You have tournaments?! Consider yourself lucky. And imagine, you are in one of the best action states in the US.

From lord of the rings: "The age of the pool player is over, the age of the league player has begun"

people are tight on money right now its bad even a 5 a game one hole ive been giving up big spots just so i can play, sucks i really hope it turns around soon.

i think if your going to get a decent game anymore you have to leave home and play it on the lemon for a day or two home town action is non existant.

and before this turns into a league bashing thread i think people have got to realize that if leagues were not around we probably wouldnt have a single pool hall around period.

Trent- Going to players to find action today :-)

Perhaps it is you that won't 'match up right'? Is it a possibility?

I know that those who never lose run out of opponents with the quickness, unless they travel about.

I just looked at the FL map...Tallahassee is right next to nothing, isn't it?

Tallahassee is close to Jacksonville, closer than I am east of Orlando. Jacksonville has some action at Park Place. Corey used to play there a long time ago. And if you want action, dont be scared to step out and give someone some weight for small money. It will get the juices flowing !!

If you look too hard for action, it will deliberately stay away from you. However, if you mind your own business shooting at a table tucked away in the far corner of the room - the action will find you.

That's just the way of the universe.

Play it cool, don't act like a used cars salesman, buy a cuetec and do what blackjack suggest and the offers won't stop coming.

When I go to a room its like I have the word sucker tattooed on my head. :D

Action

There's guys in our pool room that have been playing poker for a month and will pay $50 or $100 entry into a poker tournament, but won't play in a $3.00 pool tournament even after playing pool for 40 years! The guy who used to gamble in bad games just for the action now has other options.

^^^^^^ yup thats the way it goes... once a card room opens in a pool hall, there goes all the action to the back room.

Have you tried getting people to play other games as groups, like 4 man chicago with the 1and 5 as partners for a $1 a-way, keno or pill pool?? that might spark some interest back into the game, usually some one bows out after like an hour then you can ask the remainder player(s) for a 9-baal / 1 pocket game?

I feel your pain lol no more tournaments and the ones that come about i have to start in the losers side and the big entry fee ones which are rare i cant play in them cause they make it with no A or master players allowed which im not but cool they think i am.

And i recently lost the only player in town who gambled with me cause they want way to much weight. I barely got a game but had to give up 4 games race to 7 and if they won i lost 50 bucks and if i won i win 20 bucks.

I know some players who like to gamble but only when i have to travel to play in traveling leagues but no time to gamble as when we are done with leagues i have almost three hours on the road to get home.

Boy isn't that the truth? My wife & I are strictly recreational players...offers of action happen all the time. Some can be
pretty obnoxious, refusing to take "we don't play for money"
as an answer.

You could contact Donnie Mills in Clearwater. He is always ready for action.
And I am sure you can find action in Capone's in Spring Hill, Strokers in Palm Harbor, or any of the rooms in Tampa.

Go to the Action thread on these forums and you will get all the action you can handle.

Funny thing, when guys complain about no action, they seem to have a way of never going where the action actually is. Me thinks they are afraid they might find some.
When someone in the poolroom exclaims,

"No one here wants to gamble"! The translation is, "I can't find a sucker to play".
The player making the exclamation is usually the one not "really" looking to gamble.

IMO you are the one that is not gambling.. .if you only want to gamble when you think the match is to your liking, you'll never get a game.

SO what r u saying, you like to gamble when u got the worst of it,maybe you dont know yet,but matching up is 90% of the way of getting the money, thats what people do before they gamble ,who ever matches up better will get the money alot more!

Very often, it is the easiest way to get action, it is called "outrunning the nuts". If you are a good player you can often just give people what they ask for. Many times they just like throwing around those spots because most people always says no.

It is funny, sometimes you say yes and they sill don't want to play. They feel like they win by making a player have to say no to a game, say yes and watch then squirm, they are such cowards they don't know if they are making a good game or not and are still afraid to play..

I rarely ask people for action, but it seems a lot people ask me. Does my stroke, patterns, and position play look that bad?

9 ball I will let you play the ghost or how about I will give you the breaks but I get the rainbow. I might go off for like $5.00 or play one game and you win then i will walk away.

Sorry couldn't resist but that is probably what's happening to you.
