What do I clean my Cue with

I just bought a new cue and have turned the Linen wrap chalk blue. I didn't think nothing about it until I had shot for 4 hours. The wrap is white with brown specks. If anyone knows what to use to clean it a little please let me know. Also what is a cheap way to keep the shaft clean without removing material?

Magic eraser...alcohol...parchment paper...search function.
In all seriousness every other thread on this site has instructions or some opinion on shaft maintenance.

To keep the shaft clean?

Stop smearing chalk all over it. Sounds too simple, but seriously watch what you are doing. A little prevention goes a long way.

Look at your hands. If you have chalk all over them then I would suggest you are over-doing it.

Look at the rails or floor where you were standing when you chalked. If you can see chalk there, then you are over-doing it.

I also take a moment to wipe off my hands frequently. Carry a towel in your case. Wash it occasionally. Wipe off your cue when you get a moment too. It's not going to clean itself.

Same with the wrap.

When you are done shooting wipe the cue off with a very slightly damp cloth or an alcohol wipe.

Well not every pool player operated on a clean table.....
It the cloth on the table is dirty how do you plan on the grit not making to the shaft ?

I stopped playing at Keystone and cushion in Reno because my hands turned jet shinny black after playing on the table for a haft hour......

There's something to be said about a cue that shows its been used for years and years. If you want a safe queen, get one.

Sure. Not much you can do about that, but no reason not to take reasonable care yourself.

My shafts and wraps are quite dark on my playing cues. But I still wipe them off and tend to keep my hands clean. I don't go all out OCD. Just reasonable care.

To clean your wrap of chalk dust I'd try a vacuum with brush attachment first. Anything else might drive the chalk deeper into the linen.

Regarding the shaft, clean the chalk off the tip before putting your cue away. Otherwise your case tubes become a mountain of chalk that constantly rubs into the shaft.

Also don't put your shaft in your case tip end first.

Try this stuff. Germ X.
I know what you're thinking, but one of the guys at the pool hall, I beg your pardon, sports bar and grill, told me about it. He took a couple of napkins, smeared some of this Germ X on his cue shaft and wiped it down. You wouldn't believe all the blue crud that came off.
Another rub down with some dry napkins and he was good to go. Amazing.
Now, here's the good part. When he was finished the shaft was slicker than you-know-what on a gold tooth and would glide through his bridge hand smooth as silk.
Get the one with aloe. :)

Can we get a ruling on whether or not he was asking about cleaning his shaft or his linen wrap? I was led to believe his wrap had turned blue.

This ^. Be careful using anything damp on your wrap. Wrap are installed with school glue, which dissolves quickly when wet. If possible, take your cue to a cue maker or good repair guy & have the wrap cleaned then sealed, so you don't have to stress it anymore.

If you wanna clean your Irish linen wrap how about compressed air if you have access, thats where I would start.

Shafts: denatured alcohol on a paper towel...maybe once a month or so. Daily, use a dry microfiber towel after each session or as needed during play. The oils from your hands is actually good for the wood, a nice patina darkens it, not a bad thing functionally. I NEVER allow my mechanic to clean my shaft when replacing a tip--just the ferule. I'm funny that way.

I know nothing about cleaning linen; would be curious myself.

I put my cues in the case, pin down and tips up. My case is cushioned at the bottom and when the tips are up, the only thing you need to do is wipe the inside of the top of the case if it gets chalk on it. Easily done.

Some people will say the pins will get bent, but I've done it for decades and my pins aren't bent. Also, I don't slam my case around like a lot of people do. I have cues that are older than me and they still are pretty much in original or pristine condition.

Aloha.

It's the dirty tables as my bridge hand is always black blue from the felt. It'll just have to get dirty lol. It looked real nice and clean for a while lol. We don't have them nice tables close by around here. I get to shoot on American Shuffleboard 4x8s with wore out bumpers and old felt.

Why would a dirty table make your linen wrap dirty? I can understand your bridge hand, and anything it touches, getting dirty but that shouldn't affect your wrap. What am I missing?
