1. Ricky Van Um (strong nineballer from the McDermott tourny days)

2. Norm Wines (great bar box player)

3. Johnny Morrow (Won the Houstan open one year I believe)

4. Sander Tot (Made the mistake backing Jack Hynes giving him the 7ball)

5. Adam Wheeler (He finished 50 some games ahead getting weight playing Steve Cook one pocket one weekend and Steve never quit till he was broke)

6. Don Steele (great player from Pittsburgh)

7. Toby Flaherty (Underated one pocket player)

8. Steve Smith (Roadie who plays all games well)

9. Jack Hynes (Best shotmaker I have ever seen period. Does he still play like he did ten years ago? Those who do not know how well he played he robbed the following players even while I was staking him {Dennis Hatch played two ahead sets for a dime a piece Jack beat him in 3 hrs, Nick Varner played a race to 15 for 500 Nick did not get past five then Jack p$ssed him off, Shannon Daulton played him on the bar box and Jack won two of three 10 ahead sets for 2k, Danny Medina played him 15 ahead for 3k in Denver the set was over in 4 hrs})

10. Cole Dickson (I took Dennis Hatch out west about 12 years ago and Cole played one pocket with Dennis)

I think Hungarian-born Sandor Tot lives in Italy and doesn't go to many international tournaments anymore. One heck of a player still though....

I believe Sandor Tot played in the IPT qualifier in Massachussetts last weekend.

do you mean "the real" don steele?
There is a Don Steele from PA that plays in the Planet-Pool events. Very nice guy and a solid player. Saw him get the 7 from Amar K./ $200 a set and did not prevail...but Amar can play a little:eek:

Cole came out and played in the recent Jay Swanson memorial at Hollywood Billiards a little over a month ago. He looked like he was playing pretty good, but not like the old days. I don't think he's very old - maybe 50, looked pretty fit. I saw him playing on the road here in the 1970's - good player.

He played Angel Paglia and lost. I understand he is in the construction business.

I saw Norm in Columbus 2 years ago, still plays pretty good on the small tables.

Don Steele and is still around like someone said playing on the Planet pool tour. I used to enjoy sweating matches with him and his wife at the Akron Opens at Starchers in the mid 80s and 90s.

Jack Hynes, who cares? Last time I saw him he had two black eyes no shoes and was trying to hustle up a 5 dollar game. So if he's still around it must be by devine intervention.

Starchers!....I was there back about 93'? on business......and actually ran into Earl...literally. I just got done hitting balls, and was walking up to the counter, and we bumped into eachother by acident. I was like, sorry man, and he said, no problem, how's the tables playing?.....and I stuttered out something like duhhh...ummmm pretty good.....cause I just realized who he was:D

Adam lives in Orlando and plays out of the “old” Pro Billiards (recently rename under new ownership). The next time I see him I’ll have to ask about the Steve Cook match, never knew that.

Last I heard, Jack Hynes was getting barred from all kinds of tournaments and tours. He is somewhat brash and abrasive, but we have all run into that kind of player, but plays very good. He and Tony Fargo battled one year at the big Thanksgiving tournament here at Shooters, and Tony won, but it was a darn good match. Jack ended up getting barred from the tournament because of his mouth and actions.

There was also a feature in Inside Pool not too long ago with Adam. I don't remember what month it was, but it was the issue about last year's Masters in Chesapeake (won by Bustamante).

Johnny "Ringo" Morrow passed away close to or a little over 2 years ago.

Ricky Van Uum....fell off the wagon after 11 years of clean/sober life. Sold all his possessions & has traveled from state to state getting high. Last time I saw him was Tunica MS about 2 years ago. He looked terrible. Haven't heard or seen of him since. I check the obituaries every day wondering when I will see his name. At one time and for a period of many years, he & I were close friends but he chose drugs over life/pool/friendship. A great 9 baller but even better at one pocket. Fearless & innovative & tons of heart & always the true gentleman when he gambled. He had Jack Cooney shaking his head time & time again as they played even when Jack would come to town. Ricky usually got the cash or at worst they broke even.

The last time I saw Jack Hines was when Ricky beat him & Jack had nice kind words of telling Ricky to "suck his d***" afterwards.

Huckster...just trying to put a face with a name. The only time I saw Gary Spaeth play was when he came to St Louis for a 1-pocket tournament. His stakehorse at the time was gentleman about the same age as him, kinda tall with a beard. Is that you? Gary won the tournament but had his hands full in the finals with a local 1-pocket specialist at the time. Gary finally turned each game into a bank game moving all the balls up table & then just picked off balls, one at a time.

Scott, SOMEWHAT???? I think it would be safe to say that on his good days, he makes Earl look like the Flying Nun!

Last I saw Jack he was still b!#$hing about a match he lost 6 or 7 years ago. I don't know where he is now, but he occassionally breezes through Fort Smith, AR.

Later,
Bob

He did and I'm sure we will be seeing Sander as a regular on the IPT at some point in time. He also plays the Eurotour regularly and won back to back events not too long ago, an incredible feat considering the talent level on the Eurotour and the 256 player fields. Anyone who hasn't heard of Sander Tot lately doesn't follow pool very closely.

Norm Wines, aka Porky, can be found at the Billiard Cafe in Battle Creek Michigan. He still plays in local events, and will get in the box with road players when they come through. Still very good on a bar box and proficient on a big table.

Any old pics of these guys?
