What do you do if you catch someone cheating???

I'm playing someone $20/game (8ball). I'm up on him 8 games. I collect after each game. I found it wierd that I miscued 2 times in the same game, so I start watching him closely. I caught him wetting the chalk. I called him out on it. Put my sticks away and refused to pay him for the last game. My question isn't limited to wetting the chalk but any form of cheating.

Smart that you collected after each game, IMHO. Money causes people to do strange things like you mentioned. No CHEATING is not limited to wetting the chalk, it could be messing with your rack, yelling at you as you shoot, talking to you as you shoot, waving something in you line of sight as you shoot, and many other things. But said I said Money causes people to do strange things.

The only thing worse than being cheated is being cheated and not knowing about it. Now that you know about it, use it to your advantage. I would have did killed him with kindness as I continued to steal his wallet. It's a lot harder for someone to punch you when they think you like them. I would have also re-evaluated the situation:

• Do you have friends there?
• Does he have friends there?
• If so, how many on each side and are your friends willing to stand up for you?
• How much do you have to gain by continuing to play?
• How much do you have to lose by continuing to play?
• Where are the exits?
• Does he have any weapons?
• Is he intoxicated?
• Do I have an extra piece of chalk?
• Can I beat him with all center ball shots? (That would kill him!)
• If a fight does break out, can I win?

So, after I busted him, I would have left him with a little needling by confirming him that you knew he was wetting your chalk. That way he knows that you are double smart. Beating him and busting his cheating game too!

Use your own chalk and intimidate him into using the wet chalk.

One way to say it: You seem to like that chalk a lot, as you touch it often even when you're not shooting. Why not show us how good it works for this tough draw shot you're facing now?

I like to turn a guy's cheating back onto him, where it belongs.

I would have.............

I would have just put a chalk in my pocket and beat him out of another $80.00. it sounds like you have the best of it anyway.

Make him pay for his cheating by taking more of his money.

I had this done in a big tourny. The player that did it put a chalk on the table that i thought he was using. I miscued on a very simple draw shot. Whatever he had in that chalk made no chalk stick to it. it was pretty terrible.

He left the chalk there because he realized I knew something was up. I watched his next match but he never got in trouble and didn't need any help.

Gambling you can still get the cash. Tourny, one miscue and your done. Big swing when your running out in a race to 5, 8 ball on the hill and the other guy is on 3. He broke and ran the next rack.

I was not a happy camper.

Asked him to gamble later. got turned down. He knew that I knew.

I would belittle him as loud as possible for everyone to know what kind of person he was. If there's enough people, he won't step a foot back in there again

J Soto,

Since you were playing in my neck of the woods, I'd be very curious who the cheater is so I can steer clear. Also curious where you were playing. You don't have to say if you would rather not.

Thanks,

I'm with the people who would have kept playing until he was broke or quit. I would have grabbed a fresh chalk and just tucked it in my front pocket and let him use his wet one. If nothing else I would have been curious as to what his next move was going to be once the chalk trick wasn't working. Smart to get your money after each game...

I have no tolerance for cheating, and following a serious accident that left me physically unable to defend my self in the manner in which I had become accustomed, I now prepare for the worst, and have a "game ender" within reach at nearly all times when the law allows. (my permit allows me to carry in establishments that serve alcohol as long as I am not consuming any)

if it were in my neck of the woods, I would have seen how much he liked the taste of chalk as it digests.

If it were in completely unfamiliar territory, I would most likely evaluate how much support he has in the room and most likely endeavor to find out the same information.

If it were a friendly game, with no money on the line, or your average fri/sat night out on the town, I would simply quit playing and make sure everyone, owners and patrons alike knew what sort of character we were dealing with, but with money on the line everything changes. Messing with my money is not only messing with me, but all those who depend on me for financial support, ie my wife and children, and as I'm sure many of you parents out there can understand, you DO NOT mess with the comfort or safety of my children.....

D

disclaimer.... this is how I feel about it, however I am a great big pushover, and would most likely take the 20 for the unfinished game, and leave the establishment notifying room owners and players of what had taken place.

I was playing in Lynn. I'm gonna send you my number through a PM. Maybe we can go and play in Peabody. I just saw the post you put on my FaceBook today. I haven't checked it until now.

Just get the cash, who cares if he cheats and looses? It for sure should not be you. I had similar happen but he moved balls when I was not looking and when I went to the head. My brother caught it and said something. I went over to him and said STFU I'll get the cash it doesn't matter. He quit a couple of games later. Jeez if you cheat and still can't win you deserve to loose.

I read a lot of posts about cheating but some of them are akin to "cutting off your nose to spite your face"!

Lynn Lynn the city of sin,
You'll never come out the way you went in!!

You would have to be from the area to appreciate my comment....

The last time

this happened to me, I was playing in a tournament, and the other guy accused me of marking up 2 games instead of 1. I don't cheat period ... never have ever, but an argument ensued, the TD was brought in, and I ended up having to take a pea off the score, and my opponent ended up winning the match when I had already won it before. I was not a happy camper, and have since seen this opponent, and can tell he knew he cheated me that night. What goes around, comes around, sooner or later.

i have a cue that has about a 15 inch knife that unscrews out of the bottom of the butt. perfect for dealing with cheaters.

I'm a fan of saying things like: It must be tough to have such little self-confidence that you resulted in wetting the chalk like this. I'm going to help you out by keeping the money I have won so far and quit now before you run out of spit. BTW, I wouldn't finish your beer if I were you.

Sounds like to me you cost yourself money by quiting,it should of made you mad and then you could of kept drilling his sucker ass until you won all his money!

I'm not a fan of seeing what other levels someone like this will go to for an angle...ie: the last line of my previous post.

Well before I go on I should state that I was playing a stupid game that I don't play at all.

The house rules were last pocket 8ball. last pocket 8 ball is not a problem but he way they play it is very stupid. There is no such thing as ball in hand. You can't kick at a ball if you can hit another cleanly, you have to make every ball cleanly (you cant call a ball in a pocket and it go in by hitting another ball without calling it). You can't shoot any shot off of your opponents balls AT ALL. When you play a safety as long as you can hit your ball your good (nothing has to hit a rail. you can just barely tap the ball. You don't lose if you scratch on the 8 ball (which means if your opponent scratches on the 8 ball and leaves it behind the kitchen your forced to shoot a kick shot even if their pocket is behind the kitchen.

I'm a runout player but my opponent had all the breaks and he broke like we were playing straight pool (which is also legal). Thats another reason I just wanted to quit. I didn't feel like it was real pool.
