom. This determines if you can convert it and have a standard joint size.

if its .86 or larger, the blanks are worth about 300
If its .83 or smaller, the blanks are worth about 200.

This is all IMO. I would be a buyer if they are of the larger variety.

Thanks Ian, I'll measure them up when I see them. I'll make sure to take the calipers and the tape measure. Much appreciated.

True if you are planning on full splice. (ie no wrap)

If you using it as a short splice there are more options. (you are okay with a wrap)

Even when I am going with a wrap I want those sizes. I prefer the points low on a converted titlist, not pushed all the way up the forearm where you can see the bottom splice.

Mike Pancerny did my last one and did an excellent job. You may want to check with him. I have one that he did posted on here if you want to search for it to see.

Aloha.

Lomax has done some of the best conversions I have seen.. IMHO.. He even made one of his Jumpers out of a titlist that was too small in diameter to convert into a player... It was off the hook =)
