what did you really think about meucci cues?

Junk. I've owned dozens and dozens of cues, and far and away, the worst quality I've seen is in Meuccis. Poorly varnished, poorly sanded, whippy fishing pole shafts, rings you can feel, seams you can feel, inlays that pop out, clear coat that breaks off, etc. Most of these were from the 80s and 90s. Absolute junk.

I have a 95-10 I got for my 12th birthday and still have it and play with it to this day. People on this forum are always knocking Meucci's, and maybe the shaft is kind of whippy but I've never had a problem at all. Maybe mine is older before they started to get really crappy. Mine was before the red dot shaft so I don't know.

This is what were talking about here. I don't think anyone is saying that you can't ever win with a meucci. We're saying there quality is shit.

Yup. There's always somebody out there who can take you to school with a warped house cue.

But why spend a few hundred bucks on a cue that's so poorly made? I'm still amazed at the people I know who think "Moochis" are the best cues you can buy. Most don't even know the custom cue market even exists. But I'd take a Viking or McDermott over ANY Meucci every time.

As for "so and so" used to win with one. Big deal. A lot of top pros have won a LOT of money with fiberglass Cue-Tecs too. I'd play with a bamboo fishing pole if someone paid me enough! Do you honestly believe that Earl ALWAYS used a Cue-Tec shaft on his Cue-Tec butt? I know the answer.

Unless they are the old steel jointed ones.

They make for a great fire.

Shaft...Actually, you're right on with your thinking (so, even as a new poster, you're correct in your assumptions). The butt plays little role, in the long run...it's all about the joint, shaft, and tip. I'd like to see that blind test too...because I'd bet against almost anyone being able to "name that cue", just from feeling it. :D

i think i could

but then there's always the question of how do you hit balls with a blind fold on

so what does everyone do with the Meuccis they bought and hate? one guy here said he never touches his gambler 2, so what does everyone do with them? I dont see people playing with them, I dont see them for sale, where do they go? lol. I haven't hit a Meucci for 15 years, so who has a newer one they hate that they want to get rid of? I want to try one, but after reading all this, Im not throwing my 300 on a bet with bad odds. also, I have not heard one good word about the black dot shaft. Is this because its getting compared to a predator, ob, etc.. LD shaft, or is it compared to a standard one-piece maple shaft? If I want a little less deflection, but not like a predator, would this be an in-between type shaft, sort of like a less-deflection, instead of a low deflection?

I still have my 233 series; and even take it out to shoot every now and then. It was made early 90's; 93 maybe. It was and still is a very good stick.

There are a few members of my local league that shoot with newer Moochies with the Black Dot shafts. None of them have ever had a problem. I didnt bring my stick one night and ended up using one with the Black Dot shaft. It did have less deflection and I could draw the nuts off a ball with that stick. Now, maybe, just maybe, they pulled the luck of the draw (sorry for the pun) and got one of the better "pieces of junk". I still say they are a decent mid range production cue for beginners.

If you really want to try one out, check out Ebay. Plenty of Originals sell on there for $150 - $250. That is less or about the same you would pay for a newer one (if not second hand). If you dont like it, put it back on Ebay and sell it for what you paid. Hell, the same cue I have sold not to long ago for $115 and it was in way better condition than mine. The 233 series are cheap when you find them.

EDIT: spelling

Some of the older cues play very well. Almost every old school player has owned an "original." I sold some wholesale in college. Man, some of them I'd like to have back. At one time, I had four unopened Castle Walls cues in the plastic with two shafts. Oh well. I should've bought some land on Reems Creek. It's now Reems Creek Golf Course.

Well, I heard from my friend from my home country (Indonesia) that the quality of Meucci cue become poorer.
However, i like the Meucci cue (the MTC-5 series). I tried a new Meucci cue (Meucci Bandito) and I am not really like the balance. I called Meucci factory and they told me that Meucci changed their balance point (I do not remember exactly, but I remembered the balance point now is going more to the bumper).
Even I did not like the new meucci cue, I think that the quality of the shaft is still the same (the old MTC-5 with red dot and the new Meucci bandito with red dot); that is why I use a Meucci red dot shaft with my P2 butt now...

Just my opinion..
