What do you use to break with?

I've tried a few different break cues other people have had with them and not all were proper break cues, some were just cues they used to break with. I also see some people using their playing cues to break with. I also use house cues to break with sometimes and I prefer them even if they are sometimes a little warped because I tend to lean towards a soft tip when I break, but proper break cues come with very hard tips. What tip is on your break cue and why? What tip is good as a break tip but isn't as hard as white diamond or phenolic?

I can already tell you the most popular answer round these parts as far as tips go will probably be the Samsara break tip. Grips like leather but hard like phenolic and most people that try it seem to love it.

I use a Jacoby Edge to break with and whatever their stock tip is, but I don't put a lot of stock in one break cue being much better than the next. If I'm breaking good it doesn't matter what I use, and likewise if I'm off that night.

i broke for years with a viking with a buffalo tip on it. worked great for me. i have had the cue for about 11 years now. still straight as an arrow and no issues with the shaft or ferrule from using it as a break stick.

i still occasionally play with it. i have about a dozen cues i rotate playing with. i now break with an alex brick dymondwood with a white diamond tip. i use it because i play apa and i can jump better with the brick than i can the viking.

I have a viking break cue that came with a phonolic tip. It has a le pro on it now. I always had trouble miscuing with the phenolic tip. It didnt hold chalk and i could only hit dead center or i would miscue.

Yeah! The really hard tips are impossible to chalk

I get all kinds of people that come to my shop at JOB's and ask about a White Diamond to put on their cue to break with. I ask them if it is a jump/break and they say it is just an old playing cue that they want to use as a break cue and want a hard tip.

My answer to them is to just put on a good leather tip and break with it. You get more control with leather. Sure the white Diamond, phenolic and g10 tips are harder but put a LePro on and break 20 or 30 times and it also gets hard but it is easier to scuff and in a pinch you can shoot with it in case something happens to you shooter.

I do recommend the White Diamond and Samsara but only on jump/breaks as they do jump better.

I use a cue for breaking that came with my table. Its probably a cue in the $60-$80 range, but it has worked well for 6 years.

I use a cheap Cuetec with a White Diamond tip or my Players sneaky Pete with a LePro tip. Depends upon how the table is breaking.

Gulyassy Anvil Break/Jump with Samsara tip. Best break cue I've ever owned & I've owned more than a few. Was lucky enough to win Outsville Hammerhead break tip give away & looking forward to see if it can chase the Samsara tip from the line up.

I use a Gilbert jump/break with Samsara tip. Great cue, excellent breaker and good for long jumps. Short jumps I still break out my Jacoby jump cue as its way better on tight jumps.

Same Schon I've used for twenty plus years. Couldn't even tell you what kind of tip is on it now. Been on the end of the shaft for at least five years. Go ahead and tell me I'll make more balls and have better cue ball control with a $500 break cue. I'm waiting!
