What Cues And Why ?

There are quite a few cue makers mentioned consistently in the wanted/for sale section. There seems to be some who are almost non existent. I realize some makers have minimal output while others are into production. Extremely rare and valuable cues unconsidered, what are the cues players hang on to regardless ? Is there a cue you own you wouldn't sell for any price ? Why ?
 
I tell people to never sell their very first playing cue...or any of their playing cues. Most people don't go through 10 pool cues in a lifetime.

Reason why...just for the memories and could be a collector's item after time.

Or...pass it down to the grandkids.
 
My Jeff Olney cue isn't going anywhere. It just seems like it's the first cue I've had that fells like it was tailor made for me (it wasn't by the way). A couple other guys off the top of my head that people seem to hang on to more than most are Mike Webb, Dan Dishaw and Mike Capone.
 
it seems the cues ppl hang on to regardless are:
Mottey
Szamboti
ginacue
blackboar
tascarella
balabuska
scruggs
tibbits

the list is probably so much bigger.. but these are probably some of the most disired cues... the only thing is alot of people tend to buy them and cant afford to keep them so they sell them.. but at the same time, that a good reason to have one.. because if you needed cash in a hurry, you can always count on getting top dollar for most of these.. and there is usually a line of people who want to buy them..

also it seems like they come up alot for sale here on az.. but there are deffinatly alot more people who refuse to ever sell them..

I have a Ricco cue that I will not sell. We're lucky enough to have a table at home and I'm perfectly happy playing with it here. Over the weekend I got an Action cue to bring to the pool hall. It plays hard but I like it for now. Maybe next year I'll spend a few hundred dollars on a Viking or a Meucci. This year we blew our budget on the table and a McDermott for my hubby.
Nuff said.

LAMBROS

Why: I went Bankrupt and had to liquidate a modest (by some
collectors here standards) 6 figure cue collection consisting of
some whos-who of cues, and this Lambros I have now is a very
hard to obtain (financially) cue for me.

Why Lambros over the others ? THE HIT.

Lambros was the first cuemaker I thought of. There are rarely any of these for sale. There has been 4-5 for sale in the past couple of months. Before that I hadn't seen more than one or two occasionally for years.
 
Ive had offers on my southwest, but couldn't sell it because it was given to me. I'll have that thing the rest of my life.

Dan Staut, Its not a high end cue, I owned and sold some of everything, but everywhere I go I get offers for it..., never going to let it go!
 
randy mobley.......NUFF SAID.....his cues are not only in limited supply but it is the best playing cue i have ever owned....but hit is subjective,however for me it is the king kong nuts
 
i think you have to be more specific where you are coming from
if i own a collector quality rambow/gus/balabushka etc most wouldnt sell unless they really had to for economic reasons
so that question goes to the collectors
ie which cue do you think will appreciate more in time??

for the players the question is different
which of your cues plays the best for you
the NAME of the maker doesnt matter
for the player its how it plays
thats the one they wouldnt sell

Off the top of my head..Gus Szamboti, Joel Hercek, Ed Prewitt, Bill Schick, Tim Scruggs, David Kersenbrock, Kerry Zeiler, and Joey Bautista. I've never heard a bad review about these cuemakers in terms of the performance of their cues. All of these cues strike through the ball really well. They sell really fast or are really expensive when they do come up. But it is all preference. I've hit with every one of these cuemaker's cues (except Gus) and I've only liked three. They hit well but I like a soften feel (I use an ob-1) that strikes through the ball instead of a firm/crisp hit. But watch out for cuemakers with top reputation that have made plain janes or sneaky's. They come out once in a while and most of them are monsters. If I ever find a Hercek sneaky with ivory joint, I might have to buy it right away.
 
I don't know anything about those high dollar cues ya'll a talking about. All I know is that I have wanted a Palmer Custom Cue since I was 21 years old when I saw the first one in 1965. Now that I am old and gray and drawing a monthly check from Uncle Sam and still working and can afford one. I got lucky and won one on and Auction. A third catalog # 17. The one Chris showes on is Website with the dots in the collors. It shoots great and I will not part with it for anything.

I have played with a lot of cue in my lifetime and I must say Murray Tucker has nailed my player cue. It feels almost weightless. He somehow made a cue based on my suggestions of what my likes and dislikes are. With that said, this cue will never be for sale at any price.

He also made me another Hoppe cue that I will not sell for several reasons. One is that is plays so well. The other is that it is truly a beautiful cue.

Next up is my Dennis Searing cue. It was not made for me, however it is truly a special cue. I purchased from the original owner and he played with it. As opposed to most people that get a Searing and hide it away in a case. Well, he shipped the cue to Dennis for me to get a refinish, joint protectors and an elephant ear wrap. HOLY $HIT does he do phenomenal work. It looked brand new. He treated me as if I was the original owner by calling me to see if I enjoyed the cue several times after delivery.

Last but not not least is my John Showman cue. The inlays are my favorite of all time. It is a pointed propeller. Very unique and original twist on a very classic inlay. And it plays incredible...


I would have to say none would be for sale. I sold a few that I wished I didn't along the way. But as the saying goes - ya can't keep them all. :rolleyes:
 
My 29 year old Schon SP #15 is not for sale. The McDermott Elvis cue that my mother got for me as a Christmas gift is not for sale. My prinicipal playing cue, my Phillipi is not for sale. My no. 2 player, my Ivory jointed Coker is not for sale. And my Palmer Custom hustler cue with over 30 pro player autographs is not for sale. That cue has alot of time spent collecting the autographs, and too many of the autographs are BCA hall of fame players.

The other cues in my collection are possibly for sale at any given time, but I am not directly promoting them sale for the present time.
 
Every Cue in my Closet, or Case is For Sale, None are Magic, I am the Magic on good days when I play like a house on fire be it with my Zinzola, Madden, Buss, Barnheart, Carter, etc. When I play for DOO DOO it is because I am in the DUMPS, not becase of my CUE.

I have plenty of cues, some I like better than others. The only one I won't sell right now is my Meucci Casino 3.. I just love that cue. But considering I'm in the business to sell cues..lol, :)
 
I have owned a couple of cues, my Showman will never get sold, if I can help it. It looks and plays perfect for me.:thumbup:
