I am curious as to what you guys prefer to keep your game sharp? Do you prefer practice, gambling, league play or tournament play?

Playing with my Buddy 1 Hole, as he is a strong "B" Player, and he make me work real hard to be able to best him.

I don't gamble much, but I practice at home and play in lots of tounaments. It seems to work well.

It takes a combination of things. There isn't just one thing to keep you sharp.

All the practice in the world can't match the thrill of 2 hours of competition.
All the competition in the world, can't match the value of 15 minutes of perfect practice!

To each his own.

I said gambling because I do it more then the others. I do feel that when I do practice which is rare I tend to play very good for about 2 weeks so when I am not playing well I do a practice session for about a couple hours. I do like tournaments but do not find myself taking it to seriously though perhaps because it is a cheap weekly tourney and its fun for me.

I hit balls like a madman! For the last few weeks I have been practicing 3 to 5 hours a day here at home. My table is just right.....GC4 clone with 4-3/8 pockets.

I rarely use drills, mostly rack and play out 10ball. When I'm having issues with a shot, I make notes on my chalk board to work on.

I used to think you had to hit tourneys or gamble to get better, but after hearing SVB's story and how he got so good, I installed my table and got to work. It's paying off.

Good stuff Gerry. I certainly need a table, would improve my game a full ball I feel just being able to hit them when I want and have nice quiet practice to focus.

I didnt' see the drinking option or the "I don't keep my game sharp" option, so I chose the one that made most sense from there.

I agree with gerry. Hit a lot of balls in. I like to through all 15 ball on the table randomly and shoot them in rotation. It makes for some creative shots and sharpens cue ball control.

Gambling for me!!! with a little practice to help get the eyes dialed in...

Man, I wanted to see who voted for what on here...see who the talkers and the players are..

Limited time

:frown:I don't get in the table time I would like these days.

I try to get to league night early so I can practice a little.

In this order- (1)I set cb in center of table and roll cb 3 rails back to starting point as a speed guage(me and the table).

2) spread all 15 balls loosely in center of table-and shoot in in any order without going to a rail. (to help w/close shape/pattern play-I need to be close-I can't see sh#t.

3) cb on the spot/ob center table- shoot to each corner/send cb 3 rails back to opposite corner beneath me.(to let stroke out a bit).

4) shoot straight in stop shots from near the corner to far opposite corner starting about 2 diamonds away and work toward far pocket.

Then I'm as ready as I'm going to get-lets me know how bad an evening it's going to be-but I'm going to play anyway.

I have several degrees of OK-but no versions of SHARP

Practice for sure. Not only does it keep my potting eye in, but my confidence strong as well. That and it allows me to work on nagging issues, therefore I'm always improving.

I prefer competition of any kind to practice. Gets my juices flowing and my level of play goes up.
