What happened to Robb Saez?

I'm no eye expert, but this sounds like something that COULD potentially adversely impact his game. Unless of could his eye heals perfectly and he can still see well enough to keep his same speed. I guess we'll see...no pun intended.

I agree with the other posters, drinking and gambling don't mix very well. Problems are bound to happen.

I was not there either

I was not there, either. But from what I have gathered, Robb had a few too many to drink, got a little hostile while gambling with Shane, and Shane quit. If this is actually how it went down, I don't blame Shane for quitting, winner or not! If my opponent gets mouthy and hostile with me, I'll tell them ONCE, I don't put up with that and I'll quit if I'm up or down, and we'll never play again!
So, if Shane had taken all the crap from Robb he could stand, I don't blame him for quitting. It also sounds like Robb decided to take it a step further after that which landed him in the hospital.
Also, I would have to agree with whomever it was that posted earlier about Shane being allowed to finish the tournament. If he had been in the wrong, chances are he would not have been allowed back on the premises.
Hopefully they both learned a lesson from this...

Crazy Erica posted on Facebook that Robb is going to be ok.

A tournament isn't just when matches are going on.
The tournament had been finished for the night for hours don't think anybody that had anything to do with the event was even in the building.

Just a very a unfortunate situation fueled by competitive egos, alcohol and no sleep.

Just thankful that Robb is ok and the doctors said he is going to make full recovery.

The only part of the story that bothers me is no one pulled him off Robb after that many hits to the face. It's not cool just sitting around watching people fight or watching a guy get whooped real bad and not breaking it up. I understand it's not their business but have a little humanity.

Also how can you even think about kicking a guy out of a tournament unless he is banned from the pool room? Throwing him out would by far have been the WRONG move. The only thing that didn't happen that should have happened is the fight shouldn't have lasted that long. Let them get it off their chest but break it up.

if you fight in a pool hall then you should be kicked out. i dont care who you are. an average pool player would have been kicked and banned.

Any event I run, someone in our group stays til everyone leaves. We brought the players in, we have a responsibility to the owner that they all behave accordingly within reason while we are there.

That being said, I wish I had a location that served until 6 AM (or 24 hours). I hold a Houston tourney but alcohol is done at 2:30 there I think.

Deleted remarks, with apologies to Robb Saez and Shane Winter.

I agree with this line of thinking, 100 percent.

Who threw the first punch? Does anybody know if law enforcement was called, or did everybody just disband and go their own separate way?

Even though they stop serving alcohol at a certain time, it depends on the bartender and how strict they adhere to the rules. Some people go outside in the car and drink--and do other things--after last call.

I wasn't there, only thing I basically heard is there were still in the neighborhood of 30 or so people still in the pool room when it went down which is more than enough to stop it. Problem is now people have camera phones and they'd rather video it then intervene. A couple days later now you can bet neither of them wish it happened.

So even if an establishment didn't serve alcohol, some people might take it upon themselves to get into a state where they are more apt to get into trouble anyways.

Robb is my boy, but he's a belligerent drunk and starts fights often while drinking. They wrestled and shane let him go and went to leave, but Robb went after him with pool cue. That's when it got ugly. Sometimes when people get mad enough to fight they're not really thinking about the # of times they should hit you. Very unfortunate situation really. Robb definitely should not drink alcohol of any kind.

1.Drinking is an optional activity.
2.Acting like an azz when you're drunk is an optional activity.
3. Mouthing off to the wrong person is optional.

Getting tossed a beating for the above listed items not always optional

If he went after him with a pool cue then I have no sympathy at all for Robb and I hope the guy who had to beat his ass doesn't have any consequences from this.

BigTruck Ray posted on Facebook - "this pool room has excellent security cams. They were able to make a decision on that coupled with eye witness accounts. If Shane was still allowed in, figure it out"

Some at the venue stated it was instigated by Shane. Then you have others saying it was instigated by Robb. A few players who saw the beating say that Shane's beating did not warrant whatever Robb did. Of course, we get into the three sides of the story. Majority of us on this thread weren't there and were not eyewitnesses to the incident.

I went to a Carolinas Open at a closed bar, Fast Eddie's in Goldsboro, NC. There were two kids from Florida there who were drunk as skunks. They were flashing a lot of cash and wanting to gamble. They were young, loud, and probably weighed about 110 pounds wet.

They went up to Gene Hooker, one of the owners of Fast Eddie's, and started barking at him. Whatever they said--I didn't hear it--four HUGE men weighing probably 250 to 300 pounds carried these two Florida kids outside and beat the crap out of them, stomping them, hitting them in their face, kicking them in their back. It seemed as if it was 15 minutes of beating. It was horrible to see. Four great big guys beating these two drunk kids up. I'm sure they suffered lifetime injuries from this beating.

My point in sharing the story is that nobody deserves to have physical harm come to them in this manner. When a guy is down, you don't continue to pound their face in over and over and over again until you crack their eye socket and scratch their cornea. I don't give a damn what happened before that time. It's wrong.

The owner of the venue may want to take measures to prevent this from happening again. Places get shut down because of things like this. They can lose their liquor license, et cetera.

I agree with you. But if someone comes at you with a pool cue - you have to defend yourself or you could get seriously hurt. With a drunk that means putting them out of commission as quickly as possible.

I also agree people should have stepped in and stopped it before anyone was seriously injured.

Of course you're right but I think with everyone having a lawyer at the press of a button on their cell and the camera phones, it has stopped a lot of people from get involved. Johnnyt

do not use a weapon first

If someone comes after you with a weapon of any type that can cause you injury,
- your duty is to make them unable to function the fastest way possible. No consideration need be given them at all.
