What else do you do aside from pool?

I play drums, got back in a local band a couple years ago after a 25 year layoff (job, family)...I'm calling it my mid life crisis. Certainly cheaper that a sports car, motorcycle or affair :p

I'm an amateur radio operator, or used to be. N1VLQ

Bunch of other various interests over the years, but between work, pool and drums I dont have much time for any other stuff

Do lots of stuff

for the past 25 years i'v worked 50 + hours a week in a machine shop.
Aside from that my wife & i have 30 miniature horses + a couple regular sized horses.
We raise chickens, guinea fowl & peafowl.
Have numerous cats & dogs.
In the past we have raised ostrich, deer, buffalo & pot bellied pigs.
I have a concession trailer & a game that i run in the summertime.
I have a small collection of antique billiard items & three antique 9 foot tables that are not set up at this time.
I collect antique rope making equipment & do demonstrations with it every chance i get.

And i am a mid to high -c- player because in my spare time i practice pool.

Gotta love it,

slim

Although I've been playing in leagues & tournaments only about 3 years, I've been playing pool with friends, family, and dates since my father first took me to a poolroom at 4 yrs old (I'm 62) so I'm fairly new as a regular player.
I've been a horseplayer since I looked old enough to sneak into a track underage. I love the track my whole life and have season seats in the Saratoga clubhouse.
I have two Harleys and used to ride a lot but now they're just basically gathering dust in the garage. I actually bought a bicycle and ride that now regularly.
As far as work is concerned I retired as a sergeant in the NYPD 21 years, mostly in the worst ghetto areas of Brooklyn and now I'm a letter carrier with the USPS.
As far as pool I'm in the MegaBucks League and Raxx straight pool 14.1 league. I was in APA but the division disbanded. When I have Tuesdays off and can sleep late I play in Raxx Monday night 9 Ball Tournament.

I work 12-13 hour days M-F, and usually 2 Saturdays a month, and one Sunday.

Other than that I ride as much as I can:
2002 Road King
1987 Softail rat chopper
1982 XS650
1978 TR&RV Triumph chopper
1975 CB500T chopper (currently just a roller)
Mostly I ride with the organization I belong to.

Used to be into high end audio. Years ago. Just not into it anymore.
Used to mountain bike. Not into it anymore.
Was a certified diver. Not into it anymore.

I love Bacardi, and Zacapa when I can get it.

I'm trying all of the above...j.k.

Yeah, I play the drums and guitar... mostly guitar now. Found a bassist and have been working with him to add bass lines to some of my songs and we've got a drummer friend of his lined to play with us...I also got a sports car though...

That's quite the collection. The problem becomes choosing which one to ride. Diving sounds like fun, but the thing I'm holding out for is getting a helicopter pilot license. It's expensive, but I could swing it.. the problem is all the hours going to, being at, and leaving from an airfield.

I like Pina Coladas, and walking in the rain.

I have a couple of cue lathes but not so busy these days. I am just as content to be tying my own Fly Fishing Flies in the shop as anything else. I have my faithful customers in the cue World that I look after but haven't been soliciting any new business as of late.

You think that collecting cues can be expensive, try Fly Tying. One Fly can be demolished by a Toothy Fish in one bite, so have to tie lots of the same.

In the process of thinning the Herd a bit shortly as we lost our last Pool Hall a couple of years ago, and Pool at a Bar just isn't the same as renting a table for a few hours. I don't see our local situation changing within my lifetime so don't need as many cues as I thought that I once needed.

Like a half decent cigar myself on occasion, with a snifter of Brandy. I usually buy the Philippine cigars and the Nicaraguan Quantums. The Cubans that I can afford are no better than the ones that I have acquired a taste for.

Let my FAC lag a few years ago so in the process of getting a new Pal and a Restricted Pal. Don't know if I will ever buy a hand gun but can if I take the notion. Just figured I would get back into hunting a bit. Feral Hogs are starting to proliferate the Prairies so that will be fun.

Have a camper van and spend a couple of weeks in Northern Saskatchewan fishing from the boat or Fly Fishing for Trout. With the van, I can go anywhere and pull over in the bush and camp out for the evening. Full bathroom, stove with oven, 2 burners, 40 gallons of water and a 20 lb propane tank.

Back and leg are FKed due to hitting a drunk driver on the highway a few years ago, so my 2 Harleys tend to sit lonely and waiting in the garage.

Oh, and I prefer the taste of beer over anything else.

50+ hours a week I work in my wood shop as a red seal cabinetmaker. Build all sorts of custom furniture but mainly custom kitchen and bath. When I'm not working or hanging out with my little ones... I really wish there were more hours in the day and had more energy at night to get out and play more pool, after all these years playing I still have to itch to play every single day of the week.

Hockey, Golf and single malt scotch!
I also enjoy Ontario craft beer.

These days pool is definitely my main passion. But I also play golf in the summer, though it definitely took a back seat to pool last season.

Besides that I'm into nice watches, knives, and pens...though much less so than I used to be. Actually scaled back on all that to very pedestrian levels though I still appreciate the nice stuff from a distance.

I also work in the bicycle industry so I do ride a little and hope to up that to a lot this year to get back in shape. I think it'll help my pool game if I can get fit again.

That's about it. I guess I also enjoy good food, good wine, and good whiskey. But who doesn't?

I'm playing golf again and getting hooked on it. It's as addictive as pool, if not more so.
I love golf as well and find it quite addicting.Unfortunately,I don't have the natural ability in golf that I do have in pool and billiards. After almost 20 years of trying to figure out the golf swing,I am still a 15 handicap...:(

Have you had success with your swing? If so,what do you find is the key?

I've done nothing for the last 14 years. My jobs were:

paperboy 12 yo
grass cutting biz at 11 YO
snow removal 11 YO
Work on ice truck 12 yo
coal truck 12 yo
fuel oil truck 12 yo
Auto mechanic 17 yo on and off 30 years
Machinist
Screw machine set-up man
3 bay garage with gas
used car lot
Nurse 12 years. racing Greyhound business 13 years

Other than that, I've led a very sheltered life. Johnnyt

I have a buddy going after his helo license. He's already got his fixed wing license. No way I am going for it. Too many hours as you say. Plus, physicians notoriously have the highest insurance rates of all private pilots. Apparently we crash a lot. LOL!

.

I enjoy playing Backgammon and Stratego (a blind chess of sorts)

Sports. Hip hop.

Pool players probably come from all walk of life I'm guessing. When someone says they're a huge football fan, it gives you an impression about them. If someone says they're really into heavy metal, another impression.

Aside from playing pool I enjoy the following.

  • Cheering on the Florida Gators!
  • Bowling
  • Cooking/BBQ/Smoking Meats
  • Writing music/songs
  • Playing piano/keyboards in a band
  • Teaching beginning and intermediate players the fundamentals of pool
  • Car shows
  • Photography (Landscapes and Architecture, in particular)
  • Cue collecting
  • Swimming
  • Powerlifting
  • Building mathematical/statistical models
  • Captain of Crush Grippers (working on closing #3 at the moment)
